  1. Today’s view with the bars in the distance on the left with Orange awning, not a a working boat train or crane in sight.
  2. Most of the Arches are Best Weston Hotel to the left, then sandwich shop, CaRT community/volunteer office, a snooker product/research office with full size snooker table, A&G Passanger boat shop, a bar(Dorothy Pax) and finally another bar/eataree(True Love) No brokerage going on now mainly all leisure moorings. The Marina office is now the old CaRT office by the swing bridge opposite side, unfortunately not open a lot with no contact details or opening hours displayed, which sometimes is frustrating and confusing for visiting boats especially with a fulley signed up CaRT office more prominent. Getting there slowly.
  3. An old photo from when it was busy and the railway and Arches can be seen in use. Most people in Sheffield don’t know this place is there or know any historical facts about the canal basin. So good to see someone taking interest in the local history.
  4. Have you left enough gap for movement through your roof collar for heat expansion?
  5. Who paint’s their boat with Dulux? Oh not me I use Wilko. Are you for real? I’m talking about professional paint suppliers not high street bargain outlets. You get what you pay for Wilko’s??????
  6. It’s always going to be difficult to get an exact match as obviously boats are outdoors in the sun and more prone to UV paint fading. Even when you have the same paint in a tin that you used a year or so ago it will not look the same once you put on the old paint. You just have to blend in the best you can and live with it or repaint the whole panal. That’s why I mentioned Jotum Conseal Touch-Up as they say you don’t have this problem and it matches in.
  7. Maybe analysing has got a bit more accurate these days, as this company seam to be very accurate with matching. https://www.ultrimaxstore.com/
  8. You can always try a commercial paint supplier, if you take a sample they can analyse it and tell you the exact colour or match. They may charge you a small fee or offset the cost if you buy some paint off them.
  9. There’s a paint by Jotum called Conseal Touch-Up that is an exterior low sheen paint suitable for boats that should suit your needs. It looks like an undercoat but is fully weather resistant. The good thing is that it is easy to apply with a roller and easy to touch up as just blends in unlike high sheen gloss. Have a look on their web site. May just be what you need. Link below. https://www.smlmarinepaints.co.uk/topcoats/single_pack/conseal-touch-up I wouldn’t use an additive as some don’t always work with certain paints causing them not to harden properly, always check and test.
  10. It’s not the locks but the swing bridges that seam to cause the problems on the L&L. No matter which way you go once your past the A&C/ SYN electric/commercial locks you will be hitting manual double locks, you’ll get used to them and hopefully the dog too.?
  11. Johnathan will do the shell and you can get S.Ellis boatfitters to fit out for you. Steve and Johnathan work side by side with each other and Steve will fit out to any stage you require. S.Ellis will also fit out any shell of your choice to completed boat, if you get it delivered to his shed, if you want a specific shell builder and not a Wilson shell. Just give either a ring to discuss your requirements.
  12. I know but it represents cheaper boating for the masses, like the original Model T Ford, as they say “you get what you pay for” also bespoke doesn’t always mean quality, it’s all down to the shell builder and who fits it out as you know. All these people that complain after they bought a new Collingwood weren’t complaining about the price when they bought them were they? maybe they should of thought what I wrote above “you get what you pay for”
  13. They must be doing something right as I would say Liverpool/Collingwood shells and boats are the highest percentage of boats on the canal system.
  14. Everyone who is in the know, knows you don’t buy a new Collingwood, but you buy one 2-3 years old when all the snagging jobs have been done and sorted? I take it all those Collingwood owners that were going to protest bought brand new within the last 2 years and probably a 60x12 Euro-cruiser.?
  15. I know, I wouldn’t even bother doing Keadby to Nether, just that I had to deliver a widebeam. I would just overnight at Torksey as it was painfully slow the last few miles and luckily I was under a Canopy so sheltered from the sun and sitting on a cruiser stern.
  16. I did this trip last year, managed to get from Keadby to Stoke lock on a widebeam. I would push it as best you can from Keadby as it was very slow going the last 4ish mile into Cromwell. Also the forecast is sun this weekend so keep hydrated as it’s a long day on the river. You’ll be ok outside Nether but you might as well just go through to Newark, maybe busy though being Bank Holiday.
  17. Not if it’s bee reported stolen to CaRT with the lock keeper at Selby. If it’s indeed stolen I would be heading to Knottingley, Castleford, but it’s quite distinctive having passed it a few weeks ago going to Thorne so it won’t be hard to find as it does stick out.
  18. Open towards Pollington but restricted passage from what I hear, passage through Sykehouse by lock keeper???? No access to Goole still closed so as you say not hard to find, my bet would be Knottingley or Castleford area.

  21. Alan “cut’n’paste” de Enfield?
  22. According to the first page of the new T&C’s there is more then one licence, six if I read it right. A pleasure boat licence is for boats with a home mooring, there is also a different CC licence for boats without a home mooring. So obviously the powers have determined they are different licences and you must comply with the licence conditions as you say or as I say I’m I misreading it.
  23. I image that’s a very small percentage, a simple solution is they increase the fee they charge the farmer and if he has no facilities it increases, or if he has facilities he gets a reduction. There are thousands of boats in Marina‘a that very rarely or never leave and there are hundreds of CC’s coming onto the system every year for that cheap lifestyle, so why should they not pay extra for the increased use of CaRT facilities?
  24. Good point. Maybe a CC license should be a lot more, as they uses CaRT facilities more then a HM, as HM’s use the Marina facilities more then CaRT’s which they obviously pay to the Marina operator not CaRT. With all the CC’s coming onto the canal especially around London and the South East it could be a lot of extra revenue for them. Then they may be able to fix the Elsen disposal points and invest in Compost toilet disposal facilities they all complain about being closed or not having on here. Maybe it’s time the CC’s paid for what they use more.
  25. If you scroll down to the bottom of the first page in “New to Boating” you will see the Post below, then keep scrolling and you will find more answers to your questions, your not the first to ask.
