  1. Regarding soft seals for propane regulators, I once had one which had the conventional brass cone, but with an 0-ring set into a groove at the mid-point of the cone. Worked really well, but the problem with any sort of soft seal is that it's much more vulnerable to damage than the plain metal. Tim
  2. My one experience of fitting a new outboard impeller was not good. The supplied replacement impeller was a very tight fit on the shaft, and I hadn't really twigged that it was important for it to be able to 'float'. It was a good while ago now, so I can't remember the details, but the end result was some sort of seizure within the drive train after maybe 15 minutes' running. Nothing that couldn't be fixed by pulling it all apart again, and easing the fit of the impeller on the shaft, but a bl**dy nuisance at the time. Tim
  3. Maybe you have been missing out the essential Condensed milk?
  4. The secondary fuel filter is on the pressure side of the lift pump.
  5. It will increase the risk of fuel leakage into the sump, and also reduce the effectiveness of the self-bleeding arrangements fitted to some air cooled Listers. Much better to return to the tank, or to a separate container if it's not self-bleeding. Tim

  8. I think it's more a case that you can 'take your water with you' as you descend that stretch, which makes it easier if levels are low than would be going uphill. Tim
  9. Glad to have my opinion confirmed Tim
  10. The impression we had when passing through last year was that Lincoln was not at all welcoming to visiting boats. Tim
  11. I'll hazard a guess that Mike meant 53 tons on 4' draught? Tim
  12. Is the fuel tank below the engine? If not and if the leakoff is returned to the tank that could be contributing to your problem. The original design was for the leakoff to run by gravity into a little container. If there is positive pressure in the leakoff pipe, leakage is more likely, especially so if you have the original style of injector with the needle in the top. Tim
  13. If you haven't smelled gas, chances are that the leak is in the gas locker and so yes, very likely either the bottle connection (are you using propane? I've known bottles where the seating isn't very good and they are hard to seal) or the valve itself. Tim Edit - sorry, just re-read the OP, but I'd still suspect the bottle connection if on propane.
  14. I thought everybody knows the draught of their boat - or thinks they know, in the latter case they'll often think it's more than it really is 3" off the bottom - where's the problem? Tim
  15. I still sometimes address friends - not only ex-schoolfriends - by their surname (and they do the same) Tim
  16. Revolting 'proper' coffee does certainly exist. We had a really good meal out some months ago, the experience was severely tainted by the disgusting coffee served at the end. Tim
  17. Maybe they both went to the sort of school where it was normal to address others by surname alone? Tim
  18. I have no experience of eating/drinking dog crap, but otherwise I'd be on his side. Tim
  19. The red name plate will simply be left over from its days as a BW workboat. Note also the asset number welded to the hull, just below deck level at the back of the foredeck. Tim
  20. That'll depend on what time you go to bed Must admit it sounds a bit optimistic to me, but I'd be interested to see some experimental results. Tim
  21. Fill the flask with boiling water before bed, then put it back in the kettle in the morning. Tim
  22. I think it's been on before, if not a similar one with similar location. Seller does offer to get quotes for shipping. Tim
  23. I don't think you can have ever seen a 2UC box As with a similar question about a Blackstone box a little while ago, it's very hard to give any constructive judgment at a distance. 5 degrees could be at the top end of what's acceptable, but are there any symptoms which give rise for concern? Tim
  24. ...and beyond, lots of options once you get past Leeds Tim
