  2. I think a wee bit more information might help you get replies. Sleeping arrangements? will crew sleep on the boat or will they have to find accommodation? If sleeping on board, how many beds does your boat have? eating arrangements? Will you pay for and provide food or will your crew provide and cook their own? How many hours a day do you want to cruise? All daylight hours or less? Will you pay your crew ? Some of these questions may sound a bit cheeky but I don't think folk will volunteer unless they know what they are volunteering for 🙂
  3. Is your kitchen finished? I would love to see photos of it. It sounds great.
  4. I don't think kelpie minds being left for months - with some hopper windows open for ventilation. Apart from some internal doors (wood not MDF) having expanded a wee bit, that is. They soon get back to size after a couple of days heating from the Squirrel.

  6. You are not really helping your case by ignoring questions put to you about what distance away from Boothstown would be acceptable. With that information I am sure you would have had some locations suggested. Your aggression while ignoring questions will not get you far.
  7. Oh, who is in danger of tripping over a rope lying at his feet 🙂
  8. Its not a case of hating working locks more a case of age catching up and help with locks is welcome. It will come to most of us 🙂
  9. You were brave filling up with water just outside the "hairpins". 🙂 Any time we have been there there has been a hose fixed to the tap and lying on the dirty ground. As we couldn't get that hose off we didn't take on water there. We have had no problems mooring in the hairpins and although there are usually a couple of what look like permanent boats there the rest were visitors. Nice quiet mooring unlike through the first lock of the nine where there is an almost constant footfall and there is not much distance between your boat and the wall. Ok for a night though. It used to be good when you could moor round past the pub though.
  10. What water point are you using? It looks highly suspect to me !

    Licences

Fairly standard now with most things. If you need to make a change mid term there is an admin fee.

    Licences

I know but you could always give false info :-). The question here was "do C&RT have the right to check insurance details?2
  18. She has had articles in the last couple of Canal mags - Canal World, I think. I too had missed her regular stories of her exploits.

    Licences

Presumably C&RT only check insurance details if there is some doubt about them . For example, if a customer is being investigated for something else. Also, if a boat sinks and C&RT are involved in raising it, they need to check/communicate with the insurance company. I don't see them checking everyones details. In Scotland they ask to see a copy of your insurance certificate every year. But there are not so many canal boats up here.

    Licences

We got this letter too as our licence is due on 1/4. Fairly straight forward we thought. If you haven't changed your mooring, no action needed (C&RT will have seen your boat at your declared mooring so they presumably don't need anything else unless your marina is not regularly checked and they MAY need you to provide proof of mooring in the future). If you are a new boater or have changed marinas, you need to provide proof (a copy of your contract presumably). Apparently when we get the bumff about renewing our licence it will tell us how to provide proof of our mooring if we need to. Presumably this will be able to be done on line by attaching a copy of your mooring contract to your account details. I dont see this putting much extra work on C&RT as it will presumably be done automatically. No proof of mooring = continuous cruiser licence
  21. I wasn't thinking about the person wanting to use the car park but the car owners who live in the pub. If members of the public were allowed to park overnight their response to "where is the car kept ?" would have to be in a public car park . However, if no cars allowed to park there overnight they can say "in a private car park" I think this would have a bearing on their premiums. I appreciate that for punters to park there for one night wouldn't affect their insurance and that is not what I said 🙂
  22. I don't know but I wonder if their own car insurance would be affected by the fact that is is a private car park as opposed to one open to the public. I think where your vehicle is parked when not in use has a bearing on your premium.
  23. The article was abut the boat which broke free from its moorings and ended up across the river at a bridge. Not the Kegworth lock sinking It was basically the article which was on here with the video about raising the boat
  24. No idea what day it was! The day Iain nabbed a pint it was busy with lots of walkers outside. Any boater going during the wet weather would be advised to moor below the lock in view of the mud bath above it 🙂
