  1. The death trap was about the moorings at Chirk - not the sanitary station at Gloucester
  2. Maybe she had none but the welding was being done at a yard and they wanted it so that if anything happened to her boat (but not caused by them) which caused damage to other boats then her insurance would cover their repairs.
  3. Reporting to the H&SE can be anonymous ... for the very reason you've stated.
  4. So if they are a death trap then they fail to meet Health and Safety regulations so why not report them?
  5. Over half the jetties at Tom's were fenced off, some had no decking, ours had two broken boards and two of the steel mooring Ts had snapped off ( a combination of poor welding and the race track that is the Shroppie). It was far from safe but its now pretty good with 1 water tap per jetty, much better lighting and the new Smart Electricity system C&RT are moving to. It must have cost a LOT of money to do all the work they've done there.... https://www.watersidemooring.com/647-ladybird-linear-mooring-l1 If anyone is wondering
  6. Depends on what you are looking for.. . and at what price....
  7. Ladybird Moorings (Was Tom's Moorings) at Market Drayton was pretty bad - silted up so half the pontoons weren't usable. Pontoons themselves rotten and collapsing. Leaseholder decided not to renew. Came back into direct C&RT control. Recently totally dredged, pontoons rebuilt, old power and water provisioning ripped out, new smart system put in, damaged canal edge all rebuilt. So C&RT do do things. If at Chirk there is a third party maintenance company that C&RT have contracted to do maintenance work, and who are not doing it, then there could be all sorts of legal things going on that C&RT can't tell you about.
  8. I had assumed it was abandoned and was being used as a dump, people passing by on the towpath seemed rather bemused by it too. If there is someone actually living on it then I'd hope that someone was at least checking on them on a regular basis. We've just had a case here where someone was dead in a hospital toilet cubicle for 3 days.. ..
  9. Well lets put it this way - it doesn't move at all when you go past it.
  10. This boat has been like this since at least September last year: It seems to be abandoned - its securely moored but so overloaded with junk that I don't think you can actually get in through the back door..
  11. I assume that means you are going up the flight towards Leeds rather than down the last couple and off towards Liverpool?
  12. I didn't think of looking in the instruction manual for the voltage spec! Basically I just wanted to be sure that they'd not have problems running when the engine is running
  13. Can anyone tell me what the input voltage range is the for 12V input Sterling Inverters - basically what are the under and over input voltages? I assume that they wont complain if they see 14.4volts or so on the input?
  14. Of course not all MiFis are 4G .... the Huawei E5330 is 3G only
  15. Err - the link between the laptop and the Mifi seems to be solid, its his Mifi to Mobile tower that is dropping....
  16. We simply pointed out that the control panel was all low current (and was fused correctly) and that the issue with the negative connection point was that the negative to hull wire from the BM switch (which was 3 inches long) had the engine negative connected to the hull mounting point rather than to the other end of the 3 inch cable. He didn't challenge that at all - he just signed it off... I suspect in reality he had no clue at all about electrics.
  17. There's one right by the bridge in Leigh:
  18. It does look a bit of a mess and the mix of red and black on what I assume are the battery master switches is a bit worrying... but I've seen worse... I still don't understand this "Mega Fuses" bit.. Battery Master switches as close to the Batteries as possible and then suitable fuses in the circuits that need it. Our first BSC got a "fail" because of "incorrect gauge wiring in the control panel" (where it's all very low current with relays doing the main work [all fused]) and a complete misunderstanding of a common bonding point on the negative circuit ("incorrect connection to the chassis")
  19. That's another bridge - in another cutting... High Bridge in Grub Street: Not to be confused with Double Arched Bridge on the L&L
  20. hilarious "advert" for webuyanycanalboat.com ...
  21. Apparently it got stuck open today because it expanded in the heat and they couldn't close it.
  22. So using the same logic we don't need to store nuclear waste we should just spread it thinly over the land it first came from?
  23. Oh it was a large dumping of sump oil into a stream that feeds the canal that did that.....
  24. round here that sort of property would be between 1 and 3 million
