  2. There was an input from MSC (?) government job creation scheme. A mate had was given! a dumper truck driving job to get him off the unemployment register. YOPs and YTS were also available.
  3. Brilliant. I can now see again! Thanks for the help
  4. Hi, sometime last week the font size on my view of the site reduced in size. I don't think I did anything and can't find a settings button to alter it. I'm on a PC using Google. Any help would be welcome! Regards

  9. Article from Huddersfield Examiner re flooding in Elland. Interesting, and depressing, pictures. Last night local news stated that CRT are responsible for the bridge repairs (rebuild?). That is going to cost! http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/amazing-new-pictures-show-havoc-10685311

  11. Just seen this in the local (Huddersfield) paper. http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/new-cycling-route-between-huddersfield-10058060 Where can you get the signs from?
  12. If it is (Nantwich and Borders) they advertise that they can only take boats up 40 foot.
  13. Just bought a couple of bags of "burning peat" from my local supplier. Made(?) by this firm http://peatheat.co.uk/index.html £5 for a big bag (dosen't work for comparison by weight) Looking at their web site the heat produced vs. price seems to be good. Trying it on my squirrel at home, burns more easily than other peat I have tried. Anybody else tried it? Thinking of taking some down to the boat. Regards Also posted in coal price thread by mistake

  15. Oh for the halcyon days on the HNC! Look on the bright side, the beer down there is too expensive to drink anyway. Best wishes.

  18. I bought the tape from "more-than tape" on Ebay. "DOUBLE SIDED VHB GEL TAPE 12mm x 5mtr STRONG ADHESIVE" As I said in the previous post I only did it last week so I cannot say it has worked, but so far so good. The adhesive bit that is left after peeling off the backing is about 2mm thick and soft so I am hoping it will "fill" any imperfections/holes in the metal. When you think about the stresses involved in the application it should not have too much stress put on it (I hope) The job cost aprox. £25 so (when compared to the price of brass) it's not too big a gamble. Regards
  19. Just done ours (last week)so I don't know if it's going to last. Working fine at the moment though. I put 2mm thick strip onto steel (using it instead of brass) fixing it with double sided "gel" automotive tape Got the plastic from Direct plastics online.co.uk Had to buy a 500mm wide sheet to get the length but it only cost about £12, cuts easy with a sharp stanley knife. Regards
  20. Or, as in the first post a 15mm, full bore, one
  21. [The majority of ball valves when open maintain full flow! I agree if on mains pressure, but.. If you take a quarter turn isolating valve as an example. A 15mm valve has a hole through the ball of about 8mm (guessing). This may or may not cause a problem on a pumped (boat) system. I was just concerned that it may "starve" the pump. Regards
  22. Might be teaching my grandmother here but.... I have had a problem with gate valves that don't quite shut off recently. They allow a dribble of water through which isn't good given the recent weather. Given a normal layout which involves a gate valve adjacent to the cold water tank which isolates the water supply. As "ball valves" and "stop valves" restrict the bore (and as we are talking about pumped systems) I had discounted their use. However I have found some "quarter turn, full flow, ball valves". They do not restrict the flow and are as guaranteed as anything that I know of to "shut off". Cost under a fiver from plumbers merchants for a 15mm, 22 mm also available. They also look as they will fit in the same space as the gate valve so should just need 2 nuts unscrewing and a quick replacement. Don't forget to drain the tank before you try it though!! Regards.
  23. That will be why there has been a noticable increase in helpfull men in white vans and pickups patrolling our area and removing "unwanted rubbish" from gardens. They even work at night! They will also remove unwanted stone from the tops of walls.
