  1. We have done both over the years survey or no survey - more recently we have only surveyed the hull as the only real issue is steel quality and electrically related damage mainly on little used marina boats which can deliver some surprises!
  2. Thanks Tony - you are right I have misunderstood, on reflection back to my "playing with cars" days I do know what you mean - either way the valve "inner" is not accessible without my removing the tank so I will continue with the plan to replace one with new and then play - worst case is that both will be faulty and I need to buy another , best is that I end up with a spare. Thanks again for clarifying my senility!
  3. I'll have a better look when out but they seem to be "welded" in - spannering didn't move it at all even though it turned................ watch this space..............
  4. update - I tried to pump them up in situ and it didn't work - I then realised that the system wasn't isolated to aid removal so I have now fitted 2 stop taps on the boat side so when the new accumulator arrives I can change it easily - I am going to fit one and then have the old one on the bench to investigate better - certainly the valves alone cant be replaced. More as/when it happens.....................
  5. I'll try - just boring black covers really, it was the great service and price combo I was letting people know about - the whole lot for well under a grand in 6 weeks when others quoted that just for the 8ft cratch with a 4 month wait.
  6. IMHO - there is no connection between Fire Engines and Canal Boats other than Francis Searchlights and the people who buy them (and who take them in every time they leave their boat) !
  7. FYI Our latest buying experience (Feb 2018) view Thursday, offer accepted Friday, survey Monday completed purchase Wednesday. Our latest sales experience (Sept 2017) Day 1 on sale, viewed by one person full ask offer accepted day 3, survey day 14'ish, completion day 21'ish. Surveys are usually 2-3 weeks ahead, completion is very often the same week - realistically all can be done in a month.
  8. Just passing on a good experience.......... We have just had a full set of covers (NOT pram canopies) fitted to our boat - 8ft cratch, 3 pigeon boxes, 2 engine room doors one with a hatch and a steerers door and hatch - great job on time and on budget - J&H Trimmings based at Ashwood - Cliff Turner is your man, I can't praise them highly enough and we have used most of the middle England based companies over the last 30 years. J
  9. Certainly if you do it on the Severn which I have the Lockies (used to) make you sign a waiver to say you accept you are cruising against advice and therefore by implication in-insured - I also got caught out on the Soar once and at a lock BW told me to stop cruising but couldn't offer a safe mooring suggestion so I cruised on to Zouch again without their blessing. To be avoided............
  10. Agreed and the landowners know that
  11. I think Paul J is right, they leave them for all the reasons mentioned AND because they don't have the automatic right to "enter" the land to deal with the trees after cutting/felling. Great spot I know it well - we spent 4 years moored at Oundle Marina app 15 years ago and love the Nene .
  12. very simple answer ............would you want to be facing your boat coming towards you in a tunnel - IMHO LED tunnel/spotlights should be banned close your eyes as you enter and open once in - you will adjust very quickly thereafter
  13. Anecdotal only but not heard anything good about Collingwood - ever - we used to moor near someone who had one with loads of "shakedown down" issues and not good aftersales. Bourne do seem to have a "following" Get as much info on past customers as possible and make contact, as you are here, for real experience of the builder before you commit - my comment above may spark others to rise to their defense and that would be good info for you! Good luck
  14. Agreed.............. and what's all that rope work about?
  15. I like the canoe idea and can see the point A "string" of old car wheels with inflated tyres floating and strung together alongside does work to a degree and is reasonably cheap to source from a scrap yard Looks like a great spot.
  16. Not offended - I guess I must sit between the two as I am a sisal user and always have been on many different boats recently not historic but worthy classics - I just like Joes fenders as they are IMHO the best there is and he is undoubtedly well qualified to make them - even he does make black poly ones as well as his hands are getting a bit tired and I understand he can make two black to one sisal - same price. I'm partial to a mint ...............
  17. ............better to "Duck" him in "creocote" - Ducks don't like oil based products (especially cooking oil) but that's another subject - perhaps that's why he keeps going missing equally bored................
  18. What you obviously missed was the snow plough on the front of the mower! Clearly that's what we pay all CRT's execs for, great vfm - hey............ perhaps it was an undercover licence inspector
  19. IMHO Creosote is essential on sisal otherwise its overkill other brands are available..........................! "Mr Creosote!
  20. Joe Hollingshead - who uses poly as the core for all his fenders, whether the wrapping is poly or sisal, still advises a full soaking in the real thing. NO - that's why they are different - can you think of anything that has been downgraded (by health and safety or the EU) that is as good as it was and fulfills its original purpose?? I have used creocote mixed with old oil in the past or even old oil diluted with white spirit both do the job.
  21. Thanks for that - as I have a bit of time I have just borrowed a cycle pump and bought all the relevant cycle bits on fleabay and will check pressure and review before I spend app £60! Thanks for your input.
  22. 2 completely separate but mounted on the same "supply" board close together and close to the integral tank at the front of the boat.
  23. Hi Tony, I have not come across a double system before and as it is 2 separate systems (and therefore one cant be deployed if the other one goes wrong) what is the benefit??
  24. I agree but sadly its not my installation and there's no scope to adjust the location without MAJOR surgery - thanks - I'm hopeful that a bike pump set up will work where the bulkier car set up didn't. Yes I'm using a laptop, the problem is the issue seems to be intermittent - I will try the "insert" key idea next time the problem occurs - it also only seems to happen when I'm writing a longer post. Thanks
  25. That's what I'm going to with the one that appears faulty once removed - potentially I will end up with a used spare which is OK - I haven't got enough access to change the valve and re-pressure without removing it Question...............do other people have problems correcting text when typed wrongly in that the inserted changes cause the text following to delete like for like or letter for letter??? Or is it me???
