Not got one of those 'Bank 1/Bank 2/Both' rotary-type isolators by any chance? If so, was it in the correct position to charge the domestic bank whilst cruising?

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of 'standard' hopper-type windows in a narrowboat? Need to sort out some curtains/blinds and can't find the bit of paper/fag packet that I wrote them down on! Thanks, Dave

It is a lovely boat. It's been moored at Whilton as a liveaboard since it was built.

That thing cost over £200k to have built - classic case of someone with more money than sense being ripped off by a builder.

Gets my vote. Servicing Diesel engines is quite straightforward. There are usually manuals available online if you don't have one. The good old Haynes manual is quite useful if you've got a marinised version of an automotive engine - the pictures show what is what/where.

I know people that live on cruisers - a single guy on a 22' (& his son stays most weekends), and a couple on a 26'. Wouldn't do for me, but they're happy enough. Must know a dozen singletons on 30-40' boats, and a similar number of couples on 40 - 50'.

Found it! Without going into detail, it complies with the letter of the law, if not necessarily it's spirit!

Approaching the BSS, and I have a concern over the above. I only have a Paloma and a Vanette oven. The Paloma has it's own isolator, but there isn't a seperate one for the oven (or if there is, I can't find it!). The BSS reads as though seperate isolators are compulsory - is this the case? Or is it a case of 'in an ideal world'?The fitout is original, including the oven (1990 nb, btw) and the boat has obviously satisfied requirements before. The trouble is, there's no realistic way of fitting one close to the appliance either.

I seem to remember being told it was about £1000 per foot - even the boatyard I was talking to reckoned it was better to trade up than extend.

Hi Martin Can't afford to pay someone else to do it I'm afraid - was made redundant last year & am only just managing to keep hold of the boat as it is! I've been quoted about £50 for the steel, cut to size & with a hole drilled for the lock. Didn't think that was too bad with steel prices as they are. Any suggestions for fitting are welcome! I'm looking at replacing the pitiful wooden doors at the stern with steel - has anyone had this done? How much did you pay for the steel?

A landing stage/pontoon!! Must be 40ft long. I think the Trailboat festival is going to be held here this year, so it must be for that. I for one would sooner see the money go towards lifting a bridge, or the reconnection, but there ya go.

Ah!! They have been working on pylons further up the line, and the line does cross the canal.

We walk the dogs on the Grantham canal most days (living a 2 minute walk away) and were suprised to find a change this afternoon - during this morning a section of fence & hedge has been removed and some pilings put in - sort of! There's no notices anywhere, and I can't for the life of me think what they're for - it's about 100 yards from the closure at the A1. Anyone know?
