  1. But divided by 20 perhaps not too onerous for each individual. I'm not sure what the alternative would be. Getting all 20 to agree to this might be a bit of a tall order though.
  2. I know. I don't expect anything to change any time soon but I am hoping that some, maybe not much, will find its way to where it's needed. I've seen the flood warnings.
  3. I think there might be some on the way now!
  4. Due to close 21/7/25 but the latest from CRT is a warning that they may have to close Napton to Cropredy even sooner. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/01981dd8-6dca-7b71-821d-03fea856abbe
  5. Gets my vote. Though, to be fair, so would a large (but not too large) increase as long as it resulted in noticeable improvements. I'm not sure what too large would be for me. It's more about VFM than affordability.
  6. It's a couple of weeks since I was last there but a few days ago someone on the forum said they went through and the pump was operating again.
  7. I don't think I've ever wanted to get back after lunch at The Folly, all I want is a kip! The trip back to and down the locks has to wait until the next day. I'm still a bit puzzled why there needs to be such a tight restriction, or even any restriction, for a short flight where water is pumped back up. Perhaps the pumps can't return enough or perhaps it's too expensive to run them for sufficient time. Or the gates leak too much. Or some combination of all the above. Anyway, it's just a slight inconvenience, there are far worse things going on and even if the locks were shut I'd still come to the boat as the marina is such a nice place to be.
  8. Thanks Tim, I wasn't aware of those two moorings but I was aware you weren't a big fan of Thrupp. As far as the OP goes though it's still a non-starter and I wanted them to know that as others have suggested Thrupp as a potential (and attractive) option. I have been thinking of putting my name on the waiting list for a while but the flooding from the Cherwell last winter has put me off a bit. More importantly, the wife is rather less keen than I am!
  9. Regarding Thrupp, it should be noted that the moorings are managed by Thrupp Canal Cruising Club and are leisure moorings for their members only. There is a moorings waiting list of several years and you have to pay a deposit to go on the waiting list. They are not live aboard moorings and there is a strict limit on the amount of time that members can spend on their boats at their mooring. The only live aboard boats are those occupied by the wardens so to live there the OP would need to 1. Apply to become a TCCC member and be accepted by the committee at their next meeting. 2. Apply, and pay a deposit, to go on to the waiting list for a mooring. 3. Accept whatever mooring is offered to them after several years. 4. Become a TCCC warden at the next available opportunity and then carry out the unpaid duties required of a warden. If I remember correctly there are 7 warden roles, 2 of which entail long hours so those wardens are unable to have jobs.
  10. Next year? I thought you and I were both about to sell up? Ho ho ho
  11. On balance, I still think they don't intend to stop navigation for boats already on the summit at the time this comes into force. However, they haven't said that but they have said ""we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the Leicester Line"
  12. Can of worms well and truly opened!
  13. Did it not do it before Archie and the Greeks?
  14. I followed one of those much of the way towards Braunston the Saturday of the rally recently. It was so slow I had to keep dropping into neutral and it was all over the place including frequently being on the wrong side. When we walked from Wolfamcote to the turn it was moored before Puddlebanks. Later on, as we walked back from the marina to the turn, they were heading towards the marina with parade boats coming the other way. If I'd had the time I'd have stayed to watch what I assumed would be chaos. I felt a bit sorry for them at that point.
  15. Beat ya! Just.
  16. Lloyd's Register ?
  17. It's 25 for some insurance companies. Maybe most of them.
  18. I'd forgotten there was a hire base down there in the basin.
  19. I see you only joined this forum a couple of hours ago so, if you haven't already, I would suggest you spend some time looking at the various recent threads about stoppages and low water levels. Most or all are probably in the Stoppages section. Drought, low reservoir levels and hosepipe bans are currently big news in this country but the impact on the canal network much less so as most people are unaffected by that. I don't know if you already aware of any of this but I very much doubt it will register on the radar of most people in the US so it's possible you are completely unaware. It's important you familiarise yourself with the dituation to some extent before making decisions on a booking location. It's very unlikely things will have improved by 11 August.
  20. Oh dear! We are currently in our most serious drought situation for many years and very large sections of the canal network are either under restrictions, closed or soon to close. I'm mainly familiar with the midlands area where two very popular routes for hire boats (the Oxford Canal South and the Grand Union Leicester line) will be shut down by this time next week. Other sections may follow unless we get a lot of rain soon. Other folk can advise on other parts of the country. As far as I'm aware the two options you mention aren't affected (yet) but I don't receive notifications for those so I wouldn't necessarily be aware if they were.
  21. I would have thought so but the CRT map implies that it is staying open for navigation.
  22. There's nothing in your post to indicate when. I'm assuming it's not this summer but if it is you should be aware of our current drought which is resulting in various sections of the network being shut down one after another by CRT to conserve water. There won't be much left soon at the rate it's going.
  23. Lot of boats up there as well with 3 large marinas. I'm not sure what harm they would do if they went boating on the summit. I know you can wind above Foxton and, I think, above Watford as well. Similar for boats at Fenny Compton marina, as long as they are short enough to wind above Marston Doles top lock. It makes me wonder if CRT are going to tell all the affected marinas to put stop planks in place.
  24. This seems to imply total closure for navigation, not just locks. The latest update for Napton to Cropredy seems to suggest the same. Does this mean boats with home moorings on the Oxford and Leicester line summits will not be permitted to move from their moorings I wonder. If not then it's ambiguous / misleading.
  25. They might consider it's worth doing that if it could get them out of being liable for a huge bill.
