  1. This technology has been around for years. There is engines that run on hydrogen but the great powers of the world will not let them go into full production. Just imagine the world economy runs on oil and hydrogen engine takes the place of the oil powered engines. The world economy would collapse. All the wars over oil would be pointless and we would have a cleaner planet. Just my view point on this don't want any flack. Cheers Kevin Ps get bubbling have a nice day
  2. Hi, I know I'm a bit late answering. I've been using my mobile. Phone to use the canal world site. And I have just got the pc going again and noticed your message. Since been on the forum it has really opened my eyes. I now relies it's not as easy as some people think building and running a narrow boat. It's a great forum with loads of helpful members. Thanks for the welcome. C...

  3. Hi proper job. I looked at the BW link and there is vacancies at Rotherham. On the Sheffield canal. But there dosent seem to be any in Doncaster. I know there are private mariners that charge crazy prices with vacencies. I suppose you have to be prepared to travel for a mooring. Thanks for the link
  4. Why don't BW build some new mariners. There's definetly a shortage of places to moore NBs with all the money they make they don't seem to biuld new mariners. At Doncaster college there's a large lagoon doing nothing. Google Doncaster college it's right next to the college on the sheffied canal. And I'm sure there lots of other places around the country that would also be ideal. Or do BW want to keep a shortage of moorings to keep the prices up.
  5. What worries me. Even if the water is pumped out with the bilge pumps there is still a lot of moisture down there that can work it's way up into the living quarters. Is there ever a damp or mould problem.
  6. I'm planning on going for the crusier style. Are you more likely to get water in the engine bilge. With the engine being where it is under the deck. Yes I bet the weed hatch is a problem to seal there's a lot of force in the water behind the hatch. You wouldent think with today's technoledgy you would have problems with water getting past the drive shaft seals.
  7. I've been Reading about the importance of bilge pumps in one of the topics and the importance of having a auto float switch and a manual switch to check the pump is in working order. Do the modern day hulls leak often. I dare say with the occational bump welds are going to weaken and leaks could happen. Or are the bilge pumps there just incase there's a internal leak from water tanks and plumbing. Are narrowboats prone to leaking. Some of the working boats I've seen with batterd hulls had no leaks and the only water present was rain water from being open topped. I'd hate to fitout a narrow boat and find it was a leaking. Wood and water don't mix Cheers kevin.
  8. B&Q do a good selection of ropes, can buy by the metre or in rolls.
  9. Great topic. While staying with friends in bulgaria they used a lorry diesel tank painted black And a roll of plastic hosepipe laid on a concrete roof painted black. And that was there hot water supply for the summer months. To adapt solar energy to heat water in the summer months on a narrow boat is a great idea. Especialy with the size of the roofon a narrowboat
  10. We have a saniflo fitted. It's our main toilet. The pipe work has been in for 20yrs it's the solid White plastic type with glued elbows and joints. Made by polypipe. And there's no smell that comes from the pipes.
  11. I don't use either, I'm in the planning stages looking at options. I think the pump out system is by far better than cassette type tiolets. I think I'd go for the electric option of self pumping the waste away. With a 150gal tank. I think there could be a problem with some emptying there tanks any where. Like some farmers that I know empty there cess tanks on there fields. For anyone new to pumpouts try YouTube there's some good videos on how to use a pump out correctly
  12. http://www.luxe-motor-kei.co.uk/documents/toiblett.pdf I read this on another forum maybe it may solve alot of the hygiene issues about pumpouts. I've also read that black water treated with these tablets is safe to pump into canals and rivers. Toiblett - dutch product that breaks everything down. Keith at the ShipStore on Platt's Eyot sells it by the tub of 12 tablets - or can be bought in NL in industrial size tubs. When I pumped out, there was nothing visible. Apparently the MD of Toiblett has drunk the discharge liquid from a Toiblett treat black water tank!!!! One way of emptying your tank. Drink it
  13. Hi Ann there's some that have not been recoverd. Hard to believe.
  14. Cannot believe it. How can anyone steal a narrow boat and get away with it. Look at this site. http://www.stolenboats.org.uk/search.php3?q=narrowboat&catagory=narrowboat
