  1. Naah, mine is different, only the handle is brass.
  2. Ive a brass one, inherited it, it looks very similar to that gold one, same colour Will dig it out (currently stuck to sofa cannot move, honest.)
  3. There was one of those things dumped unceremoniously in the bin sheds next to my mooring.
  4. Lol, I was referring to our latest admin, Magpie Patrick, it's a vety recent thing. Wasn't involved in the other decisions, barely been around this year. But hey ho. All my personal fault innit. When is My sentencing and what will my punishment be?
  5. And some of the best people would never offer themselves up to do it. Lets face it, most people would not want to do it, it takes so much time up for one. This is actually how we did it this time, for the latest addition, it's how I would select people. Ive been asked if I would do it, almost every time Ive adminned. I may have volunteered to help on this forum, (just cant remember it was a long time ago) but not anywhere else Ive moderated. I also spent time researching forums best practise a few months ago and this is what was suggested most places I looked, so we thought we'd give it a go.
  6. Try asking Community boats that have them, one of the London ones recently had new boats built by Colecraft, with lifts in, they would know.

  14. Especially if you use a budget builder, (well you should do it for any new build) spend an extra £1000 and instruct a boat surveyor to oversee the build, bring your own in, not one from their yard. As Aintree is a budget builder, I seriously recommend you do this. I have a friend who is a marine surveyor in London and this is the advice he passed on to me.
  15. I disagree, I think this is a good boat for ccing. Theres a vanette gas cooker on this boat. Im not sure a London ccer needs travelpower, depends what the OP wants. Most London ccers keep it simple, big solar array, only 12v, many dont even bother with fridges. I think if this was gonna be mine, Id replace the fridge with a 12v version (but maybe just use a coolbox outside for the winter) and fit a big solar array and a decent mppt controller. Swap any normal lights for Leds. Dont thinnk anything else needs swapping out tbh. If the OP keeps the eberspacher maintained ( dean dw marine who is local to that marina can do that for you) she can use it for a quick bit of heating on a night if shes back too late to light a fire in the burner. Its really good to have two heating options if you plan to cc in the capital and work away from the boat, youll be able to stay much warmer. I thought it was gas, the op needs to check. It would be weird to find an electric cooker on a boat.
  16. Are you familiar with the cut in London? Cycle down the towpath and try to spot mooring spots, might give you an idea of whats a reasonable size of boat to cruise with. Many cruisers I know wont get bigger than 35-40 foot as it s a lot easier, you can spin them around in more places. Usual caveat, I wouldnt want to start cruising in London, its just getting so, so packed.
  17. Ha! Its my favourite bit!
  18. We've had microbial corrosion, it was all down one side of the boat, but only 0.5mm pits. The surveyor at one of the local drydocks is a bit of an expert on it and has even written a paper on the subject. It ca be treated with 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, we do that when we drydock for blacking.
  19. The amount of dust and dirt a solid fuel stove makes is incredible. I'd need to measure the oven for baking trays. Damp is far more of an issue to manage in winter than cold. Every item of clothing I own would end up with a hole in. I should've spent the first bit of cash I got my hands on on a decent solar array. You can run a fridge quite easily if you have the above.
  20. Boats never move evenly do they? As I said, absolutely no issues this summer, North of here, but its absolutely packed out here in Stonebridge. Never thought Id see it get double moored up here but I reckon by next summer it might be doubled the whole way. Now I love this mooring and its always great to be back, I know I'm lucky, our garden is massive and I can park next to the boat, its secure, its great for the dog, the cafe is wonderful, I often go in there with my laptop to work. But the state of the services makes me despair. They emptied the bins yesterday but they are already full, the low water pressure here means the elsan doesn't flush and the hose doesn't always work. I had to empty a cassette the other day whilst straddling a raw sewage soaked cardboard box that someone had dumped in there. The elsan was filthy because the hose is missing and there's no flush. Its really no good, no good at all. I'm not surprised so many of my friends have switched to composting as the state of the services are becoming unbearable. We've lost a full set of boater services 6 miles upstream of here as the developers supposedly mistakenly demolished them, it s put a lot of pressure on the surrounding ones, the next elsan north of here is now 12 miles upstream.
  21. Well I couldnt moor betwen Ducketts and Kensal when I came through last year, Both times. can't double unless we can get the back decks lined up as my dog is 13 now and cannot see or jump that well. If we go off on a long jaunt next spring ( its looking likely) I will probably try to book something. I used to be really anti bookable moorings but last year wasn't fun, 12 hour day cruising, both times, so its changed my mind.
  22. Got my survey, filled it in, sent it off. Had a great summer bimbling about on the upper Lea and Stort, didnt think it was particularly busy seeing as we managed to moor at all the honeypot places. The only downer is the lack of services, hope to go composting by next summer.
  23. i think relying on detectors can be dodgy, my friend had two onboard, both in warranty and they failed to detect that her burner was leaking CO (large crack in it). I wonder if thats why they are not compulsary, I often call out noobs on dodgy practises with gas or the burner and the answer is often, 'it doesn't matter I have an alarm.'
