  1. I must admit that I discourage my dogs from liking water! They have all been able to swim if necessary but a soaking wet dog in a boat is not good news 😀
  2. Don't think it is but nothing to stop a vet having this condition. Hopefully they would treat the dog after the owner agreed to it being microchipped. A job which takes seconds and I don't know if it still free or not.
  3. It would be good if vets wouldn't treat a dog which hadn't been microchipped but I have never heard that before. Or are you suggesting that this should happen. Not sure from your post 😀 It is up to the new owner to update the microchip record when they acquire a dog from a breeder or rescue centre.
  4. At present the law states that all dogs must be microchipped by the breeder before being sold and I know that the SSPCA, RSPCA and Dog Trust make sure every dog they rehome is microchipped yet we still see posts about dogs being found and not having a microchip. It is all very well introducing laws but unless there is a means of reinforcing them, they are a waste of time.
  5. I think Covid has a lot to answer for. People who had never had a dog before bought one as "it would be nice to have company when taking our exercise". Because of Covid many dog training establishments were not open and the result is a lot of dogs who don't know the boundaries and behave badly. These "new" owners seem to think that is OK dog behaviour. We live in an area popular with dog walkers and we see a lot of this. Re dog licences. While I agree that it might help how would it be enforced? Responsible dog owners would buy them but others probably wouldn't bother. The Police have no time to do all their duties now so how would they cope with checking for licences? Vets as a profession decided not to check for microchips so who would do the checking? No point in introducing dog licences unless there is some method of making people comply.
  6. I read a well researched article recently about Bully dogs and apparently the reason why they suddenly become aggressive and attack other dogs and people is because of a gene many inherit There was a dog , Rambo, in America which had been aggressive but because he had the heavy build which was sought after he was used at stud indiscriminately and in fact his sperm was frozen and is still being used. There was even breeding with close relatives - brother/sister, father / daughter etc which increased the chance of a dog having this gene When the breed was imported to the UK about 2014 the dogs brought in had the Rambo gene and because there were not so many of the breed in this country there was much close relative breeding. Research has shown that this gene can cause a dog which is normally placid to suddenly see red and attack. When I see photos of children with one of these dogs my blood runs cold after reading this well researched article.
  7. I have heard that grabbing a dog by it's b*** (manly bits) makes them let go if they have hold of another dog. Never tried it though 🙂
  8. As a dog owner I and my friends hear it all too often "he just wants to play" when their dog comes bounding up to mine. If I get the chance my response is "how would you like it if I rushed up to you and started being over friendly with you?". These are owners who usually have virtually no control of their dog and the idea of recalling it is foreign to them. In the last couple of years when my health has not been brilliant I find that if a dog rushes up to me my dog will "see it off" as she protects me. She doesn't touch the other dog but the barking and flashing teeth get the message across 🙂

    Licences

    and you believe them ?
  10. I am puzzled. What is a market styled boat? Not a term I have heard before I think
  11. Perhaps your friends anxiety is caused because he is not totally sold on the idea of buying a boat.

Don't think you will find many moorings at £1200 - 1500. Perhaps very short boats..We have been paying over £1800 for a basic marina which is one of the cheapest..

    Licences

Just pondering. While it will.be easy for checkers to find that a boat which has been licenced as a continuos cruiser is in amarina it won't be so easy to check that someone who has said they moor on the marina is not there and is out continuously cruising. The boat could just be out for a trip. the only way would be to cross check the marinade records with the C&RT ones. A time consuming job which I don't think.is done at present i think all that the checkers do in a marina now is go round and check that each boat is licenced.

I think we all know this and while thread drift I don't see that this post has anything to do with composing stuff being put in an elsan .

And block.it with the partially dried stuff from the compost bin ?

Anne from NABO has just put up a link on FB showing the results of the consultation at https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/original/48477-appendix-b-boat-licence-consultation-summary-report-board.pdf?v=a355c2&fbclid=IwAR0iSIYteo3im_l1nkBhQL3ycFta0rS4930edH4195yRfgk-Xt8Ewa0J8xQ Sorry don't know how to make a short link 🙂
  18. Ah, sorry, I thought you planned to replace the work surfaces with black glass looking stuff not just have a cooker with a glass top which I agree is quite popular. On Kelpie we have glass tops over the cooker and sink and I can't remember ever putting either one down but I do remember trying to clean them and the little bit of work surface behind them 🙂 .

    Licences

It says they will be "reduced" but not by how much. I think they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they make these discounts less attractive as folk will probably stop paying their licence on time.
  20. Just had an email from C&RT telling us that licences are going up on 1/4/2024 and that they will go up more than inflation for the next five years. Figures will be announced in November but boats without a home mooring and fat boats will have their licence increased. It looks like all the discounts will be retained. Although this is pretty much what was expected, it will be bad news for a lot of people.
  21. This going to be an expensive galley refit! I am assuming that a black glass top will be expensive and will it not scratch easily? If you plan to sell your boat in the next few years the price is very unlikely to be increased by as much as you spend on the galley. Just a thought as you often imply that you think all your improvements will increase the selling price by the same amount. I would think that is unlikely but it would be interesting to hear from anyone on here who is in the boat sales business.
  22. You often say that you plan to sell your boat in the next few years and with this in mind I think you need to install burners, grill and oven. This may be your plan but I wasn't sure in view of this post 😀
  23. Thank you for explaining how things look from your perspective but I think part of the reason why you may get what you think of as adverse comments is because of how others on the forum "see" you. Since you joined, there have been many instances of topics where you have given us the benefit of your wide knowledge at great length and this gives the impression that everyone else is wrong. I am sure this is not what you mean but that is how it comes over. This and the fact that you seem to be so knowledgeable on so many subjects does perhaps make those of us with lesser knowledge of many subjects react a bit to your posts.
  24. Mink are afraid of nothing and will stand up to a person or even a big dog. When we leave kelpie in the marina we always leave the tops of the windows open for ventilation and I have often worried in case a mink got in. No evidence of mink in the marina but they do move around a bit.
  25. I thought stern bands were the bit below the counter, not above it . Like our boat, the stern is low in the water and two stern bands are not visible so a bit pointless painting red or white
