  1. Not on their website. £10 per 20Kg bag, 50 bags, 1000Kg, £500, shipping added at checkout. My shipping came up free. A couple of narrow boat owners went halves on a pallet of cheap coal from somewhere a year or two ago. It was rubbish, hard to burn and lots of ash, My friend tried some in her Squirrel, as they were giving it away for half price. A waste of money.
  2. Sikkens is a wood stain, better used on sheds and fences.
  3. From boats in the marina, and advice I have been given elsewhere, Sikkens HLS and Filter Seven used together, last for five years before needing to be redone. I find it comes up rather dark to my taste, and I am using teak cleaner and restorer, followed by coating with a tung oil based teak sealer, all from Wessex Chemicals. You do have to clean it off with teak cleaner before re-coating with sealer, each year, but it looks better, and is much easier to maintain, than the varnish I previously had.
  4. Well I certainly missed that one, you could never design a boat yourself if there was a Mrs involved, whatever was he thinking of. Then the three years it would take to build it, no chance.
  5. But, Gybe Ho has learned from his experience engaging with shell builders, and taken the good advice he has been given here, gone out, and bought a second hand boat. 1, The best way to balance anything, is in your head, it can always be made to work. 2. An eye test for panels is not needed at all, neither can you feed them carrots. 3, There is no doubt, water is the best washing solution, to aid wildlife preservation, maybe a little lemon juice for stubborn stains. 4. You should network your reversing camera to your Cerbo GX, and then you can view it from anywhere on your phone. I hope that helps with any concerns you have,
  6. Has anyone tried these, Nordlock washers, to secure their prop? No pin needed.
  7. Yes, much as I thought. I remember someone struggling to get it reported on radio 4.
  8. In a care home, are you not able to get help with the care cost element, as opposed to the hotel costs?
  9. The fact that they have been using the VAT money, that is public money, to finance their business, suggests that they might have difficulty trading their way out. IF, they had a strong order book, and were determined to succeed, lived on gruel, worked seven days a week, they might manage it, but the Runes seem to be agains them. Their suppliers, eight of them, stand to lose the £9,000 owed in unsecured debt, not nice for small businesses. Very worrying if you have a boat in build, or paid a deposit. They may have produced excellent boats, but you have to be able to run the business, market the product, and make a profit. Also, to live within your means.
  10. The same here, the owner of a wide beam, who is a heating/renewable technician, does the same. Cheaper than calling out the Webasto fitter, The refurbished one comes plug and play, no messing around, and you don't need the loom and pump, an easy fix.
  11. You can get a refurbished Webasto including loom and pump for about £350, with a years warrentee. As the fault is declared, there is not so much room for negotiation over that issue.
  12. You have to pay for that, old pallets and scrap wood are free.
  13. We had a six-year-old wide beam lifted out in the yard, it had been epoxied from new. The pressure wash took ribbons of paint off down the sides, the bottom had not been painted. The paint failed due to no, or little preparation. The yard manager noted that it was over mill scale, which had a smooth shiny surface, paint could be picked off with your finger nails. Paint will fail if the preparation is skimped As noted above, before any abrasion takes place, the surface should be cleaned off, and degreased. If this is not done, the abrasive will carry the grease all over the surface, leading to coating failure. If using a wire brush, this too should be clean, or it will have the same effect. Again, as noted above, a wire brush will polish the surface, which will need to be abraded to provide a key for the paint. I e-mailed Jotun about Amine Blush, and append their reply. Jotyn email.pdf
  14. Like it or not, a wife will allways be rightie.
  15. If you are really keen and are building your own battery, I came across this free paper, "Temperature effect and thermal impact in lithium-ion batteries: A review," Shuai Ma, et al. Progress in Natural Science: Materials International, Vol. 28. Issue 6. Dec 2018. Pages 653-666. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1002007118307536 It explains how the Lithium Cell works, and how it is effected by high and low temperatures, and the importance of monitoring it. A PDF download is available.
  16. There are Chinese compressors available, which has brought prices down, rather like Chinese heaters. Newer brands, at a lower price, may not be trusted. Some are converted domestic 240 volt fridges, so there is the purchase cost plus the conversion cost.
  17. Air conditioning is more common on motorboats, units are available from Fischer panda, and Dometic. https://www.fischerpanda.co.uk/self-contained_units.html https://www.seacraftmarine.co.uk/air-conditioning-refrigeration There will be fitters around, Fischer and Dometic will be able to recommend a supplier and fitter nearest to you. The units can be physically large, and you would have to work out where to put it. Installation would involve some disruption, and they use your electricity up. Some can act as heaters in the winter.
  18. ...plastic covers in 13A sockets... It is about stopping small children poking things into the holes, like they get Lego bits stuck in their ears.
  19. The cost of a bedsit, in Wandsworth, is £2,000 per month, a recent figure. So I have no reason to believe an increase in licence fees will drive many off. Those who can't pay, and won't pay, will game the system for all it's worth, and the cost of enforcement will escalate, The trust could, if they wished, and at a lot lower cost, remove stuff left on the tow-path, and make a point of clearing them on a monthly basis. The thinking behind this is that they like to live with their own mess, for them, it would be a great inconvenience not to have the wrongly appropriated outdoor space beside their boats. In addition, the trust would get to know who wasn't moving, and who the worst offenders are.
  20. Winning boats at Crick, had windows, and bug screens, for their hatches.
  21. Winning boats at Crick had them, and mosquito nets to pull over. Pure indulgence.
  22. Thank you, some things I avoid because I don't know how they work. I am a bit of a technophobe. My daughter says I don't use half of what is on my phone. The tablet could be a good way to go. As Momac says above, I believe the problem with 12 volt projectors has been getting the power for a large bright image in a room, but might be OK with the small distance across a narrow boat.
  23. Sorry for my ignorance, but does that require a subscription of some kind, and does it connect via your usual internet provider? Also, do you get a million adverts, and Amazon offers. Thank you.
