  1. It’s with a bit of a sad thing to say, but today the management(C.V. Marine) closed the showers in the facilities. Having put up the mooring fees, Electric prices for berth holders and stating times are changing. They’ve found there’s no alternative to put in a pre-pay token shower system. Problem is they’ve closed it full stop to Moorers and visiting boats, Just asked why there couldn’t be be an instant switch over? C.V Marine not bothered or not intelligent enough. So no Showers at Sheffield. The Moorers take it will be weeks before the switch as they’ve heard all the “Gunna” before 😂 CV. Marine in Sheffield are a total Joke. I take it they’ve little interest in their customers(moorers) elsewhere once they’ve got their money?
  2. Looks like another year with no routes and restrictions in/out of SYN through Keadby.
  3. Yes, was just saying Bramwith has been like that for years, looks like Mauds will be the same for years to come. Another one for @PeterScott “On this day 2029 Mauds Swing Bridge” compare with 2028, 2027, 2026, 2025, 2024.
  4. No issues with the operation of the Bramwith swing bridge, it’s only a couple of miles along from Mauds swing bridge, you never know they may repair Bramwith one day, as I say been like this for years.
  5. Bramwith Swing bridge has had similar looking damage for the last 5 years plus. CaRT have made no attempt to repair as has little impact on safety or bridge operation.
  6. I don’t know what discussions Boat clubs or Marina’s can have with CaRT that would have any sway with CaRT to prioritise these stoppages??? The South Yorkshire Navigation has had stoppage restrictions for the last two Summers as have been highlighted on here and Boat Clubs or Marina’s have had no influence on how quick CaRT have repaired the stoppages and re-opened the system from what I’ve seen.
  7. It’s ok, I was only messing. Have a relaxed evening.
  8. Lots, I think you should be asking the OP, as I’ve got absolutely no interest in widebeams or Amsterdam.
  9. You might be better off asking on a Dutch Barge forum? As people on here will have little experience with a standard canal widebeam if that’s what your talking about on the Dutch canals. Your best bet would be advise from @Tam & Di I imagine. Good luck.
  10. A Vlog on living costs for a year like their previous one. As they say everyone is different, but a relatively sensible account of costings involved, highlighting it’s not as cheap as people think living on a Narrowboat. Unlike Dotty’s, Tristan and their new puppy Teddy’s account in the press. These seam the typical new boaters that are now coming onto the canal, due to the high house prices and increased cost of living.
  11. Not really, all depends how much you use them obviously, lead acids don’t last forever. I change mine every four years as they just don’t hold charge as good, I could keep them for longer, but would be running my engine while moored to recharge a lot more.
  12. On their TikTok they say their Marina Moorings are £400 per month and with other costs all adding to a total of £575 per month.
  13. Did anyone actually believe they were genuinely in for the long term? They played the game to suit themselves, can’t fault them though in doing so, set them up well to do other things in life. There’s lots of Newbie mugs out there on the canals with composting toilets because of their Vlogs and lots of Vloggers thinking they will be the next Foxes afloat. Good luck to them and hope they’re enjoying their new lifestyle.
  14. Yes I thought that too, but not knowing the original thickness gauge it might still be ok. Have seen some thin gauge Stainless being used on boats compared to mild steel.
  15. The causes looks from the photos that the top edge of the flue is not sealed( 1st photo) flue actually looks a bit short in the collar, as Tony says this needs to be re-sealed but will need to be cleaned of build up first, as he also says the roof collar could also need resealing.
  16. Where? and I don’t mean on the canal, any links to the published article? As the Sun seams to run regular articles on young kids moving onto boats to escape the high cost of living on land, all seam to look the same and all living the dream.
  17. I take it those photo’s are looking down from the roof collar? Knock the build up of crap off the collar and repack the flue/collar with fire rope, nothing permanent like fire cement, as the flue needs to move/expand when hot. The flue looks like it could be a little short, I would of liked it further up the collar and more packed.
  18. I was talking about Semi-Trads in general, I prefer Trads, then again there’s only me, I imagine your’s will sit 4 people comfortably, anymore then that it will tight or the steerer will be outside.
  19. I’ve too have always thought that Semi-Trad sterns aren’t the most comfortable places to sit with high inward sloping sides and reinforcing box section roughly head height. Also with a more restricted view of the scenery, especially looking forward when seated compared to a more open bow section with side seating lockers. Having 4x people in one area could be a pain when approaching locks, as if they stood up to see what’s happening or to get ready to disembark it could hinder the steerer’s view and actions. How many times do you see the woman sitting at the front and the men standing at the rear?Sometimes they have their own agendas to discuss and gossip about. Whatever stern or bow you have the design will have pluses and minuses, like all boats. I’m seeing more boats with @IanD shell being built then a few years ago and more built then cruiser sterns, so getting more popular with his shell builder’s customer’s it seams.
  20. I would of thought if a boater they would be on some form of floating aid. I also wouldn’t be wearing a dress watch, but something more rugged, so it can withstand knocks as I often do whilst on the boat or locks.
  21. There were 5 here the other day, now just the dead one, don’t know where they’ve gone, maybe Tinsley way?
  22. Dead Swan floating around the Quays, non of the authorities are interested DEFRA or CaRT, even though only 50ft away from CaRT office, they’re just sitting on their ar$e’s as usual with no interest in dealing with it, even though it’s been reported to them several times this morning.
  23. Is your boat that good that it’s going to be the only boat people view and will be fighting over? Reading all the problems you’ve had with it, I doubt it. As when I last seen of it, it was in grey undercoat.
  24. As you say they need rotating 90 degrees, what is holding the box section that the mount is sitting on in place, is it just the mount bolt to the right going through the original bearer?
  25. This may be the best fitted bearer, looking at the rear of the photo, is that the other engine mount, looking to be mounted lower and more on top of the original bearer without the added box section? As you say the alignment could be way out, the engine could be mounted too high with the addition of these box sections. Without lots of photo’s and detailed info, the forum can only speculate on what they see and that is one badly fitted piece of steel section supporting an engine mount.
