  1. Thanks my email is leeparkinson07@yahoo.com he definitely was I used to love going having a few pints with him . Have you seen the video on YouTube with him on ? If you type in Trafford park documentary from the 1970’s it should come up . the bloke with him is my grandad earnest Parkinson and the bloke you see steering with a tiller is my father Thomas Parkinson.
  2. Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago I would love a copy of it did you also have a picture of my great grandad which is on your book ? .
  3. Hi I believe you used a few of my uncle John Parkinson’s pictures for the books and was wondering what ever happened to the pictures
  4. Calder was scraped in the 80’s got pictures of that and atherton on the bank at Wigan being cut up
  5. That’s a long time ago but is a very good picture. We do like to get our foot down in the deep
  6. She is currently on the river weaver with the parfield parbella iris Abbott and Sara Abbott
  7. my grandfather cpt Ernest Parkinson and mate john Parkinson on parfield ,my father cpt thomas Parkinson and mate Walter simcock on parcastle ,uncle cpt Ernest Parkinson jnr and Thomas Blake on the parbella ‘ cpt Charlie woods and I think it was his son on the paradine not sure of the dump barge men .my father Thomas switch his stuff over to the iris Abbott on the day the dukers finished and went down on the river weaver carrying salt and chemicals until abbots finished in 1978 his mate on the iris was Sam smith .After my father finished on the river weaver he became a lock keeper on the Wigan flight and lengths man of the Leigh branch of the Leeds and Liverpool canal until he retired of ill health in 1998 and he lived on his old lifeboat until he passed away . My uncle Ernest went on to work the floating 60ton crane on the Msc until his untimely death at the age of 35 . Charlie woods as far as I know finished his working life still employed by the msc. Hope that helps
  8. Would be nice if we could get a picture off attractive. Parbold is down south somewhere
  9. Calder and at atherton where scrapped side by side at Wigan in the 80’s .
  10. It was my grandad who took the last load into Kellogg’s with the parfield . The parfield was loaded the week before they finished . it was my grandads official retirement the week before and because of all the union work and time he had been in the dukers they wanted it to be him to take the last load .My father had the parcastle and my uncle had the parbella on the day they finished
  11. I would say the motor barge setting off is the parfield as my grandad used to paint the decks in red oxide. Parderry was scrapped a few years before they finished as she had an accident and stoved her bow in possibility she hit the bull nose of a lock my dad said he was on his way back to Liverpool for another with the parcastle as he noticed a duker coming in the distance when they passed the wheelhouse was leaning over and the bow was pushed back to the winch . Parelia was dragged out at pamona docks for scrapping a month or so before they finished . Pimblotts also built 3 of the dumb barges arlymere radnormere and tattenmere . The discharge at hulme locks was for the factory across the canal and not Kellogg’s and was mostly Abbott’s barges that unloaded there .
  12. Hi everyone just want to let people who might know my father Thomas parkinson sadly he passed away on Friday the 5th of January. A bit of info on my father he was born at the side of the Leeds and Liverpool canal in 1944 near adlington in Lancashire. He started on the canals with his father and siblings as soon as he was old enough to walk and used to work boats in his summer holidays . Once my father left school he started work on the bridgewater and Manchester ship canals on the duker barges .My father became a captain of the duker parcastle until trade finished in 1974 at which point he took over the barge iris Abbott running from the docks at Liverpool to the river weaver carrying goods for the ICI . After his days on the weaver he started work for British Waterways as the middle lock keeper on the Wigan flight and later as the lengths man of the Leigh branch and also operating plank lane lift bridge until his retirement . When my father retired he moved into his ex ships life boat and up until his death could be seen around the Wigan and Leigh area mostly by the lift bridge at plank lane . If there is anyone who would like to contact me regarding my father and or his funeral please contact me on this number ‭07793487196

  19. Bloody hell didn't realise I had opened a can of worms on the subject all I know his his first name is sunny and that my friends name is reg of the boat RM I am not interested in his index number I have other things to worry about . I just find it out of order the way they are treating people ?
  20. The boat is called RM he as had to moor on the bottom of the Rochdale canal they said he can't even pass through to join another crt canal
  21. His name is sunny and is the manager of Preston brook marina who was appointed by peel holdings to patrol the canal . He banned my friend off the canal even though he had a gold license and had only been moored up for an hour when he turned up banged on the boat and said your taking the piss and his wife filmed it while my friend went mad at him over his attitude then peel banned him
  22. H&R Ainscough barge restoration project is holding a boat rally on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of June . There will be a number of heritage craft there including the newly restored Leeds and Liverpool barge George. There is a social event on the Saturday night at the cricket club by the canal with a band and food available . Also there will be arts and crafts vintage cars the open day in the old stables with plenty of old pictures and people dressed in old canal ware . So please come along have a few drinks with us if you would like to reserve a spot please ring 07966439701
  23. They had only been on the canal for two days at this point as they where sailing from middlewich to Wigan but didn't realise that Barton aqueduct was closed . In total they didn't stay on the canal for the full 7 days . It seems to me as they are just trying to fleece the boaters who do bring trade to the local areas .
  24. I have been told by my friend that peel holding are trying to charge people £40 a week to sail there canal . My friends where moored at the back of the Trafford centre in Manchester waiting for the Barton aqueduct to open when they was asked to pay £40 to peel holding . Is this going to be the norm from now on? . If it is going to be the norm should CRT do the same if boats with there licences wish to sail off there canal
