  1. A Malcome Braine is moored below Wooton Rivers, on the K & A, named Brutus
  2. Talk to any mobile home company. It is a common problem for anyone touring France. The regulators and the connectors are different.
  3. I would agree with Tony, go with copper-slip

  5. I have seen some led desk lamps at B & Q which would suit us fine as reading lights. However they are 4.5V DC. Can anyone indicate a simple circuit to adapt the 12 V boat power. Current draw is about 300mA.
  6. Thanks everyone for the suggestions Alan
  7. I need to add two new reading lights, thinking of LEDs but realize that may need stabilised voltage supply. Any suggestions please.

  9. Enjoyed the show, thank you
  10. In which case your leak is on the seal at the camshaft end of the pump. You should look carefully at any potential wear on the shaft. Just replacing the seal without addressing any wear on the shaft will not solve your problems. A worn shaft is an expensive replacement.
  11. I have just finished re-con of a spare Jabsco pump for my BMC 2.2. There is a comprehensive instruction leaflet at http://www.jabsco.com/files/3270_0001_fip_bro_flange.pdf I did not use a puller to remove the impeller, or in fact any special tool. Provided you are careful all you need is patience and your normal tool kit.
  12. Try the Jabsco site http://www.jabscoshop.com/marine/pumps/bro...-cooling-pumps/

    K & A

I suspect the reason is that to use the Wooton Rivers pump to feed the summit the water would have to come from the long pound, and hence via the Caen Hill pump from the Avon valley. The Crofton pump uses water from the Crofton reservoir. So if the Wooton Rivers pump is used then at least half the water is lost to the Kennet valley and the western end of the K & A runs dry.

the following was issued by BW Today Lock 51 Wooton Rivers - Lock 60 Crofton Lock Friday 3 July 2009 until further notice The big pump at Crofton has failed. The canal has had to be closed between Lock 51 Wooton Rivers and Lock 60 Crofton until further notice due to very low water levels in the Summit Pound Enquiries: 01452 318000
  15. Had a similar problem with my BMC 2.2 a few months ago. Checked inlet from seacock, mudbox, impeller etc; and then looked at the connecting pipework. By definition the pump has a vacuum side, where it is pumping from, and a pressure side, where it is pumping too. A check on the vacuum side showed a very slight split, it didn't show when working. Obviously sice the pump could not create a big enough vacuum it could not pump water into the pressure side. Replacement of the pipe and problem gone.
  16. Got a 24V Klaxon type HF8-M- GB1401 manufactured by KLAXON very similar to your photo. Bought some years ago from ex-WD store and in very good condition. If you PM me you are very willing to have gratis.
  17. I do recall that when I purchased 107 from British Steel (as S & L where by then) I discussed the matter with their Accountant who had entries in his plant register of all the boats currently in the fleet. I recall that 107 had been purchased from a third party, I think a coal merchant and it might have been in the 40's or 50's. The plant register is a document listing all the capital assets of the company with details of the price and date purchased. I should have taken the details BUT....
  18. Stern end of 107 fitted with a counter by Black Country Boats. then operating from dry dock in Wolverhanpton at Horseley Fields. I dont know what happened to her thereafter. I am currently cruising so records not to hand apart from last mail from Ivor Chambers of BCN Society which was as follows "Alan, With reference to your E Mail to Graham Whorton about your ex Stewarts and Lloyds Joey boat fleet number 107. I have spent some considerable amount of time going through the BCN registers which we hold, but unfortunately, I have not been able to trace this fleet number. Therefore in my opinion there are two possible reasons for this:- I have located boats with fleet numbers 81 to 90 these were gauged on various dates through out 1948; AS far as I can from the registers no other Stewart and Lloyds were gauged after these, boats were no longer gauged after 1962/63. Therefore possible your boat was never gauged because it was put into service after the finish of gauging of boats or alternatively Stewarts and Lloyds brought your boat second hand off a different carrier, who had it gauged under their own name. I have spoken to different people involved in the ownership of Stewarts and Lloyd’s tugs/boats and old employees of the company, but with no luck turning up a complete fleet list." Will contact when stopped floating!
  19. If you do get anymore information I would be very glad to hear it. I have the bow section of S & L fleet number 107 for thirty years and have been trying to obtain the BCN number for it without sucess. I have contacted the BCN society and the info from them was as above "beyond () there are no records" Alan

    Fenders

Can anyone recommend a fender maker near Bath. I need one re-making, core good. Need one other new.
  22. The cone clutch is a BONDED assembly, so no fear of rivet scoring. Tollerance on cone is tight so a worn cone will cause lack of REVERSE gear. Brake band holds drum whilst reverse engaged. Most likely loss of power in forward is oil problems, have you checked level? Have you changed oild recently?
