  3. Interesting! So perjury only applies to criminal court cases? If that is the case that means that in a civil case that you are likley to lose, you have nothing to lose by falsifying whatever you want in order to try and win. Nothing except perhaps your reputation that is. Or does the judge have anything they can do if you are caught out?
  4. Does falsifying evidence come under a similar crime as perjury if they actually present it in court?

  6. That's true; we fed a couple of swans back in April when we were in Harefield, they followed us all the way to Macclesfield before we finally managed to give them the slip. We thought we had lost them on several occasions but every few days they would be waiting in ambush. The other half says they are different swans but I know they are not. They have the same long necks, bright yellow bills, beady little eyes and a insatiable appetite for bread which they are prepared to mug you for. Don't feed swans, they are evil, and better trackers than bloodhounds.
  7. There's an idea, let's start a campaign to introduce cruise through pubs. The drinking and boating thread could take a whole different direction

  9. Moor up outside each pub you pass on your travels, take a photo of the boat outside the pub with you on the boat holding up today's paper in one hand and a nice cold pint in the other. This will not only prove that you cruise it will also give you all the necessary research should you choose to write a good canalside pub guide. It's a win, win ???????
  10. Out of interest, if you haven't got cheese can you use a Dairylee triangle?

  12. A great deal of common sayings in the English language come from nautical or military terms and sayings, do a Wikipedia search on Sweet Fanny Adams, disturbing but also enlightening. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_Adams

  16. Ah, that makes sense now, I got confused with using the button that brings up this info is also the one you use to set the battery temperature
  17. I installed the BM2 earlier this week but I'm a little confused at the battery temperature reading. 95 degrees seems a tad high. When I fitted the BM2 I also got around to fitting the temperature sensor for the Tracer solar controller that I fitted last week. All I did was run the probe to the batteries and wedge it in between two of them and plug the other end into the Tracer unit So on the one hand we have the BM2 that only takes a guesstimate at the temperature at 95 degrees and then we have the Tracer that has a probe fitted actually measuring it at 28.6 The instructions for the BM2 say how to enter the engineering mode and set the approximate temperature. I just took a look and it is set at the default 20 degrees Had a good run today and fully charged bank, these readings are taken at least an hour and a half after stopping for the day. Can anyone shed light on why the BM thinks my batteries are steam powered?
  18. Having looked into this I think I will give up on the idea; the boat would need a total refit to make it work. I did toy with the idea of disconnecting the calorifier and bathroom rad and only having rads on one side of the boat but unfortunaly the header tank is on the wrong side also. The pipe that feeds the header drops down to floor level to cross the boat. I can't fit a new header the on same side as the electrical cupboard is in the way. Perhaps in a few years time I may do a full refit
  19. Ok so this one may be a bit overpowered ?
  20. That appears to be a rechargeable torch and runs on batteries, usually won't run whislt plugged in. Batteries won't last long. The one I posted is a 12v powered spot lamp, runs of cigarette lighter socket. I had one about 20 years ago when I did some cab driving, brilliant at lighting up door numbers. Halogen lamp that has all the power you want whilst running the engine. Will get very hot though.
  21. I would like one of these. But not at this price http://www.piratescave.co.uk/portable-halogen-spotlight-12v-55w.ir?src=froogle&gclid=Cj0KEQjw0rm-BRCn85bm8uS-zK0BEiQAHo4vrCdTp9jV0w4ducilKCG0Pq78t5mZzfxYANyKJv1j_T4aAlRN8P8HAQ
  22. If you do get the tube fitted it might be an idea to get the wiring done also. This will save doing it later. Make sure that it is the correct wiring and of the right size. Make sure it is clearly labelled at both ends.
  23. There are plenty of threads on here that cover this subject. Regardless of what anyone has to say about it the choice is up to you, if you want one get it. You will get arguments along the lines of, you don't need one the traditional boatmen never needed them. Of course the other side of this argument is that the original working boatmen also had a horse but soon got rid of it when engines were available. I've even seen arguments to say that using one only shows poor boating skills. So what not everyone can control a boat perfectly, and in certain situations a bow thruster will be of help. It's a bit like saying that a car doesn't need power steering, you should be able to steer with rack and pinion. I think you will find however that power steering makes it easier. Personally I think if bow thrusters were freely available 60 or 70 years ago all working boats would of had them. Why make life difficult. Having said all that, no you don't need one. The question should be do I want one?
  24. Perhaps breadcrumbs so they can find their way home
  25. Worried about the wash from large boats? Take a look at this
