  1. What a lot of good sense as I have never understood who many livekrboards choose cruiser sterns, it also depends on how much money you have as my preference would be trad tug (sleeping under tug deck) if you have serious money and a converted ex working boat a la A. Fincher, very trad with masses of room although maybe not that much cheaper in all truth
  2. Third party insurance covers salvage. Given there is likely to be a substantial excess either way there is no point in insuring it other than third party unless of course you wish to waste money, which is your perfect right of c.ourse.
  3. No particular thoughts either way but they do seem to be not the most r liable bit of kit. I am our board s bow thruster btw.
  4. This appears to be the way to go, ta Mr Owl
  5. Please note that any survey mentioned was done for and is the property of the vendor and is of absolutely no benefit to you. You should always get a survey done before you start negotiations to buy. It is almost always the case that you can get the costs of a survey back off the purchase price. I concur with all the comments above, all from mightily experienced boat people.
  6. On reflection and following examination of a sample of the existing cable it just might be that voltage drop might be part of the answer. although this will not solve the fragility issue
  7. That has given me food for thought and it is likely that led is not the way to go. I had hop d that there was a way of updating the 80 year old light for the following reasons Current performance not that great and neither are my eyes Bulb very fragile it appears Trying to save as much electrickery as poss. As only have a dynamo as source although this is a somewhat fatuous thought as we have no other use for electrickery apart from starting. Fairly substantial cable to light btw although voltage drop will be investigated. I certainly have no wish to blind anybody but certainly seem to be having great difficulty seeing through th smoke and fumes
  8. Thanks for that, I had not realised that they had gone on the bank. Previously I had tried to catch up with them about several other matters but Toño avail.
  9. Any thoughts on where I can get a high power led build suitable for fitting to a vintage Lorry headlight that we use a front light on our boat. I have a two pin adapter that fits the original bulb holder
  10. Not what I ant at all although that is my fault as I should have said 'led bulb" and perhaps I should have posted this in Equipment
  11. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  12. Blimey might have a go at that, being its nice and local. I wonder who would give me a reference ? Possibly one for J Duck esq ?
  13. Any thoughts on where I can get a high power led suitable for the vintage lorry headlight that is used as our headlight. I have an adapter for the old bulb holder with a two pin connection
  14. I was not talking about turning a lock.......a totally different matter indeed
  15. You beat me to it, fantastic moorings all along the straight. We got there about 1700hrs, no boats about and there were lots of people about all pissed and this went on until we were well out into the country where even quite respectable types in suits had plastic bags full of wife beater. As you say what is it all about? Had to front up a gang of piss heads at the lock by the football ground to escape. This was a couple of years ago so it might all have changed
  16. Cracking a paddle is a term of art, It does of course mean open the paddle fully
  17. Given the very interesting thread about leaving gates open esp.from James, Alan and Tam what does the assembled company feel about cracking paddles for following boats.
  18. Ipswich is moored in the marina and is lived aboard by a couple who have done l the restoration work. The reason that it was not on show was that they. Have cats and it was felt that it would be a little 'unwise' to bring them over Gorse is currently undergoing equally painstaking work, just having returned from Graham at Stockton (it is the front 34' btw)
  19. Ricky is the most amazing friend and companion and despite his issues he has recently had several 'light bulb' moments and We are now beginning to trust each other so much so that he is able to come off the lead more often. That is not to say that he did not come off the led before and now we are at Alvecote we have discovered what an ideal dog environment it is and the boy likes nothing more that a blast up the towpath opposite the Barlow (well sleeping 22 hours and going to the shop excluded)
  20. uote name="Chertsey" post="1876058" timestamp="1472832490"]Swimming lessons, now there's an idea. What does that mean? Neither of us can swim so how will that work?
  21. Last August, when going through Blisworth I was confronted by a f****** lunatic with 6 forward facing car type spotlights, 4 mounted on the roof forward and 2 in the steering position that appeared to be on swivels. His awful, chavy 'kidz' were deliberately shining them at the on coming boat. I am afraid they blinded me and I 'accidently' rammed them into the side, shame . I wished that I had the Francis light that I had on Warrior, it would have been no contest.
  22. I think another potential issue is headroom as I note that your son is 6'4" and it is depressing to say the least being stuck on a boat permanently hunched up. It looks like a converted ex working boat for you my lad, you and Mr Fincher both.
  23. The Swan is a seriously crap pub. The last time the Great Helmsman and I were in there we were served our beer in glasses straight out of the washer, almost too hot to hold and with soapy residue still in the inside. When I objected they said I should go without then and refused to do anything about it. I should be a really good pub surrounded as it is by serious drinkers living very close. What it needs is competition and for their customers to be a little more demanding.
