  3. I thought it was nice to see the unique characters of the canals, rather than the pensioners on holiday that usually feature in these programs.

  5. Most of the hundreds of Londoners that have £15k - £20k in savings and are looking for a boat to live on won't even understand the difference between steel and wooden top.
  6. It doesn't seem like a terrible deal for the price, depending of course on the state of the under water bits. There are a lot of people looking for boats in that price range, and not a lot of boats for sale. I'm sure it will sell quickly. Probably closer to £20k

  8. Rapid growth is unsustainable.
  9. If it needs overplating, £9k is about £9k too much to pay for it. Probably looking at £5k - £6k to overplate + the hassle

  11. It isn't hard to find ovens for boats, why would anyone think that? Just go to a decent sized chandler and they will have a selection. Why does it need to be 400mm deep? Have you actually measured the space, and why would it matter if you are re-fitting the kitchen Just buy a Thetford Prima and stop stressing about minor details. Same goes for your other thread. The boat already has a good quality 2k inverter. Who in their right mind would need 4kw of inverter power on a narrowboat?

  16. It shouldn't be applied by someone that doesn't know what they're doing, but once applied correctly it is very good and long lasting.
  17. He doesn't have to accept it, but he can't take you to court for non-payment of your banana debt if he turns it down. Also, as WotEver says, he is not obligated to give you change.
  18. Probably more important than passing a small boat. I think.
  19. It is you that misunderstands the term 'legal tender'. You can refuse legal tender for purchases, as I said above legal tender only refers to debts. From the bank of England website: Does legal tender status matter for everyday transactions? No. Whether you pay with banknotes, coins, debit cards or anything else as payment is a decision between you and the other person involved in the transaction. In addition, shops are not obliged to accept legal tender. If you hand over a £50 note to pay for a banana in your local grocery store, the staff are within their rights to choose not to accept it. Likewise for all other banknotes – it’s a matter of discretion. http://edu.bankofengland.co.uk/knowledgebank/what-is-legal-tender/
  20. Legal tender only refers to debts, you can't force someone to take your money to purchase something from them.
  21. Scottish notes aren't even legal tender in Scotland.
