  1. Might find some other ideas and how to install them on here http://dawncraftowners.com/phpBB3/index.php
  2. here is the closed thread after the other was pulled http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=22595
  3. If you get there Yoda do pop by and say hello, I am Harlequin a cruiser a few boats down from Journeyman (A bit nearer the pub!)

  5. Our boat used to be moored at Silsden. As we were shared Ownership, no instruction was expected. In the shop though, as it was a hire base for several companies at that time, there was a wooden working model of a lock, apparently this was the instruction. It was so small barbie would have looked like a giant! The L&L though has to be one of my favourite canals.

  7. Approved Document J (AD J) as with all AD's are guidance on how to comply with the Regulations, not the Regulations themselves.
  8. I never now recommend anywhere as in the past I have told people to try this or that establishment only to find their experience very different to mine and it is somehow my fault they had a bad time! Posts here seem to echo the fact that there is a lack of consistency at hostelries around the system. probably best to just go and have your own experience, you might just have one of the nicest meals for a while (or maybe not) but it would be your choice!
  9. While on the L&L a few years back, we came down the lock, as the gates were opened I noticed there was a BW boat right in my path that I would have to manoevre round as he had stopped directly behind the gates. As I came out with the tiller hard over behind me, the BW operator pushed my bow out. Consequently the tiller caught in the lock gate, I realised just in time and threw myself on the deck as the tiller became free and sprung forward. As I passed him picking myself up he casually said 'good job you threw yourself down, that would have killed you' It just goes to show that a stupid action by someone else could cause terrible results. So we have to be aware of what ALL people are doing at locks, not just our own crew. I might add it was difficult limping back to base with a very out of line swan neck!
  10. She really wants to hire a plastic one!! LOL

    what dog?

The reason our dogs wear safety harness or jackets is because they find it difficult to get out if they fall in with the vertical sides of the canals and it is something to grab hold of to hoick (?) them out. The husky would be sooo heavy if that fur got soaked through! Our previous husky was on the towpath on the L&L in the rain (on a rope) she loved the rain and normally refused to come in. We looked out to check on her and she was in the water, she had slipped down the bank (a steep towpath side near some locks) and into the water. She was as still as anything, just calmly holding her head up. It would have been difficult to get her out without the harness and she weighed very heavy. A heart stopping moment! (should have put this on the heart stopping thread!) She took days to dry out too. Yes they can swim but find it difficult without assistance to get out.
  12. http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php...c=23755&hl= This other thread is running where I have posted some pics of our Holly who has boated and loves it from 10 weeks old and a Pic of our dear old Tazzy. We too have always had an older dog and introduced a younger one, the baby learns from the older dog. Holly was our first puppy, we have always had rescue dogs. We got a puppy as the Husky rescue place thought we were 'unsuitable' to have a rescue dog despite the fact we already had Kara who was a rescued husky who we had had for 15 of her 16.5 years but apparently that did not qualify us to know how to look after one! Sometimes you do wonder about these things, but at least I suppose we have managed o stop another husky pup going to rescue as many choose these dogs because they are cute, but believe me they are hard work! Well worth it though!
  13. Could always hire a plastic boat from bridge boat yard Bones, now that would be an experience for you!!!! We could arrange a banter at the Lazy Otter!

    what dog?

Holly's first adventure on the boat, she caused quite a stir on the canal. several people said, 'Oh we've heard about the puppy on a boat.... Bit more grown up And Tazzy the Heinz 57, she loves a swim and we have to stop her jumping in as she would be in t' cut all the time
  15. wow, me too, thanks for the recommendation Carol

  17. Let me try and explain what is behind the start of this thread. I found this on a site opened by a GOBA breakaway group last year, apparently they got so much stick from the committee they gave it up, or so I'm told Oh well, It's October the 2nd and it looks like the new GOBA Forum has been pulled?? There was a little animosity between some of the old and new forum members, in as much as some of the old die hard members thought they could bully a newer member by criticizing her & others comments, just because they were lighthearted and slightly off topic. There was an excellent response from her and it was suggested that the forum was unwelcoming and unfriendly,a view that I have to agree with. But it seems that somebody at the top didn't like it as the forum has been closed. Perhaps there is room for a breakaway forum, where people can debate, that doesn't get shut down at the slightest sign of a disagreement. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 02, 2008 guess who was being talked about! Nobody has posted anything that would upset. If we had then there would be cause for upset. We were told we could not mention any other river but the Ouse as someone dared to mention a four letter word (Nene)! A post was also deleted that just contained 2 smileys and we had to fight to get those and avatars The forum was not closed for the reasons stated above but for a technical problem involving the GOBA site too, the whole lot was down. The forum is also owned by the members for the members not to cater for one person who moderates. I know moderation is a thankless task (I do it) but no one has posted anything that needed to be removed. As I stated earlier up this thread, I got a 'board warning' by pm to say I had transgressed the rules just after Christmas as I dared to say that the river was frozen and the weather was bl.... cold.
  18. I got a board warning for using the 'word' bl.... Biggles, come and join us on the tupperware forum, Like this one we allow all types of boats! I am setting up an Ouse thread there I did not think that you could join the forum without being a GOBA member which is why we are known as a number!

  20. Should he be deleted? he has already made 5 boring posts! Have we seen him on here before even though he only joined today?
  21. Is that just because the moorings officer was local do you think? Have others seen similar signs at other stoppages?
  22. It says in the Mirror this morning that the alleged murderer was trying to moor a 50ft barge (their word) in a 20ft space and hit the other mans cruiser who came out and shouted at him and a fight broke out. Restarted later then the man was found dead in his boat. They labelled it as rage too. They tell the story better than me too!
  23. In the avatar he just pinched yours LOL I got a Board warning from GOBA because I said it was Bl**** cold So I don't think you would have to do much to get banned from GOBA entirely. We do have a bit of a crowd on there now trying to wind them up! Mind you Sue - No Problem is a big fan, not!
