  1. Will see if I can find the video of this episode.
  2. The one on the towpath watching the shenanigans as Scorpio hovered whilst waiting for the butty Leo to appear. Blossom had to beat a hasty retreat at that point.
  3. Not often I see a photo of me preparing to take a photo of Darley (or any other boat for that matter)
  4. Many ex hire boats follow the Black Prince style of layout and generally have reliable (and well used) systems installed. Engines could have high running hours but are usually well maintained. No hire company can afford to lose £1500 to £2000 per week in high season because of poor maintenance. Ours bought 2 1/2 years ago is an ex hire boat with a Reeves hull and Isuzu engine and has performed well. There are many Diy improvements that can be made so that the boat is tailored to your needs. Ours was a 6 berth, now converted to 4 berth with the L shaped dinette removed, Captains chairs and fold down table installed in its place. Of course solar panels have also been fitted which cover our charging needs from March to October. Find the right boat (at the right price), ensure you have it surveyed and enjoy.
  5. Go up the T & M to the M6 bridge between Wheelock & Rode Heath. Doubt you would get disturbed there on either side of the canal, except by passing boaters.

  9. Must admit to being bilingual with imperial/metric. Originally an imperial guy but changed to metric during my apprenticeship. I have no problem in measuring in metric and quoting in imperial or vice versa

  12. Or go back to my earlier post and have a double pole isolator between the panels and controller, Belt, braces and safe working practice. Fusing the battery line is a must but not always accessible in a hurry.
  13. Unfortunately, that is what you get from committee's
  14. I would not be that harsh. For the cost of a battery isolator switch it is not a bad idea for safe isolation without fuss.
  15. I would suggest that the solar input to the controller would be better with a double pole dc isolator in line, guaranteed isolation should your blanket slip or get blown off. With regard to the isolator on the output, this would be better to be a battery type isolator.
  16. Installed 340 watts of solar last year and saved a fortune in diesel, I reckon by the end of this year the investment will have paid off. My only problem is from March to October, too much power and not enough storage. What a good place to be.
  17. If you refer to all of item 4.4 in the report it does mention the possible worse case scenario of the need for draining of the marina and all boaters to leave for the duration of the works and boaters were informed 12 months ago. What I do find hard to believe is that the marina was constructed without adequate sealing not so long ago. Again the report does acknowledge this with the fact that HCA are investigating the original warranties associated with the design and construction.
