  1. one of my other concerns is, what will happen when Brexit bites ? if our east European friends decide to head home , that will create a hole in the buy to let market
  2. yes something along those lines , I do have investments , and if I like and buy the mooring im looking at , I can continue to work ,its not a stressfull job either
  3. ive got more than 100k ,im looking at a residential mooring this week
  4. don't know about buying a house to let ,but im now thinking of buying a mooring and putting a wide beam narrow boat on it , that I think could be a possibility
  5. ive enjoyed reading this , must admit that its all a bit confusing at the moment, cab I ask a straight question? if you had 100k in cash ,where would you invest it , ive just sold my rented out house and im not wanting to get back into renting
  6. well i tried to make it as far as the Farne Islands but got storm bound a bridlington for 5 days. have a look at the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/42967465@N06/...in/photostream/

  8. gazza i think i remember you,im a member at PYC and one of my buddies has a seamaster and a brown Lab.I have a thick scots accent if that helps
  9. i have the latest all signing and dancing GPS/chartplotter from standard horizon. It combines with my Dsc radio so that i can send out an automatic distress call. Its only any good for speed on the inland stuff, when you zoom in on the map it shows a river(nene) great i though but when you zoom in closer the river dissapears A gps on a narrowboat might be usefull on the middle levels,my buddy does not call fenland "deliverance country" for nothing
  10. if you look out on the wash this friday and see a lone sailorman, please wave My plan for this week is to leave Peterborough at 11 am and exit onto the tidal side of the nene by way of the dog and doublet.I shall then take a slow ride down to sutton bridge where i shall rig my boat for sailing. As lomg as weather permits i will enter the wash at around 2am friday and head up the coast, depending on progress will dictate as the weither i anchor overnight at spurn head or if its good sailing ill aim for Bridlington. The rough plan from there is to have an enjoyable sail all the way to the holy Isle and return by 2 weeks on thursday.
  11. There was a chap badly injured at Orton Lock on the river nene this year.He came within a cats whiskers of death, the accident happened around April,he has jus recently been released from hospital, the incident involved the beam
  12. i had a great bank hol weekend messing about on the Nene,i did however get very wet when i tried to push a narrowboat off of the bank,my boat hook slipped and instead of having 20 or so tonnes on the end of the boat hook it was fresh air and in i went The winds were a bit blowy and the guy was pinned to the bank, later on i watched him land at 45 deg to the lock, i guess he needs more experience the one bad part was when i went to get petrol at Warmington, the cops had shut the station down for forensics, some bloke had killed a little girl and hung himself:(
  13. ive also been told that the sand bank is moving, its making the starboard hand markers look a bit out,ive been told to hug the port and markers from Boston No1 buoy to the witham.
  14. phyllis have you checked the weather forecast? nipping out and into the wash may not be a good idea,i have not checked the tides but they are at springs,so you will find yourself in a wind over tide situation and its strong winds forecast.
