  1. Why does it concern you? Everything I post is checked before it goes on. Please mind your own business.
  2. Yes, an attempt to avoid moderation that didn't work. I'm fully moderated on any account owing to my bad behaviour. I've never seen it flood here, I was just going by what my neighbours say and EA data. Nobody here has ever seen it go over the bank. Mind you the longest has only been here 7 years and I've no idea how long the EA data goes back. Probably not very long.
  3. Not sure yet, I haven't had a chance to go anywhere. But there is a good youtube video of Peterborough to Northampton on this forum which fills me with hope.
  4. Don't worry I'm not hanging around on this forum longer than I need to, but where else can one get information from other boaters? BTW it wasn't the politics ban, it was the science ban that made me flounce.
  5. Didn't you see my last thread with the craning videos? It's in general boating somewhere.
  6. Houses don't float full stop. Having been in lots of floods on my boat and seen the houses around I know which I'd rather be living in. Just my personal experience. I'm sure some people would rather get off their boat and that's fine. How did Tree lose their boat at Billing? I thought they were on floating pontoons?
  7. Because I'm one of those unusual boaters who speaks to their fellow moorers.

  9. It's currently 0.45m at Cogenhooe according to the EA and the highest ever recorded level is 1.24m above datum. Even if it rose 0.79m to its highest ever recorded level it would be only be about a foot over this bank and I could easily get on and off with a pair of wellies or waders so I don't really understand what the panic is all about.
  10. Which model is that? I have a Zanussi ZWC1300W which I sometimes run from a Honda EU30i. The generator is supposed to have a pure sinewave output but sometimes the washing machine hesitates for 20 minutes before it will start from the generator. Other times it starts straight away. I can live with it, but it's a real head scratcher...
  11. I have the smaller version (Nature Pure) made by the same company. It comes with a dedicated tap so you're not filtering the entire system, just drinking water. They're not cheap, but they are very good.
  12. It's definitely the bollard. I've just plugged into the other bollard and the charger is working fine.
  13. Even the best blacking job with bitumen will only last about 3 years so there's an optimum point at which the effort that goes into it shouldn't surpass the result. I once went around my boat after pressure washing to prep and remove old flaking paint, before applying 2 coats of Rylards Rytex and 2 coats of Rylards Premium. That's 4 coats of bitumen. I did it all myself over a week and was very proud of the job, however it still only lasted 3 years, so probably not worth all that effort. As a rule of thumb, when you start to see rust on the waterline you've probably got another year to get the boat out of the water. This assumes normal corrosion and the boat has anodes, not accelerated galvanic corrosion. I used to worry when I saw rust on the waterline, but every time the boat has come out the water (a year after first seeing the rust) I've wire brushed the area and it was just surface rust without pitting.
  14. But still not quiet enough for domestic use in my opinion.
  15. There's another bollard within reach of my cable but the boat looks unoccupied and I'm not sure if there's any credit on the meter. In any case I wouldn't unplug someone's boat before asking if it's ok. I've informed the bollard owners that the breakers are over-sensitive and they should be sending someone out to check it next week.
  16. Just spoken to Charles Sterling who tells me that the older Sterling Pro-digital chargers have a 2.5 - 3 mA earth leakage as standard which he says is within the legal limit. He was surprised it's tripping a 30 mA breaker and told me to check it's not 5 mA.
  17. No, it's just me at the bollard, but my neighbours tell me the bollard's mains supply probably hasn't been used for a few years.
  18. I've never had any problem with the chargers on mains at other marinas before, so wouldn't that indicate the problem is at the bollard?
  19. Thanks. I will try using one of the other bollards this evening or over the weekend.
  20. I've just connected one of the chargers direct to the bollard bypassing and eliminating anything else on the boat but it still trips the bollard. That indicates to my completely inexpert mind that the breaker is too sensitive and the equipment is fine. The rest of the boat doesn't trip the mains and both chargers can't have suddenly developed faults at the same time surely?
  21. Could a moderator approve/update my postsposts please?
  22. I don't really think we should consider an appliance costing several hundred pounds "essentially disposable". I have a small washing machine that's operated faultlessly for over a decade (it will probably break down now I've said that!) However, there seem to be a couple of anecdotes about faulty Candy machines on this thread. I don't know much about them, but is the build quality ok or does this have something to do with their unreliability?
  23. Just tried changing one of the plugs on a charger but it still trips the mains so that's not it. Couldn't really find another earthed appliance, but I'm fairly sure the immersion heater is earthed and that works ok.
  24. I don't know which breaker is which on the bollard, but the one that's tripping is labelled RC225/030 25A. The other one that's not tripping is labelled MC116 C16.
