  1. Quality bit of towpath though. Not that I would particularly want to walk it, as not the nicest/safest area.

  3. We knocked a windlass off the side of the boat last year. Got the kids to spend 30 mins hunting for it with the sea searcher....until they dropped that in aswell. 30 mins and 30 quid lost
  4. If you are with Anglowelsh prepare to be quite upset because the charge somewhere between 90p to £1 per litre
  5. I do find that the jokes/tangents go on a bit, but it's really not a problem is it? it keeps the thread near the top whilst waiting for more people to come online to offer the advice needed. Comments complaining about humour that then go on for ages are more tiresome I find. It's always been the same though In the end of the day this is a forum. A forum that people come to when in need of advice. However, those people that provide the advice also have "needs" (some special). To keep those that can offer that advice here, they must but allowed to crack a joke, go off on tangents and enjoy themselves. I imagine it would become very boring place for those people if ONLY answering questions.
  6. i drive this way on my way home from work. ill see what i can do....

  8. I have a very good overview of the Correspondent Central Banking Model (CCBM), an am highly experienced in the activities of the Cryptocurrency Bank MLM (CCBM) I do also know a little about Clark County Beverage management (CCBM) I am the proud owner of a Card Chronicle Bird Mask (CCBM), which I like to wear on a Saturday night when the gang come around for our swinging parties i am also occupational, and very confident. Especially when wearing my mask. if you would like to join one of my parties, i can provide you with a mask, and we can consider it an interview?
  9. Easily doable. Have done it. Have also done Warwickshire ring from Shobnall and Mercia marina, which are both a fair bit further. Its a case of whether you want to do an average of 10 hour days, or less, and stop more. Its all down to personal preference. Personally for me the first few days i love going from 0630 to 1930/2000....I just want to keep moving and love the early mornings/evening cruising. im relaxed and its what i enjoy. However as the holiday goes on i do less and less down to 6-7 hours. This works for me. Your cruise would be a nice jaunt. (and an hour or so less per day than my weekly averages)
  10. There are more and more academies popping up now. (my kids go to an academy) Their school holidays are slightly different to the national school holidays. (2 weeks in Feb, 1 week in April, 1 week in may, 4 weeks in the summer, 2 weeks in Oct, 1.5 weeks at xmas. This allows some cheaper deals when going abroad (Oct/Feb), but not as useful for boating
  11. Last year we moored just before a lock and set off to do the lock in the morning. As we were IN the lock....a passer by walked past. The "lady" shouted at me as she went by....."Oi, make sure you slow down as you go past my boat" Would she have don't that to a private boater? Doubt it. Shortly after we had stopped for water. As we were filling up the "lady" boater went past in her boat creating a wash larger than the Boxing day Tsunami.
  12. This is good advice. Some hire companies charge for fuel....as a one off charge. If you use more, you don't get charged more. If you use less, you don't get a refund. Others (Like Anglowelsh) charge for fuel....they fill up on return and give a refund if you use less than the initial charge. But charge more if you use more (Although you have to go a fair distance. We went from Gt Haywood, round the four counties, then to Fradley and back....and still got a refund) If its the latter do take Nightwatch's advice. From memory they charge around 90p a litre, so there is a saving to be had if filling up elsewhere.
  13. I daresay this is a myth. As I have mentioned I have no experience of hire companies encouraging anything other than short trips. Can anyone who has hired say that they have been encouraged to do more? Be interested to hear. Boats not slowing down is a problem, and is annoying as hell I agree. Some people will never slow down because they are ignorant, others go to fast because of lack of experience, and in my case on the odd occasion I have been day-dreaming.
  14. Smaller companies, with a smaller range of quality boats tend to sell up very quickly. (and so don't need Latelink) The company I use have completely sold out this year already (and have been since early Feb). 25% of next years dates have already been sold too. Therefore it only tends to be the larger companies who use Latelink as they don't tend to sell out, and need another source of advertising. imo I used Latelink last August to book a holiday in August. The companies I wanted to go with had long since sold out
  15. You'd think so but i did the four counties early August last year and it was the quitest i have known it.
  16. I have hired 24 times in total, and in every instance (5 different hire companies) we have been encouraged to do short out and back trips, rather than a ring I had always considered that hire companies prefer you to do shorter trips as they are financially worse off the further one goes. but since hire companies started charging for fuel used they are less concerned about distance
  17. it took 6 years to build the whole stretch. 200 years later it gonna take 6 months to fix 100ft of it. Thats progress
  18. i know it's a seller's market right now.....but this seller has played a blinder.
  19. Before bottom lock as in just before the winding hole by Moss Hall Bridge No. 79. (Your are thinking near top lock) To be far probably too soon for you to stop after coming out of Overwater marina. It's nice just before Adderley Locks too though
  20. We always more just before the Audlem bottom lock. One of my favourite ever spots. Only a 10 minute walk then to Shroppie fly.
  21. Well I have shared on my Facebook page in the hope that walkers, cyclists etc who appreciate our canals, and don't contribute in any way can help if they wish. Doubt most will. I don't currently have a boat, and so don't pay a license fee. I have made a donation as I want to give a little back
  22. Thanks so much for that. I have checked back several times over the last 18 months to see if there was an update......and tonight finally decided to post about it. I'm glad i did. Please do update when you can......as i'm sure others like me will always be keen to hear the outcome (even after months/years) Fingers crossed all will end well.
  23. Anyone ever hear what the outcome of was? Shame the forum never received an update despite the lengths some peeps went through to help (unless i missed it) Chris and Graham #1877 Posted August 21, 2016 Yes we will start a new line when we are able to tell you more. Thank you all.
  24. I know what you are saying, but looking at 70ft Trads on the net, when you know you want a 60-65ft semi or cruiser will send you mad.
  25. My honest opinion is go and look at more boats and get a better gauge of what you want. Take the dogs with you The boats you have posted are 57ft upto 70 ft. 2 berth upto 7 berth Cruiser, Trads and Semi Trads Some quite different boats here, and I do feel you need to establish whats important to you For me the Barry Hawkins is the best hands down, but if you don't need 7 berths, not being able to cruise the Pennines, increased costs, and not much space at the back for your dogs are an issue....then it rules this boat out. Miss Mollie, isn't a patch on the BH boat, but it's smaller and may be more suited to you. I'm looking for a boat too, and I have looked at all the 57-60ft boats you have posted....but none of them fit my personal requirements.
