  1. You ned a slight list to port/starboard and to the stern in order to make sure that any water from leaks in the plumbing or bursts can run into one corner where you can pump it out.

  8. One of the reasons why I would not have a cratch & cover or a pram hood.
  9. We are at Higher Poynton on what is now called Victoria Pit moorings. We will be there on Saturday but we will be moving up to High Lane during the day. I'll PM you my mobile number if that fits in with your plans.
  10. Just wait till you get to the UPF. It is even better and Bugsworth Basin is a great place with a good pub.
  11. My uncle, Dick Hughes, lived on a narrowboat there. Must have been around 1972. I think he worked a bit for the basin and painted canal artwork on Mateus Rose bottles. I can remember visiting him. He died there from a heart attack.
  12. Etching primer is essential when painting aluminium. Nothing will stick permanetly without it. It is nasty stuff though and requires good ventilation when using it.
  13. I've just worked out that you have saved yourself typing 14 letters and pressing shift four times.

  15. Hey. Whats all this about lime green boats? Nothing derogatory I hope.
  16. I've got one. Waste of money as far as I'm concerned. Worst £100 I've ever spent.
  17. Mine's the same - I've learned to live with it. I just pump it out now and again
  18. Where are all the boats gong to come from? Boatbuilders are going out of business at the moment. Maybe this will be the renaissance for them.
  19. You may be right about the permission thing. I'm not convinced. Your house must be full of written confirmations! However the club thought that it had permission. That is what matters. I am not an official of the club but I am reliably informed that BW were made aware of the club's intentions and verbally gave the OK. No moorings were reserved by the club. In fact out of the 30 odd boats moored in the lower arm I counted nine that were not club members. There was no instuction from IWPS - merely a request. I realise that I called it an instruction at one point. This was a mistake. So the only thing that was a problem is that the man who asked Kikki to moor elwhere was doing so because he didn't want her to be inconvenienced by the club members. He may not have put it in very affable terms but those were his motives. If your final paragraph is correct then what was this about? You do know that Kikki was at Bugsworth on Wednesday - It was the date of her first post from there in this thread. You do know that she was still there on Saturday at least - her last post from there and you visited. I can assure you that they left on Monday. So did I and they shut the swing bridge at Furness Vale on us when they knew we were behind them. I am sorry if the club has a reputation for being arrogant. It is one of the reasons that it liased with IWPS over the August meeting at Bugsworth. As I understand it from those in charge, BW was informed of the intention and gave its approval verbally. The club is aware of the problem and is trying to improve matters. The club is not desperate for members although new ones are welcome. At the moment we have about 200, the moorings are full and financially it is thriving. I find the members of the club very friendly and willing to help. The moorings are cheap, there is a workshop and a slipway where you can get your boat out of the water for £40. There is a wealth of knowledge about all things boating which members are more than willing to share. For instance, I recently had an electrical problem in that my fridge ceased to work. Another member helped me to sort it out by providing a fuse holder and fuse, some of the necessary tools and his time all free of charge. I found a club member broken down at Disley on Monday and towed him home. There is a great sense of camaraderie. I should like to point out that I am not an official of the club and my views and opinions are purely personal. I shan't post any more on this thread.
  20. Hypocrites. Of course your complaint is not about overstaying, You arrived on Wednesday and did not leave until Monday. You overstayed by three days. Your tame barrack room lawyer said: I would like to see him condemn his cronies for doing the same before I take any of his comments seriously. I repeat. The club had permission from Ian Edgar of the IWPS to erect the marquee and hold the event. The club was requested to try to keep all the disruption confined to the lower basin. Your barrack room lawyer will claim that thwe IWPS has no authority to issue such permission but they think that they have and so does the NCCC. The IWPS manage the site for BW. You entered Bugsworth basin and when you attempted to go into the lower basin a disabled man asked you not to do so because he was trying to comply with IWPS instructions. You took umbrage at this because you saw this basin as ideal for your own small gathering and spent most of your time at Bugsworth composing and posting silly complaints about the NCCC instead of relaxing and enjoying yourself. Then we got this: Utter nonsense. All the club members are licence payers too. What is the difference between them trying to have a good time together and you doing the same with your three boats? And you were occupying the upper basin moorings for a legal length of time? I think not. So you were just as guilty as the five boats in the vanguard of the NCCC gathering of preventing others from mooring there. I repeat - hypocrite. So you don't like the music. Neither do I much but there were a few dozen licence paying people attending the evening in the marquee including some non members of the club who did like it. I visited the upper basin at 10pm on Saturday night and I had to strain to hear the music so you must have moved nearer in order to evaluate its quality. The club HAD permission despite your claim that it did not. Stamping your little foot, jumping up and down in frustration, and condemning the NCCC on these forums will have little effect and will not prevent club members enjoying themselves.
  21. Sounds like a good idea - I'll suggest it to those in charge.
  22. I'll come back in to say that at Easter the club raised over £300 for IWPS funds.
