  1. Calm down dear and as for the university bit, ok hands up - I did drive through Oxford once, but thats the closest I ever got to a university I was chucked out of school at the age of 14 Tiger. PS. 6 litres or 60 litres of petroleum on a boat is highly dangerous, quantity is not an issue at the point of combustion in a confined space. It'll kill you.
  2. Am I reading this right? This guy was carrying 60 litres of petrol on his boat whoever nicked it probably saved the guys life! I'm staggered Tiger.
  3. Will be ok provided the container it was kept in is full thus avoiding condensation, even if there is moisture within the diesel this will be removed via your fuel filter. Just keep a check on your filters and all should be fine. Should you decide to use it, and its stored in (metal) cans, discard the last drop in the bottom of the can just to be on the safe side, this will avoid any contamination. Plastic can storage of diesel is ok provided it has been kept out of direct sunlight. Tiger.

Why not just find another mooring, save a lot of hassle. Tiger.
  5. We are 5 years away from retirement and have never owned a house, at present we pay just under a grand a month in rent. With people unable to buy houses the rental market will become more popular and rents will increase. We will be living afloat when we do retire, it's unlikely we would be spending £12k a year on moorings, not that we want a permanent mooring anyway. With houses costing upward of £200k (here in the south west), and secondhand boats from around £40k it's plain to see what the cheaper option will be. I feel sorry for people lumbered with mortgages and houses that nobody wants to buy, in particular young people are having an even tougher time getting on the property ladder. For us we've never wanted a mortgage and I'm pleased to say that at this particular time of life, we're happy not to have one. Tiger.
  6. I use '3' without any problems, its 'pay as you go' so nasty surprises at the end of the month as its impossible run over your limit. I pay £10/month (1gb) which covers all my internet useage with loads to spare, the only downside being it wont 'roll over' to the next month and I never use 1gb per month. I have found it just as fast as when I was running on broadband, but a whole lot cheaper Tiger.
  7. I think you need to find yourself a new hobby........ Tiger.
  8. If someone is on your mooring I would go through the following process; 1) Inform the imposters they are on your mooring and ask that they move, give them a hand if you can. 2) If they refuse, cast off their lines, set the scumbags adrift. 3) You can now make fast on your mooring, make sure you are flying the Jolly Roger. Should action no. 2 offend said scumbags, chuck em in the canal. This method saves time on phone calls, emails, letter writting and other ancilliary paperwork, it's also somewhat quicker Tiger.
  9. What am I looking at? All I can see is a blank page! nice shade of blue though Tiger.
  10. Three is great but I wouldn't bother buying off them, use Ebay its cheaper and easier. I paid £49.00 for the whole kit on Ebay. Tiger.
  11. Mr Muscle is excellent for shifting bird crap, let it soak for a couple minutes then wipe it off. Living next to the sea we dont bother to clean it up, it would be a never ending job Tiger
  12. I enjoy seeing anything 'traditional', be it horse drawn gypsy caravans in a museum or a traditionaly decorated narrowboat. However I wouldn't wish to have it on my boat anymore than I would ever have anything painted green on a boat (green considered to be unlucky on a boat if you are superstitious ). There is of course the other aspect of being considered a Pikey and all that goes with that . Tiger.
  13. One careful owner with a liking for animals, ask for Mr Noah
  14. I'm still using black & white , or should I say monochrome, rarely watch tv but my PC monitor is colour so you could say I'm catching up Tiger.
  15. I dont have much hair left, if I SHOUT, will it still work Tiger.

I'm assuming there was no power going into it? sorry if I'm reading this wrongly Tiger.
  18. This is a joke right? I'm 5' 4", maybe I should claim discrimination against newsagents because I cant reach the top shelves Tiger.
  19. Dont forget that you will need to be suitably qualified to take a barge of this size across the channel. There are courses you can attend run by the RYA, you will also need to gain a certain amount of qualifying sea time to finally qualify for your 'Certificate of Competency'. Although not that expensive, it can take a fair amount of time and study but well worth it in the end. I took my 'Masters' in the days before the RYA ran these courses, nowadays the RYA has training centres all over the country. Good luck! Tiger.
  20. And I thought a 'Fire Dog' was similar to an overdone 'Hot Dog' Tiger.
  21. I'm with 3 on 'pay as you go', I top up once a month, this costs £10.00. This is for 1GB, I've never got anywhere near using a GB in a month, the downside being you lose it if you dont use it! The costs are as follows; 1GB of data lets you: Send 650 plain text emails AND surf the web for 30hrs AND download 30 two minute videos AND download 60 music tracks. 3GB of data lets you: Send 2000 plain text emails AND surf the web for 100hrs AND download 100 two minute videos AND download 200 music tracks. 7GB of data lets you: Send 4500 plain text emails AND surf the web for 200hrs AND download 200 two minute videos AND download 400 music tracks 1Gb costs £10, 3Gb costs £15 and 7Gb is £25 The only other cost was the dongle, got that on ebay for £49.00 Tiger.
  22. My brother runs a commercial boat and usually buys 1000 litres at a time, todays price (8th May 08) was 54.98p/litre. For this the fuel is delivered to the boat, or you can have it delivered to your own tank. Heating oil is a bit cheaper though you cannot of course run your engine with it. Here's the link if anyone wants cheaper fuel https://www.boilerjuice.com Tiger.
  23. Is this the 'Fast Response Unit'? Tiger.
