Why not put the grey water into a seperate tank for use as flushing water in the toilet? You could then maybe reduce the size of the water tank to make room for it. Or is it normal pratice to use canal water for flushing?
Looked on Google and found a pic of Sharpness on the Thames Traditional Boat Rally, with this caption:
'1908 built by Abba and Mitchell at Brimscombe port on the Thames and Severn Canal for use as a tunnel tug and icebreaker on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal'
A Narrowboat will not tend to ride with the waves due to its length:width ratio and its comparitively heavy displacement for it's beam. It will tend to sail through waves, which due to the low free board will make swamping an issue. That's why 'Progress' had the front well deck sealed while at sea, to avoid shipping water when 'taking it green'...
Drying is caused by evaporation which is encoraged by heating and movement of dry air to replace that which contains the moisture.
Does hot water not need to become cold water before it freezes?
Taken from the EA website, regarding electric power boats:
Provided that: the sole method of propulsion is an electric motor(s) powered by storage batteries carried on board and that no system of auxiliary power for propulsion, nor internal combustion motor(s) nor charging engine(s) is carried.
I imagine BW would have similar rules.
In my (limited) experience of working through locks, whenever you close the gate it always seems to have re-opened itself by the time you get back to the boat!
Can't you just have a switch that allows the feed from the charger to the batteries OR the feed from the alternator? That way there is no risk of anything getting over charged due to some failure in a system.
Not sure many people would like that sort of 'Big Brother' approach! Specially the sort of people you get living on boats...
Why can't they just have a standard license fee and then issue guidelines for ALL users? I mean you could have a home mooring in London and decide to spend 6 months of the year sitting on the Llangollen - obviously this is no different to a CC'er doing that!
Why can't they just fine people who they find bending the rules, and then take away their license if they persist in causing a problem?
You could cast it in sections I suppose and bolt it together... but don't use cast iron or when you bump into a bridge you'd crack your boat and it'd sink
How about sticking the washing machine outlet into the holding tank? Not sure how much water a typical wash uses. But if it's of environmental concern then isn't it better to just visit the pump out a bit more often?
Well you could, but only if you'd be prepared to move around until you'd found a mooring in the area you wanted to live. Either that or get it craned out and stick it on your driveway for a bit!
