  14. Two friends of our's had major problems with the motors caused by not using them! Accumulated condensation started to damage the commutator and windings! one was fixable by cleaning one had to be refurbished.
  15. Colin How old is the bow thruster? And have you been having problems as the motors are pretty bombproof as long as they are used, no use can equal problems! All the ones i have seen (mine included) the brush access is definitely by removing the mesh! It sits in a recess in the case and the two ends are held together with two springs with hooks on the end that clip into the mesh. Is the large plastic cover over the contactor/connections still in place as the end of the mesh maybe behind that!
  16. You can remove the motor it is attached with 4 or 5 7mm machine head bolts. Beware it is attached to the gearbox via a splined shaft, so splitting it from the gear box can be difficult if access is restricted as the motor is very heavy.
  17. Held together with a spring loaded clip metal mesh then just lifts away brushes are then easy to remove!
  18. Explain that to your insurance company if it had gone pear shaped!!!!

  23. Below is a copy of an email just received fr BW Dear Mr Gill British Waterways is currently in the process of reviewing the maximum boat dimensions for travel on the Ribble Link. Our teams are undertaking sounding surveys to measure the depth of the water to ascertain this information. Depending on our findings, we may increase the maximum depth permitted which is currently 2ft. However, it is highly unlikely that this will increase to above 2ft 6in. Following confirmation of the depth, any craft exceeding the revised maximum dimension provided by British Waterways will not be permitted to travel on the link. I am aware that in years past a number of craft exceeding the recommended maximum dimensions have been confirmed by British Waterways to travel on the Ribble Link. However, we are keen to take a consistent approach to all customers as we move forward towards charitable status. With a draught that exceeds 2ft/ 2ft 6ins, you are at greater risk of getting into difficulty. British Waterways will be not be in a position to provide assistance in these circumstances and as such, will not be confirming passage for any boats outside the fixed maximum dimensions in the future. I appreciate that this may not be the outcome that you had hoped for. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions regarding the above. Ruth Moran Administration Team
