  7. My parents (along with a lot of the Motorcaravan Mob) use personal attack alarms strung from the inside of doors in order to deter sneak thefts similar to this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Attack-Alarm-Bell-Personal-Rape-Safety-Torch-Protection-Keychain-Flashlight-Q-/261526896503?hash=item3ce437bf77 I've done the same to my garage/workshop, except I use something which goes with a bang rather than a beep-beep http://www.henrykrank.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2964 Hope you never have to go through it again.
  8. Hydraulic rams use hard chrome, anywhere that refurbishes hydraulic rams will be able to either hard chrome for you or point you in the right direction.

  11. We used to have lots of sparrows until we got a new neighbour in the houses opposite with 3 or 4 cats. The sparrows left at the same time that cat turds started appearing in my zen garden. I've used automatic sprinklers to chase the cats out but the sparrows never returned. I've nothing against cat owners but I wish they'd obey the law and stop wrecking everything for everyone else. It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act to allow a non-native species to escape into the wild. Cattus Felis is a non-native species, it's from Egypt. The only cat native to the British Isles is Cattus Silvestris, the Scottish Wildcat. Unless you own a Scottish Wildcat you should not be turning your cat out to fend for itself every night. Interesting but only slightly related story, a former business acquaintance of mine owned a falconry centre and was involved with the breeding of Golden eagles as well as keeping other types of eagles for other people. His closest neighbour kept buying kittens and letting them out, we kept finding bits of cat fur and bones in the mews where the kittens had decided that stalking a Golden or Steppe eagle was a good idea. Because people won't learn from each other's mistakes another of his neighbours started rehabilitating and releasing injured foxes from the house across the road, and we stared finding bits of fox in the mews as well (unfortunately this was more of a problem as some of the foxes were transferring antibiotics up the food chain to the birds).
  12. Rat control low powered air rifle, or even air pistol. Can't use poison or terriers around valuable livestock and a more powerful gun tends to leave the farm buildings full of little holes. Ratting with night vision on an air rifle is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel!
  13. In my experience as a "country person" with a contract to control vermin at a couple of stately homes, a .17HMR or similar is the preferred pest control tool for fox, rather than a shotgun. I'm not sure that FAC would be issued specifically for fox on a shotgun, would be glad to query friendly firearms officer on that as will be seeing him soon.
  14. 3/ Armed Trespass, which carries a mandatory minimum custodial sentence. 4/ Posession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, which carries a mandatory minimum custodial sentence. 5/ Firing a weapon beyond premises. If anyone points anything which looks like a gun at you, you call 999. You are not trained to tell the difference between a BB gun and a lethal firearm, for your own safety and the safety of everyone in the region you should assume the worst. I was shot at a year or so ago, the Police went straight to "was it a bb gun?" as if they were looking for me to excuse the actions of the shooter. My answer, I could not identify the gun with any accuracy from 70 yards away, but bbs don't normally travel that far unless the gun is modified in which case it's an illegal firearm.
