  1. Willow wren is our nearest winding hole. We turn carefully to avoid the concrete walls. Shallow on towpath side . Usually get a smile and a wave.
  2. Most memorable one on river thames hurtling along with another boat. The plan was the sober one on our boat to jump off at the bridge for a car shuffle. Realised keys for the ( company car) were with the owner on the other boat. Quick 10 /4 on the CB radio and the keys were found. It was at this point that the effects of lunchtime drinking took control and an attempt was made to exchange the keys by air despatch between the boats. Somewhere between henley and marlow are the keys for a charcoal grey peugeot 1.9 gti.
  3. Its simple. Moor up. Light your phone. if it comes up 3g light your fire if it comes up 5 g you light your fire in the dark. You will be in lunnun anyway surrounded by boats charging batteries with old engines and burning ‘ substances’ not always on the stove. if it comes up 4g you are in a sensible area. And are a tightfist who hasnt updated their phone. Light your fire if you have 3 g ist principles or not if you are a bit 5 g ish. Those only using wifi are exempt from all regulation, unless it is in the 3 days before or after nov 5 th when the entire uks particulate output is tripled to celebrate an attempt to interfere in the tax affairs of parliamentarians. Its quite plain.

  10. Our stove does this. We burn smokeless or bricketts. There is no leak at the top . Does it in dry weather Only with very low fire. Assume it is related to condensation on outside of single wall flue. very small fire very long flu. Yes I have 3 co detectors Yes l have beaten the living daylights out of the stove pipe at the join with the collar both internaly and externally to check the flue, with a hammer. Done it since first being lit.
  11. On the waterpoint in maida vale $10000 extra. Do not under any circumstances put on matt or roof paints like raddle. Made big mistake of putting on raddle grey on cabin sides this year. Result will be earliest opportunity repaint in spring.
  12. Baby oil the paint work. polish the brasses Paraffin rebuild the engine clean the bilges remove the fenders evict the dog real coffee aroma in the galley coat of downpipe bitumen on the hold Value increase 5000 time 4 hrs.
  13. Broker is agent of seller not buyer. Their job is to smooth out the sale. Sounds like a good job was done. Not the only thing going up in value people have been paying more for lumps of tin than their list price recently, they will catch colds in their desire for the latest .

  15. Well not really if once alternator is excited it starts charging. I made the stupid mistake of replacing the filament bulb on our charging circuit with an led. Spent ages wondering why it then wouldnt charge before the light dawned and the led was thrown out.
  16. Talking of proper engines had a look at a thundering lister last night pumping water out of the goulburn river, into an orchard. Usual nice safe instal 5 gal ( 20 litre) can of diesel gravity feeding to lift pump. No silencer lube oil everywhere. Probably last serviced in 1961 when built and run every day , repairs consist of picking up what falls off and throwing in river.
  17. What has bus engines got to do with canals?
  18. I appreciate its unusual but other than get the thread jammed in a lock, we could do a huge turn and cruise off to Tangent , a popular destination.

  23. One of my first thoughts on viewing a boat is how do i get out of bed area in a fire. Sounds morbid I know but once you have seen what can happen its a real concern, I hd to get a person out of aboat who had put a wardrobe in front of the only doors in the front cabin. The fire was under and round the rear and only exit doors. He was a mess. Cabin door locks need to be internal and lockable from inside only. ( only one external lock on our boat , if you can get in all exits (5) are open). Its worth thought.
