  1. Ive read your blog,Carolyn does the hard work
  2. Ha Ha he didn't rev it hard enough.Retired?at your age. How did you manage that?
  3. Make sure you donate to his crowd funding appeal then.We all know your big on encouraging entrepreneurs. Depending on how much you give he could maybe advertise Carolyns delicious devon scones
  4. £75,000 ,how about some crowd funding like the bloke on the cycling repair thread lol
  5. I don't know if you are aware but a full listing of the boat complete with pictures and price is on their blog, so I can't understand the secrecy though of course I understand your position. They even freely ask for phone numbers and email addresses of potential buyers.Respect their privacy indeed.Apollo Duck?
  6. I remember Milton Keynes Marina when the new owner first took over, one morning on jetty 1,a one eyed Albanian rolled up with a roll of chicken wire and started to nail it to the wooden pontoons to provide a non slip surface.Does anyone know if its still there?I left soon afterwards as I objected to the 100% mooring charge increase,I understand its now populated in the main by people on housing benefit or people new to boating.
  7. Well said Kriss, I have been to the doctor for the savaging he gave me earlier
  8. Yes Wow indeed. It was the spurious argument over planning laws as the reason for shelving the General Towpath Permit that irked me. I know the usual suspects are going to now post that they weren't spurious, but if you are on a "site" and I am 50 yards round the corner I can't believe questions are going to be asked in the house so to speak Your desperate to find some advantage to having a winter mooring ditch crawler lol. When I had the General Towpath Permit last year the checker told me that the boat drops off their system for the duration so that is why he never checked it.This I assume would no longer be of benefit to the boater for as soon as he left the official site he would be non compliant after 14 days. You are suggesting cruising in a confined area on the basis of having a winter mooring nearby,it could be done as long as the 14 days weren't exceeded but a bit pointless unless you knew you were going to be iced in and quickly nipped nearer a water point
  9. I think slob mentality would have done without the council house prefix and as regards exemplifying an attitude I think it says more about your attitude than that of the council house tenant
  10. You are a little bit like me I fearbut I'm glad my dad came,he told me this morning he has been reading about the reopening of the American Display at Duxford Air Museum, hint or what?
  11. As Dave P said earlier, its a matter for the local council to despatch a housing inspector.I remember Tony Blair brought in Frank Field with the brief to think the unthinkable,Field came up with many thoughts, one of which was to link council tenancy to the ability to keep the property in order.Blair sacked him. "Council House Slob Mentality" thats a bit of an unfortunate and inaccurate phrase, slobs are not confined to council houses,In the sixties and seventies I was raised in a council house and looking back the sense of both pride and community is the one thing I remember. No woman would ever have left her step unwashed for fear of the neighbours talking about her. All a bit warm beer and cricket on the village green,I know. I can't understand why the OP asks who is responsible for H&S in a marina and suddenly it becomes a DIY thread and if you don't agree you become a mollycoddled lazy council house dweller
  12. Its not my Marina same way as its not my house, crafty carper?pointless carper!! Thats why we have H&S law and all the rest of the legislation. For example,do you think an employer supplies safety footwear because a) he cares for your feet b )he is compelled to. Thank God we are not at war you would be saying bring your own gun. Anyway I have risen to your bait so enjoy
  13. Wouldn't have guessed that.Your the one raising the past. Strange world when I pay for a service to be supplied then do it myself.Someone rents from a private landlord, water pours through the roof, you really do talk some rubbish
  14. A capitalist owns a marina where I moor a boat, its my responsibility to maintain it for him?
  15. Its hard to believe we had two thirds of the world under our control, nowadays you couldn't find enough Englishmen to invade the Isle of Man
  16. Cant believe your serious with that post
  17. Thanks for that,it was very kind of you to say it and i,m doing as you suggest Thats good to hear also.I knew there was more to you than smelly fish
  18. Some lovely posts on here, especially with all the upset and turmoil going on everywhere, getting older is the thing I guess
  19. I know it does, I am already looking in the mirror and seeing my father looking back. I found out yesterday from a fellow boater that he had tea with her,he never mentioned it.Two or three walkers I see on the towpath are asking "did your father get home safely" What you met my father? Im thinking. To be honest we have been estranged for thirty years and its only since mother passed away we have got closer. My sister told me he has been watching Pru and Tim on TV as he didn't know what to expect, that nearly brought a tear to my eye.
  20. I recently had my father invite himself down for a week,78 years of age and don't get me wrong it was great to see him.I have the house also so I don't really do visitors on the boat as a rule and at 70 foot I am not pushed for space but it was the inconvenience and hassle of it all.Firstly I had to interrupt my cruising to come back to Milton Keynes for a week so I could be central for him, mindful of course of the present enforcement climate, then there was the food,I went to Waitrose as you do,but old people don't eat a lot so most of it was binned, then the commandeering of the TV remote control,News24 and really it was literally news 24/7,then the organising of days out, entertainment, introducing him to the latest girlfriend,I ended up needing a holiday myself at the end of it. Where am I going wrong?why am I so stressed.Love you Dad........
  21. Couldn't have put that better myself, just walked round to the Plough at Simpson (backs onto canal) closed. Ended in Wetherspoons and there is probably the reason why, decent food, cheap beer, standing room only
  22. Thats a bit strange is it not? good to stay on the right side of who?
  23. Don't you think its a strange title for a thread, why would you want to congratulate CRT? perhaps its indicative of how low our expectations have become. I am genuinely not embarking on a CRT bash, its just there doesn't seem much to be enthusiastic about.I am still annoyed about the winter mooring situation I guess
  24. Don't bother paying manufacturers prices for replacement,go to a glazier like city glass and they will cut you a piece make sure you tell them what its for i.e. heat resistant.Around £5 to £6 for my squirrel.Overtightening of the small clamps on the squirrel can cause this,I don't know how stovax glass is retained in the stove.I don't know about tempered but it does crack rather than shatter in my experience
