  1. Well done Max..fab..will leave those who know to provide advice..I've given u x2 green thingys one for each post....
  2. I wish you well. Molly was about 12 when she first went on a boat..she loved sitting under the tiller though i always had her secure as she was a bit daft....she only barked when anyone wandered to near boat at night..in fact having her was great because you knew all those strange noises were ok as she ignored them. Although on deck she would stand on a box my mate made me(I am quite small and he thought it'd help me see when driving) and keep watch..she'd sound off when other dogs viewed. I loved time with Molly on my boat...enjoy.. She didn't like locks or tunnels and I would secure her inside during those times with somewhere to hide her head..her solution to those worries!
  3. I know nuffin about gas fridges but would this help Max with her consumption dilemma....or is it to expensive to convert re getting in the pipework or whatever feeds them? I guess having a light on all night if they are the more power hungry ones is a draw which means engines just gotta be run more, so leccy lights have to be sorted to those that don't want so much battery juice. I am sure the collective on here will be able to advise best way forward... Meanwhile Skipton calls.... I hope sun shines and waters calm.... Enjoy your day
  4. Sadly this probably accurate summing up..have a green thingy
  5. Hi Max.... You are doing OK...I know nuffin much about batteries cept they freaked me out occasionally when I had boat, stuff thats not easily to understand can be scary. If u keep a light on then you will drain then and keep needing to run engine. U obviously need one light thats not so power hungry as those you have for overnight..Im sure those who know on here may be able to suggest summit. If you get new batteries you will still need to keep them charged You could soon store stuff outside when weather gets colder thus eliminating need for fridge till next year...I used to turn mine off most of the time in the winter months. Keep smiling...
  6. Hi Max..we all have lists...mine gets bigger and bigger as Horror House throws more and more hissy fits...she's chucked wood off the walls and a load of the new plaster in one room so I had 2 options...get upset or shut the door..door shut...however in your boat you don't have option 2 and Option 1 ain't so good either..tears = more damp. Have 2 lists..one for essentials 'must do' and the other a sort of wish list for as and when..keep plodding on you will get there. Concentrate on the jobs that'll make winter bearable and then when spring here is time to sort out other stuff.
  7. I'll continue 'off topic' to answer this ..stem injection amazing results..it died within weeks last year..regrowth much smaller and not large enough to repeat stem injection..has been sprayed..anticipate another year of spray and area 9 metres from boundary will probably be just about clear. None in my garden now.. Apparently treatment here had best result of any she had done..we believe this is because i followed up treatment with bonfire and burnt all the dead stems and crowns that i managed to dig out. My knotweed pyre could be seen from top of hill. Digging out crowns is best as they can regrow..takes lot to zap them However if the treated area is cultivated or soil disturbed knotweed may regenerate. The most you can do is push into dormant state but the dormant state can last years. Though having said that there are areas that the root system is dead and rotted. Fascinating subject and a war I may well win! I am considering extending treated area next year as it was so amazing. Swansea is worst affected area in country and I firmly believe in doing my bit where this invader is concerned.
  8. Thats Ok..I knows a little..but not a lot..but Im quite happy to share the little I know. I used my drill to make big holes in plasterboard in Horror House which I then had to fill in to disguise from folks who criticise so I then used it to drill holes in Knotweed stems to fill with weed killer....So u will find a use but don't just drill holes anywhere cos there might be electric wires under. Be very careful and ask on here first..there are (whispers) men who know lots. I can see why u used black bitumen..I brought a tin of that to use on my roof but changed my mind and gave it away.

  10. Max I don't know much about painting boats but I suspect a drill may not be the best gadget. I know its very tempting to have a go with whatever to hand but just maybe wait until those who know lots come along to give advice. Ive used lots of gadgets for stuff I shouldn't and its easy to mess up. I think its hard work painting boats..I think you have to sand down all the old surface and winter months too damp for paint to dry ..maybe best plan would be to let it all shed off over winter and deal when the sunshine comes back. Concentrate on what you can do now... You are doing great....

  12. Crikey...thats one lock I'd never wanna do...
  13. Well done..you got there.. I think with the stem/stern issue just ask the lovely people on here to use pointy end and blunt end..no confusion then.
  14. hope you are recovering..take it easy and don't rush things.. boat looks a awesome project to work at.

    Eels

Local lads used to leave them in carrier bags outside my grans house..she was partial to eel and they'd catch them at the Old Mill in Oundle....I guess she probably paid them I dunno..I was only very young
  19. We sold some scaffolding poles at dads farm sale...come collection the guy couldn't get one longer one to fit with the others so he bent it into a boomerang shape to put in the back of his mates transit....I lent him dads hacksaws(they broke) but eventually with many words I cannot possibly repeat on the forum, littering the air, job accomplished...I often wondered where this C shaped pole was used. Charity docks had large scaffold arrangement last time I passed so may well have spare..
  20. I don't think internet forums have had their day or I hope not. I do now delve into a few more, but mindful of what Ive seen here, I am careful what I post. I think the somewhat dictator style approach to certain posters has not been in my mind, fair play. In fact the way some members dealt with seemed very unpleasant. Some posters no doubt offended in their style of posting but we always had the option not to read or engage in those threads. Banning for period of time could give us all relief from threads we didn't have to read anyway, though i do accept personally directed poisonous comments are upsetting and unnecessary. Some posters did go what to me seemed too far but what followed ...namely a cull of any who overstepped whatever line had been drawn in the sand in retaliation was in itself a step to far. I do see moderators give their time freely and that having to keep 'alert' for those who are out to stir troubled waters must be time consuming. 2 wrongs do not make a right. As to face ache..for me it'll never replace a forum. The trivia on there inspires nausea.
  21. I can understand u being close to tears...our pets are our family Keep going, u will get there
  22. think he's RIP so u needs must appropriate blame to Mr A N Other
  23. At least you know where you cat is..you'll have to lurk tomorrow Good luck with getting him back
  24. Daylight now so off you go... enjoy....
  25. I learnt by scraping my boat, misjudging stopping distances but I didn't have another to criticise..Little sis refused to handle tiller at all despite fact I was not bothered about scratches..she simply had to do all the running around. When the guy who fitted her out helped me move boat he just left me to learn having instructed first and that was the best way. He'd sit in front and every so often his head would appear to wave some direction..what I got wrong I sorted. When daughter "had a go" she misjudged significantly on one occasion but didn't pass any comment apart from telling her sometimes one just had to let boat do its stuff and carry on afterwards and I gave her back tiller immediately post event. Loud or prolonged criticism destroys confidences and then you feel on trial with every mistake noted....if thats how it is no wonder women won't have a go.
