  1. I think it's a mistake to mix up domicile of convenience or expediency with ownership or origin.
  2. Yeah but Hong Kong was British at the time. See my post above.
  3. Suggest you research the history. Does not matter what it's called. Originated from here, HQ in here. Owned by the shareholders not a country. The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was founded by Scotsman Sir Thomas Sutherland in the then British colony of Hong Kong on 3 March 1865, and in Shanghai one month later, benefiting from the start of trading into China, including opium trading. The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited is a bank established and based in Hong Kong since 1865, when Hong Kong was a colony of the British Empire. It is the founding member of the HSBC Group and, since 1990, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the London-based HSBC Holdings P.L.C,.
  4. Any £50K+ boat owner should be proud to have a survey. To deny a survey - well I dunno what to say that will not get me banned. NB that sounds like a lot of dosh for a Liverpool boat.
  5. Martin, it came with the boat so I don't know. Really usefull though. It weighs about 5-6lb - very well made. I get asked that a lot; perhaps someone else knows where these come from (I reckon the wall thickness is about 4-5mm steel.
  6. In that part of the world there are many historics I pass regularly. Asterope (despite bus windows as you say) really is an attractive balance. It looks particularly great at the mo, maybe just been repainted touched up?
  7. Not that I'm aware of. The only one apart from France I saw for sale was Tadworth which is well known about. ETA Oh I see, I have wandered off topic. Forgive.
  8. No; first serving of rum was 11am when sun over the yardarm. I learned that from this very forum.
  9. Still like it here though - but in the 'burbs. In London Central a lot though. Fantastic City - one of the best in the world.
  10. Not bad is it? Six quick snaps yesterday on a poor quality mobile. Message to Dave - lesson learned (titch pipe).
  11. Yes. Used to cycle there from Pinner. We did catch a bream out of there plus an orfe.
  12. Jeez that brings back memories, I used to be in there as a junior member - they had a small pond in Stanmore they used to lease.
  13. Good way to spend 20 mins. Thanks.
  14. Busiest I've seen it yesterday on the Southern Grand Union. I think most boats were steaming to get back on Sunday looking at the weather forecast today. Most of the year it has been very quiet.
  15. Ahh so that's where my neighbour Chris has gone/been.
  16. I spend most of my time avoiding mirrors these days alas.
  17. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  18. No, but he drove the fastest milk cart. Oops sorry no he was driving the Bakers Van.
  19. Teddington was named after two ton Ted.
  20. Yup it's real alright seen it around Harefield. Also around the posh Grove nr Watford. Well have you seen the price of cratch covers these days?
  21. If you traval past Cassio Wharf at the mo, it's like a shop window for old historics. 1) France 2) Asterope (I like that one a lot) 3) Hyperion 4) Elstree and a couple more I could not quite see the name.
  22. Met another couple yesterday. Bought a boat from Whilton currently on their way to London.
