  2. Thanks for the link. Episode 7:1 has an interview with an old friend, Adrian Bird, who I haven't seen for 20 years!

  8. Going up a lock near Chester I entred the lock and the boss started to fill it. After a while I noticed that the stern was down on one side and had a look round the boat to see where it was hung up - nothing. By now the stern was well down and I was really puzzled. She shut the paddles and we had a good look. It turned out that I had entered the the lock with a stern rope trailing in the water. This rope had got jammed between the bottom gates and was holding the stern downm. Haven't done that again.
  9. You've opened a can of worms here. Opinions are as disparate on here as they are in your syndicate.

  12. I really don't understand. You pull in, ask someone to pump out your toilet, go to the shop/chandlery, come back and pay your £15. What is so unpleasant about that? Dave - the worst elsan point I ever saw was at Whaley Bridge. Full and sh*t everywhere. It doesn't matter to me whether this was caused by a self PO or not it was still disgusting. To pretend that most Elsan points are clean and pleasant places doesn't wash with me.
  13. What has it got to do with BW? Typical BW bashing. For you nothing they do is any good and I suspect that this will be true of C&RT.
  14. Ah, but isn't CWDF a bit of a club or association? Having said that I'd support you despite several differences in the past because you are not a "BW basher" but you are capable of acting in the interests of boaters in general.
  15. And therefore represent a minority of boaters.
  16. There you go. I confidently predict that there will be no "official" CWDF candidate(s).
  17. Of course in order to stand the candidates will have to reveal their identity to the forums in order that they can be voted for.
  18. How will they be self selecting? Let's suppose that we get ten people wanting to stand. We then have a poll. If the poll idicates that there is one person with ten votes, another with eight and so on then, if there is no target figure for the number of "official" candidates, all will stand and divide the CWDF vote. If we select one candidate then he/she will gain all CWDF votes in the election.
  19. That is true but a single candidate would attract more votes from CWDF members in the final election than four separate ones will individually.
  20. OK Lets start with a poll on how many.
  21. Five pages and not a suggestion about how to select a nominee(s). Can I suggest that a separate thread is started purely for those who wish to be considered. Then a poll selecting nominees.
  22. As for the smell during a pump out I have never smelled anything but that may be because I'm not often present. I'm usually in the shop or chandlery whilst someone else does the deed. I've had both and much prefer the proper job - a PO Starcoaster - your opinion is not really relevant as you have never experienced a PO loo. I put up with a cassette for years and accepted the disgusting emptying process but this boat has a PO and I much prefer it. Elsan disposal points are disgusting. Nearly always in a mess. I'm glad that I don't have to go in them any more.
  23. All men grow beards. It is only those who want to look like women who shave them off.
  24. I've been boating for 10 years now. 5 with our present boat. On a still day sometimes the bow swings to the left and other days it swings to the right when reversing. I have to do some pretty accurate reversing when I enter our club arm and can confidently say that I am still useless at it. The rudder has no discernable effect at any speed which is not surprising as its area is a tiny proportion of the hull length and it is not directing a jet of water. Progress is very slow as I have to constantly put it in forward to straighten up. The accuracy of my reversing is also dependent on the number of people watching.
