  1. Solid or engineered wood needs regular upkeep - sealing etc and is not especially tolerant of high levels of moisture. Top quality vinyl, karndean etc is much easier in terms of mopping up muddy footprints.
  2. Exactly what I was going to say.
  3. I don't know why RCR would show a photo of the refloated boat if it wasn't the same one sunk in the lock. The pictures of the boat with the RCR team working on it in the lock sure seem to show the same boat to me.
  4. Pictures from RCR Facebook page. Boat sunk due to rudder getting stuck between lock gates. Boat completely submerged. Now floated and it sounds like the owner (unhurt fortunately) is being well supported.
  5. Sounds like you are going to have a great future as a boat kitchen fitter/refitter!
  6. I'm in the market for new worktop for my house. Do you have any recommendations for decent laminate? Thanks
  7. The first boat didn't have enough gas (for some) and the second might use too much! Sounds like you need to find your goldilocks boat that is just right. My old boat also had a 150 gallon tank and that would last 2 of us between 2 and 3 weeks, but then I never used the onboard washing machine.
  8. Sunk boat on L&L https://www.burnleyexpress.net/news/concern-from-residents-as-barge-sinks-in-the-leeds-and-liverpool-canal-in-burnley-4393865
  9. You are very lucky OP - snap it up asap! When we sold our boat and gave up our leisure mooring in Newark on Trent the marina said there was a waiting list of over 30 for leisure and over 40 for residential moorings.
  10. Really pleased you have taken on board the expert advice you've been given. So many times people ask questions and then get all pantsy when they don't get the answer they want. They've already made up their mind and just want confirmation. You are now that bit better informed and I'm sure your ideal boat will be just round the corner. Best of luck.
  11. Really interested to read your response. I know absolutely nothing about this but my husband is a steel boat design engineer (of naval vessels) and that aligns with his view.
  12. Finally managed to walk along the Fossdyke today, or should I say 'wade' as a section of the towpath is still under water. Sadly one of the larger wooden liveaboard boats has sunk so someone has presumably lost their home. Quite surprised to see some of the more 'earthy' boats still afloat.
  13. Its only the ground floor that is flooded - all of the serving and cooking facilities are a floor higher so I would hope that it is pretty safe. I expect the Witham and Fossdyke are as filthy and contaminated as all the other waterways in the UK 😒
  14. Terrific photo isn't it! I was really impressed to see that one of the new burger restaurants on the Brayford was still open for business despite the ground floor being completely flooded.
  15. This is the Brayford now and the Witham under High Bridge (aka the Glory Hole) The flow on both the Fossdyke and Witham is extremely fast but boats are generally looking safely moored. Didn't stroll down as far as Stamp Lock. I expect this is going to take a while to subside. Haven't heard how my old marina on the Trent at Newark is doing. This is where the Witham leaves the Brayford Pool - not seen it this high or fast in the last 5 years.
  16. Sounds like it should be! How very brave of you both and I expect the owners are still singing your praises.
  17. Very grateful I live slightly uphill from the Brayford! Will take a walk to check current levels.
  18. We had exactly the same as Haggis and Howard described - we were asked what handling experience we had (my husband had loads). We started with Towergate insurance then switched to Craftinsure from year 2 onwards. If only one of you has done most of the steering when hiring then the other might find the Helmsman course gives them a bit of confidence. I'm going to be honest and say it took me a good long time to feel completely comfortable steering our boat.
  19. My brother lives in Loxley, Sheffield and the road near his house has waves on it! https://fb.watch/nOu6GkubSG/
  20. You probably shouldn't call them (GRP boats) yoghurt pots either.
  21. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  22. When we bought (and recently sold) our boat we used the same format as ABNB, who our vendor had bought through. A very simple one-side form. Pm me if you want.
  23. Looks a nice boat with a good builder and fitter. Always worth looking at as much as possible in your price range. Out of interest, did you view the first 2 boats you mentioned? Would be keen to hear what you thought of them.
