  1. Exactly a tight schedule meaning a tight wallet from some person attempting a fortnights cruising in half the time. Dont forget "The canals are the fastest way of slowing down" If anybody wants speed i suggest the power boats curtesy of Miami Vice please contact Don Johnson & partner. Its similar to trying to use the M25 to get somewhere rather than crawl along on the worlds largest circular car park
  2. Bagged a bargain last night. I bid on a large wall mirror & left it to either be outbid or win..no one else bid & i won for £1-04. Must be worth at least £70. It only just fit in the back of the car when i collected it just now from town & it weighed a ton getting it upstairs. Just worried now how i'm going to fix to our walls as theyre all dry lined plasterboard.
  3. We were parked up at Campbell park in Milton Keynes yesterday afternoon after having shopped for a few hours. It was weird watching boats go by without us being on one. Whilst watching this activity we have to say both Wyvern boats passed the moored boats at a very slow pace whilst a private boat did not slow down at all & caused the line of boats to rock considerably.
  4. Ordered one thankyou, hadnt read my mail from Martin's site.
  5. We also purchased a 2004 top of the range Mondeo last year for £1500 less than i was willing to pay & that was trade price !! Did think about instantly reselling it but didnt want to part with it Sailed through its MOT & we have since put some tyres on it which we were aware it needed.
  6. Take a look at this site i found to compare deals..... http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk/types/mobile-broadband I checked various areas of the country i visit where i would want to use a high speed broadband connection, very few of them support the area where i need it. Please check before buying that you will get the coverage!! Every ISP has to have a fair usage policy. I may take up one of these offers in the next year or two but as reports state "Dont tie yourself in too long as prices tumble". I'm happy at present using my mobile linked to laptop for the odd surfing when away from home, ive never had no coverage whereas some of the above coverage may be patchy.
  7. Hi I can also vouch for Ownerships scheme, very good & pleased with our share in Silkwood.
  8. Have you asked in Calcutt Chandlers office/shop as they may have been handed the keys ??
  9. Ive always believed in treating others how i wish to be treated & going past on tick over. Saying that now im back on land i throttle back in the car a long way before a junction so as to not have to brake & waste fuel..funny how i get people impatiently overtaking when i'm only doing 40mph off the bypass
  10. Back in the marina Friday i was looking at one of the boats that had welded a locking bar across the filler tank. I prefer a grenade booby trapped to go off when people try to nick our fuel
  11. Just returned home ourselves from a lovely week on the Ashby, didnt want to leave it Chatted with a nice couple on "Dreamcatcher" along the route. We ventured up to Coventry basin which was very full & managed to double moor alongside another boat "Miss Kelly" a very nice couple who live aboard. Weather has been fantastic & not the normal boating weather we are used too!!
  12. Sitting here at Limekilns this morning have been pondering over buying a Maplins suitcase Sat kit for a while. We now have a store in Bedford so may well purchase one when we arrive home. Our tv aerial is realy annoying & i was going to buy one of those swordfish aerials but i think theyre approx £30! may as well spend extra on the Maplin kit.
  13. Hi all We are away this Friday from Stockton top for a fortnight. Have been planning a trip down into Coventry basin with maybe an overnight stop to enable a good look round Coventry. Planning on visiting the Motor museum & Cathedral plus some retail therapy Then we thought of going up the Ashby for several days with plenty of stops & a little walking/visiting areas ie the Steam railway & battlefield walks. Returning back on the Coventry we were planning on a trip up as far as Atherstone & winding before the Atherstone flight of locks. A slow return to Stockton again with a few overnight stops along the way. Can anyone give us their favourite areas for stopping, either because of good moorings & or because of reasonable pubs or views to wake up to in the mornings. We are not too bothered about eating in pubs as we have rations onboard in emergency. We often find we moor up in a particular spot then next morning on setting off find a nicer mooring round the corner. Does this happen to many of you ?? This trip is planned as being as lock free as possible as Chris has injured her back. I'm looking at steering & having to do any locks. Not looking forward to Calcutt locks but hope to go through them with another boat if one is there. Hillmorton locks i can handle myself (i hope). Look forward to your views/ideas. PS Chris is going to learn to steer to enable me to do the locking i know when i started i wasnt keen on taking the boat into locks at first!!
  14. Winter likes.. Roaring fire & sitting in shorts as its so warm onboard!! (ive even had to go outside to cool down). Peace & quiet on a lonely stretch of water & seeing the wildlife. Eating a hearty homecooked curry onboard Hoping theres less dogs around. Winter dislikes... Red wine not keeping to correct tempature. (having to resort to spirits instead). Rain/sleet/snow driving horizontal into your face when having to steer & flooded towpaths. (or was that summer last year??). Dark by 3:30pm. Slipping in dog Sh*te in the mud. Summer likes... Will let you know early July when we return from an expected warm fortnight aboard from this Friday. OOps its wimbledon...will it be a washout!! Long evenings with glorious sunsets. Sitting on the towpath supping chilled white wine & iced beers & having a BBQ. (if the grass isnt too high). Summer dislikes.. NOT long enough. Bugs Warm boat when trying to sleep (sounds like winter with the fire on). Too many boaters out racing around as if its a Grand Prix. Warm dog sh*t in the long grass ewww

  16. Did the South Oxford last May during the wettest weather on record Many places we attempted to moor had the towpath either underwater or a mudpatch, never any problem with it being overgrown. I did remember the one day the sun shone, we moored on a lovely area of towpath, set up the chairs, beers in hand then got invaded by very hungry red ants
  17. Hi We are setting off from Stockton & venturing up to the Ashby next Friday, will then drop in on Coventry later in the holiday. We did a trip up part of the Ashby in February but the ice stopped us venturing far. Hoping for better weather for the fortnight.
