  1. When I bought the Tacho a good number of years ago, I was told it would suit a JP, there is no part number on the box - just marked Lister Tacho 0-1000. I added the part number from my manual. Despite exhaustive attempts, I was never able to source the rest of the drive parts to try it out. Given that your engine is rated at 1200 rpm max (which I doubt you would ever achieve on the cut) what would you estimate the revs to be when you would be red lining the engine? My point being that 1000rpm max would probably suffice for a none loaded narrowboat. I will remove the part number from the ad. PS - there is a number 50/6711 in white paint on the rear housing which I suspect is the MOD part number
  2. We have a Tacho currently for sale on ebay. Item number 281069612894. Ex MOD never been fitted, its rare as rocking horse sh1t and has a 3 figure price tag. Also have a load of other JP stuff for sale (not all on ebay) including a JP3M complete engine with Blackstone box/reduction.
  3. Apparently Matt got fed up with people complaining about the site so he pulled the plug. Shame really - such a mine of information for a young fella - rare these days
  4. Not if you have the right kit. The hardest bit is undoing the conrods from the crank and geting them with pistons on the end up and out of the block. Richard has a steel disc with a hole in the centre and a long piece of 25mm threaded rod with several lock nuts on. The disc is the same daimeter as the inside of the liner. Place under the bottom of the liner along with a pice of flat bar(again with a hole in the centre)which goes across across the top of the cylinder. Two strategically placed small bottle jacks across the top of the block under the flat bar, pops em out like a cork from a wine bottle. Simples !!!!

  6. Stripped her down again to discover oil coming from No1 cylinder. So have fitted brand new ex MOD liners with new seals, new piston rings and used wellseal on the heads. Injectors overhauled and then all re-assemebled which seems to have cured the problem. Therefore we suspect the rings on No1 piston were the culprit.
  7. Thanks Tim will try mopping the oil from the heads but Im erring on taking the exhaust manifold off and seeing if I can see if the problem is localised to one or all cylinders. Whatever happens, I think its de-water and heads off again. Re a similar post do you recommend using heldite to put the head gaskets back on with? Ken
  8. Hi Tim No pistons not touched at all. As far as Im aware no capilliary oil feed to rockers as in JK, since the new oil which we put in is still there. There is about 1/4" of clean oil in the valve side of the heads. Lubrication is just from the greasers. However two or more of the head studs have slight traces of oil on the tops, and I did wonder wether to re-torque the heads to 100 Ft/lb/sq" again. Oil used for last 8 years is Morris XHD30 Ringfree.
  9. Did a top end re build last summer. Heads skimmed(one head swopped due to lack of enough metal to skim)and presssure tested. New valves, guides and springs fitted and all gaskets replaced. head gaskets were new original Lister complete with shims to achieve clearances. Engine now runs as sweet as, however, I am getting oil blowing out through the exhaust stack. Hardly done any hours since re-build. A suggestion was the engine needed to settle in/rebed but doesnt seem to be having any effect. Oil pressure is a constant 18 dropping to 15 when running temperature achieved. The oil in the exhaust [fonhas not been combusted as there is no smoke to speak of. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem might be before I start stripping the heads down again?
  10. I have a mobile number for Paul Aldridge - not sure if its still current though. PM me for the number. Also have an FR3 industrial for sale if anyones interested.

  12. Heard a whisper on the Towpath Telegraph that BW Central Shires are going to sort out the problems with the top gates at Derwent Mouth Lock Shardlow. Lets just hope the breast posts get attended to as well.
  13. The stall was Evelyn Booths Lockside Antiques and the chains at £58 were the repro type which are quite coarse and need filing and linishing. Mine was an original gas mask link type. Will add photos when I gat home. Incidentally our boat was moored over a mile out of Braunston beyond Bridge 88.
  14. Whilst we were asleep last night or sometime during this morning, some light fingered bastard stole my chimney chain (gas mask links), three attached horse brasses and cotton rope. All were attached to the chimney and the boat ring with a brass D shackle. I hope the slimy get who did this crosses my path - ill chop his f*****g hands off.

  16. Chances are it will be too shallow to moor anywher near the bank and you'll have to dredge and that will open up another can of worms.

We used ours a lot on the Aire & Calder Navigation. Was always useful to call the lock keepr at Ferrybridge (when there was a lock keeper there) when joining from Selby and the Rive Aire. Useful to know if there was any commercial traffic in the vicinity, as we'd previously met an empty barge on the bend in Knottingley which resembled a block of flats coming towards us on full chat and almost putting us on the towpath. Also handy to use on the tidal Ouse bewteen Selby and Naburn to alert the lock keeper at Selby to have the lock set when coming downstream from Naburn.
  18. Cranfleet Flood Lock gate replacement begins Monday 8th February river level permitting. Stoppage is scheduled to last for two weeks.
  19. Interestingly enough, I believe Andy Watson the current owner of Oslo is selling her because he's ordered a shell from Dave Harris. We own number 36 from Dave Harris - Canopus which is loosey modelled on a small Northwich, and was fitted out by David Gunby at Brinklow Boat Services.
  20. Dont forget the guys at Brinklow either - Steve Priest & Simon Wain for steel work along Rex Wain, David Gunby and Ken Brenchley for woodwork and fitting out.
  21. Usually offside moorings are privately owned and mooring fees are termed 'end of garden'. You pay the land owner who in turn pays BW. Rarely are they advertised so a sign on land may be the only way you'll find such a mooring. Dont expect residential status with these off side moorings as that factors in a whole load more ballache.
  22. Not sure what the kWatt output of the Morso Badger is (next one up from the Squirrel) - we have an LPG version (no back boiler) in our house. It certainly chucks the heat out.
  23. There is a Stratford Stove currently on ebay which requires a new top. Sorry dont know how to add the link.
  24. Cant get one for love nor money here in the East Mids. Phoned Lidl and they say they have none anywhere near me but will get more in 3 or 6 months time.
