  1. They offer inboard options too: their web site mentions a Beta 16h.p. diesel, with other sizes available.
  2. Sorry, my mistake: the last Springers were outshopped in 1994, making them nearly 30 years old, not nearly 40 as I said earlier.
  3. Is the Trust's aim restoration or simply conservation?
  4. Hmm, perhaps...but the youngest Springers, which were certainly at the budget end of the market, are now almost 40 years old and they're still frequently seen around our waterways. However, a recent second-hand boat probably does represent better value, if the O.P. can find one that's to his liking.
  5. Yes, topics often develop in a direction which takes them some distance away from their starting point. This, as Mr. Mack and others have observed, is consistent with the the ebb and flow of real-life conversations. It would be far from a good idea to lock topics for such reasons. Threads do get locked on here, generally if, as occasionally happens, they degenerate into a playgroundesque brawl, but such a move is always contentious and is one which we generally avoid. I trust that these remarks have remained on topic.
  6. Really? It seems that the person's nme is Martyn Lucas, which looks male. Out of interest I looked on Face Book and found five people of that name. Four were male and the oyjer one appeared to be an M.G. sports car. I suppose that, just as Robyn can be a girl's name, Martyn could too. How about Merlyn? Puffyn? The Blackbyrds wereamale, though.
  7. He was lucky that it didn't turn him into a kit of parts. I'm surpriderd it wa at Wolverton, as for many years that was known as a carriage and wagon works. Perhaps in its early days it dealt with engines as well. Indeed they are called safety valves, such as the Salter type which, like many locomotives, managed to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing. I for my part have never heard of a "PRV", though it sounds as if it ought to be a Japanese hatchback. The PRV 1.8 Turbo is apparently well thought of.
  8. Such incidents are not unknown, and I assume, though I don't know' that they're caused by the supply of water running out. Road andf farm traction engines have something called a "fusible plug" which prevents this from happening (I think it drops out and releases the internal pressure but I'm not sure) but I don't think that railway locos do.
  9. W ell, whoever would guessed it? Not doing a very good job of it, are they? Or "smokebox door", as it is sometimes known. Into the next state, perhaps?
  10. Not his doing. It's an Italian type which runs on spaghetti.
  11. I don't remember that one. But at least you can enjoy reading the "Gasket" one at your leisure.
  12. Yes, this did happen after we received a report from a member. But the rest of the topic is still visible on my screen.

  17. Yes. One particular lengthy rant was reported with alacrity by a member, and was quickly removed.
  18. It was, as I'm sure you realised, written tongue-in-cheek: some shortish dead-end canals, such as the Ashby, are pretty heavily used too.
  19. Why bother about all those narrow winding country lanes which lead only to some village that no one's ever heard of. There must be thousands of them, they're little used and their maintenance must be a drain on the finances of many councils. Shut 'em down, I say, after all, roads are there to connect big towns and cities. Aren't they>
  20. 'OW MOOCH? For that price, it should come with an autotune.
  21. You beat me to it - I was about to say the same thing.

  24. Humour is not yet banned on CWDF. So make hay while the sun shines, sunshine. Aye, fifteen days late, Mrs. Lightning.
