  1. Barton Turn Marina is between Alrewas and Shobnal, Though it's a while since we were in that area I don't remember any other offshoots from the mainline around there.
  2. Try Woodworks Boat Fitting, New Ollerton, Newark. 01623 860 553
  3. Discovery Real Time is what you need. I think the Sky Channel Number is 240 & 241. We have have cable and get them on 271 & 272. The programmes were on last night, and I believe are repeated on Saturday.

    Birds

Could they be Sparrowhawks? The male has a grey back and the size sounds about right. Sometimes see them were we live (on the edge of town). They also tend to fly very close to fixed objects (like your roof).
  5. Thanks for all the input on this, I found it interesting. The boat is forty-five feet and not an ex hire boat as Tim suggested, and I take the point that adding to the ballast now is probably not possible as Alan pointed out. Thanks again
  6. What are we trying to achieve when placing ballast in a boat? I realise that it needs to sit lower in the water than the weight of the shell alone will make it, but should the ballast be situated so as to make the boat level? I am asking this as our boat (bought second hand) is noticeably higher at the bow than the stern, even with a full water tank. Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.
  7. Do you work for a living? If so then I am sure that you expect to get paid for whatever you do, and that you take home more money at the end of the week/month than it has cost you in expenses to do this job. This is called profit!
  8. Not that this may be of any help but I believe it was Measham Boats not Mearsham
  9. Being a fellow Villa fan I can only agree with that!
  10. Maybe as a reward you could hope for a victory against Litex Lovech, tomorrow night.

    spiders

I usually catch them and deposit them in a tree/bush. Just have a cap from an aerosol spray can to cover the beast then slide a thin piece of card under to hold it in there! Incidently my Mother used to have a saying;- If you want to live and thrive, let the spider run alive! So squashing is out of the question.

    Red diesel

Quoted from the ybw forum;- The private use of red diesel at rebated rate is still permitted for domestic purposes.(EG. To generate electric (sic) for heat and light aboard craft). Therefore how does one determine the percentage of diesel being used for the generation of electricity (via the alternator) and the percentage being used for the supply of heat (via a calorifier)
  13. Thanks for that, I am sure you will be right about it being an ignition inhibit relay. I had searched the internet for any information on the 33RA and found something that said it was being used for split charging. I therefore thought that was the usual thing for it to be used. My relay (with two others) is on a bracket attached to the engine and the cables immediately enter a wiring loom, so it looks like a standard set-up for this engine (Lister 3Cyl/water cooled). I have had another look at it today and cleaned the connections, but I will get a replacement relay in case it happens again.
  14. Twice during the last week (after a days cruising the previous day) I attempted to start-up in the morning only to find turning the ignition switch produced nothing at all. The first time his happened I tapped the three relays that are on a bracket fixed to the engine - tried again and the engine immediately started. The next day I had the same situation, on this occasion I tapped each relay in turn and tried to start-up after each one was tapped. the engine started after tapping the third relay. On investigation I find that this is a split charge relay (Lucas 33RA). Does this make sense that if this relay sticks whilst charging the domestic batteries it will cut the power from the start battery? On a completely different subject during the last week we passed two moored boats with engines running whilst left in gear, why would you want to do this?
  15. Well said Chris, I agree with You. This solenoid idea seems to me to be over complicating the instalation. It will give at least two extra connections to the pipework + the introduction of electrical connections in the gas locker (potential of sparks).
  16. The previous three cylinder was 27hp and I believe the four was 36hp. They seem to have been uprated to the figures above!
  17. Can anyone advise me what is best for powering a TV and/or a CD/Radio? Is it better to get 12v units or is it more practical to get 240v items and power them from an inverter? I am thinking that in the case of the latter only a small inverter would be needed.
  18. We intend to retile/tile the surround of our solid fuel stove. At present there are tiles under the stove and on one adjacent wall. The other wall is wood panelled. The previous owner has not deemed tiles to be necessary on one side though when we had the stove lit today we have noticed that both tiled and untiled walls get quite hot! My question is should any tiled areas next to a solid fuel stove have any heat insulation behind them? We intend to cover the wooden panel with tiles as well as the area already tiled. Is it OK to tile straight on to the wooden panel?

    Padlocaks

Your link shows the Squire HS1 padlock which is not one of the 'Old English' range, the most expensive in this range is £12-10p Whilst the HS1 Defiant retails at £59-61! ChrisW gives good advice by recommending a stainless steel closed-shackle type padlock. There are a few of these on the market that are 'key to lock' (which tend to be stronger than snap-shut padlocks). Speak to a locksmith, You may be able to do as I did and have a number of locks made to operate on the same key! Give that floating key ring a chance! Best Regards, Rojo
