  1. Notice given for a creditors meeting having been issued. Triton Boatfitters of Eccles in Manchester. Firesprite Middle levels
  2. I was in Oxford at the start of 02, Having spend 9 days working down from Northwich, Having moored up for the night by the junction at Dukes Cut. That night the temp dropped below -10 C frezzing the ice, within the 3 days the ice was over 3 inches thick. Went home for two days to thaw out. While I been away a hire boat had forced its way up the cut. Sinking a nicely restore wooden maid boat. And making dents in the waterline in a number of boats including my own. The hireboat was stopped by BW and ordered to moor up and not move until the ice had thawed. The hirers were not happy with that. The boatyard where iam based, Has ban boat movements due to the ice. 3. Having just return from 10 days in the middle east. I find that trolls (lowest of the low) have taking over the subject. Should have brought back a AK47 . Seems that 2/3 of you don't mind being kept a wake at night by these boilers. While I been gone, Mr newbee has packed up and moved back ashore. Having found that living on boat is not cheap as chips. Seem that he did not belived that he could have used 45 gallons in three weeks plus all the other costs. Firesprite Middle Levels
  4. A new liveaboard has move on to the mooring next to me. The S** has removed the soild fuel stove that was fitted and now runs his forced diesel heating 24/7 . When the damm thing kicks it, its like standing behind a B52 on take off. Iam not even able take the boat off the mooring and go and moor down the river to sleep, as the engine is undergoing a top overhaul. Should forced diesel heating be banned from use like engines on moorings between 10pm and 7am? Firesprite Middle Levels
  5. This firm are 'Cowboys', I place a order with them in July, the order was never dispatched. It was September before I was refunded. Firesprite Middle levels
  6. I leave that sort of thing to the crew on the last 'Dog Watch'. Tea and Breakfast is served '2 bells forenoon watch' by the cabin girl. Firesprite Middle level

  9. Yes, My mooring fees go up in Jan 09 Firesprite Middle Levels
  10. You need to use coal as pine burns to fast. I stoke my stove 2 or 3 times a day using coalite. I you can get your hands on some bog oak that burns forever. Firesprite Middle levels
  11. Since when has the 'Lady of the lock' requested a fee? As I travel to Outwell once a month to collect coal, I have never been asked for a fee. Firesprite Middle levels
  12. Bad News , This is the 1st sign of inpending failing of the rotor windings (Two or Three weeks before going totally dead). The alternator will need to be rewound. A good independent motor factor is best for the Job Cost around £45 pounds, Do a search under 'alternator repairs'. If your near the fens 'Taz Motors, Station Road, March' do a good quick job. 13. You forget one thing. HMRC are experts in taking money off us and shove rubber gloved hands up peoples backsides. Trading Standards enforce trading law, In this case 'The Measurement equipment(Liquid Fuel & Lubricants) Regulations 1988,1995,1999 A case of one department not checking with the other. Firesprite
  14. I did check with trading standards, It was their view that by using the same pump for two diffent duty and vat rates, would not be legal. As there could be errors in charging. Jones of St Ives (Cambridgeshire) is swicthing to selling white from November to get round it. Firesprite
  15. Foxes Marina £1.10 After November 1st . Fuel at Propulsion rate only (£1.72) , Local Trading standards require second pump be installed if selling at two diffent duty rates. Firesprite
  16. The max size on the middle level is 60ft with a 11ft beam for broad beam boats this is due to the tight Briggate Bend. You can just get a 72ft narrowboat round with the air going blue. Stanground and Ashline can take a 11.5ft beam the other three can take a 12ft beam. Firesprite Middlelevels
  17. What happens take a mooring pin and lump hammer (As founded on any boat)? Either bottom of ANTI SIPHONING DEVICE breaks off when hit. Or break off at the join with tank, when the pin is used as a lever. Both methods have been used locally to break in to tanks as well as punching a hole in the bottom of the tank Firesprite
  18. Does the cap part fit a standard diesel filler fitting? The cap is wider and deeper to allow the lock to fit. I dread the thought of having to enlarge the hole "a bit". How much is a bit? For me two mins with the file It looks as if it would be easy to drill out the rivets and remove the whole thing from the tank? I used rivets as it was what i had to hand, The task is to make the crook have think twice. (5 mins is a long time for a crook). and try someone elses. Taking the lid off and putting a hose in takes seconds and move off and can be done from the bank. With just using rivets that I used it takes 10 mins with a cordless drill out all three rivets, About the same time it would take me to cut a 1 inch hole in the tank with a hole saw. You can punch a hole in a standard lorry tank with a screwdriver. The other two caps I seen being used by sunseeker are fitted the same way as a skin fitting ie a large nut screwed onto the base. 19. S. G. Gray & son. 5, Market Street, Wisbech. PE13 1EX. 01945 581555 (YachtChandlery@aol.com) Import a very nice for only £16.95 +P&P (Pics to be posted on Monday). It is well made from chomed brass. Our local fuel thief hates it . Comes with two keys. The hole in the tank needs to be enlarged a bit to fit. The lock is in the base of the cap and prevents the cap from unscrewing when locked. Anyone passing Foxes this weekend is welcome to stop and have a closer look. Grays are due to place another order next week (Three weeks) Firesprite
  20. All of us who live at the marina have our post delived to the marina office. And I produce letters from both the tax office and t the council at the time. Firesprite The uncivil servant is question has been stamped on by the area manager. And have moved on to signing by post. So complaining does work, you just need to go up the food chain. Deal with the 'organ grinder' and not the 'monkeys'. Also helps if you have a string of letters after your name. This uncivil servant clearly followes the narrow minded 'New Labour view' that anyone with out a Job is 'worksly' and on the 'fiddle' and that his job was to get the 'worksly' off the books. Seems he did the same sort of thing at the Huntingdon office to boat owners and was transfered. Firesprite
  21. Having just been made redundent by the college. They think that ICT will run by its self and just call someone in if anything goes down. Went along to local Job Centre (20 miles away) and was told that as I was of no fix abode (Berth in local marina does not count), that I would have to sign each day (200miles aweek). Has anyone else had this problem?. Hopefull I be back in employment soon rather than later. Firesprite
  22. Hireboats = Rammers As thats what many do!. While yelling!, where are the brakes, when they ram your boat or a set of lock gates. Firesprite
  23. May not have happen in Ely Fuel being stolen is a problem in Fens. I lost a tankfull just after christmas , I had left the boat on the town moorings on the Library side under the trees, when I was called back to the office. returned three hours later. Noticed the the top of the rudder was showing out of water (Top of the Rudder is only above water when less than a 1/4 tank is left), Dipped the tank, less than a inch. A all blue boat (40ft), No name or number was seen moored stern to stern (fender to fender). The owner is well known by local boaters as a trouble maker and is banned from local marinas. At the present time someones tank is being emptyed about every 5 to 6 weeks. As to how it can happen?. Someone passing by may not see anything out of place if what looks like rope is infact a hose linking tank to tank. At the last London show, there was product on show, which looked just like a hose which was placed 1st in one tank and the other end in the other. With out having to suck. Firesprite
  24. The garage Gas oil tank is the same size as Foxes and that Foxes has a higher throughput with Gas oil sales. As the only other outlet on the levels is up at Bill Fen way off the main route. My yearly fuel costs are now higher than my mooring fees. And to think only seven years back you could fiil a 40 gallon tank for only £30 (Turners) Firesprite
