  2. We are at Blackthorne Lake Marina, Ringstead. No facilities to speak of, but a nice bunch of people all the same. Pop in if you need to moor up over night!!
  3. I promise I will do my best with the horseflys, wasps and even have a go at the weather. As my subjects will be psychology and sociology, I will probably just start by 'having a little chat about it' first. Just really excited about going back into education at the grand age of 48, worried about being the eldest one there - but what the heck!!! I think it will fit in really well with my boating lifestyle, plenty of peace and quite to study and I don't really fit in with partying all hours - the arthritus plays up and the new hip takes a while to get going. Hubs says that my multi-coloured kaftans, silly hats and odd earings will deffinately look the part, so I have my student wardrobe sorted already!!!! Just got to concentrate on the dreadlocks and ring in the nose!!
  4. Its a games platform for play the Wii, cause theres no blooming room inside!
  5. Thats terrible - I hope little kits OK. May I suggest you get her chipped and then put a disc on her collar stating that she has an intact identity chip. One of my neighbours found a little terrier while out cruising, but on returning to the marina - checked with the local vets and found that it had been chipped, pretty invaluble when returning dog to the proper owners, but off course depends on the honesty of finder. Haven't got a cat, but both our dogs are chipped. It does give some peace of mind.
  6. I am so excited so I want to tell everyone!! I have just received my unconditional offer from Northampton UNI to study for a joint honors in Psychology/sociology. Off course I will be accepting immediately, because I just can't wait to be hard up and live off pasta and baked beans, Hubs (bless his heart) will off course be supporting me during this time and when I get my degree - I'm going the be RICH, RICH, RICH and then I am going to TAKE OVER THE WORLD he he!!! - ( whoops, just got a bit over excited). Not bad for an old lady eh!!
  7. I am almost sure its for a 4 seater patio table, gazebo and gas BBQ!!

  10. Agree with the weed problem! if you get as far as Ringstead, pop in at Blackthorne Lake. I'm sure we can accommodate an overnight - a little basic, but good and friendly.
  11. There are people like this wherever and some of them don't even dress up!!!! Under maritime law the 'Master "steerer in this case" is in charge of safety of the vessel. No action should be taken without they giving the order first. If there is a lockeeper, They are in charge and safety falls to them and you follow their orders. How true is this statement, whoever is in charge of the boat (usually Hubs) is also in charge of my safety and I have to trust him with my life. I would prefer that nobody messes around with mine or Hubs safety - talking from experience, because its happened to us too.
  12. Kim and Aggy from 'How clean is your house' would probably salt and lemon juice. They have also used worcestershire sauce and tomato sauce for brass. Not sure how good this would be, was tempted to used it on our mushroom vents. When suggested to Hubs, he looked at me like I was a complete nutter - (nothing new there then).

  14. Last night for tea - I had those 'in a bag' mussells in white wine sauce. When finished - all shells went over the side. I always wondered where they would end up and now I know!!! I will sleep better for knowing - Cheers!!
  15. Oh go on then - tell us!!
  16. Please explain how it makes it worse - I thought that a few drops of washing up liquid did the job full stop.
  17. While traveling the Nene around Denford and Ringstead, we have come across those that don't intend to go through the locks, but insist on taking up mooring space that has been put aside for those that use the locks. They then look on with blank expressions on theyr'e faces when you try to moor up at inappropriate places or at dangerous angles in order to negotiate the locks and leave it as it should be left. I should have just been rude and shouted for them to get out of the bl**dy way.
  18. We used to have all our post delivered to work, as we were discribed as 'not officially living at the mooring'. Since, our local (very understanding) postman has agreed to deliver any mail to a communial post box on site. Definately makes life easier.

  20. Our dogs were aged 5 and 6 when we moved onto the boat. They took to the life like ducks to water, dogs adapt really easily and soon got used to all the different sights and smells. We let them have all the freedom they need accept when wer'e travelling, between locks they have the run of the boat, but when we come to a lock they have to be shut up - mainly due to the bitch being a bit of an extrovert and escape artist. I'm glad I have got dogs on-board and wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, in the marina where we live there are 12 dogs and they all get on brilliently.
  21. A few years ago we hired a cruiser from Ely and travelled to Bedford and back in a week. One of the best holidays we have ever had. Not sure October would be the best time to go, parts of the middle levels are a bit exposed and sometimes a little on the boring side. As for travelling across the wash - I suppose that depends on time and experience!

  25. Live in the middle of a lake and we still have spiders (Iam sure the blighters can swim). I have learnt a certain tollerance to them, but draw the line at them making a home above my bed (don't want them crawling on me while I'm asleep). Hubs says leave them alone, they keep the flys down - I say suck um up the hoover!!! Also the dogs think that they make a nice inbetween meals snack, so I leave them to it
