  1. I recall you on the Ribble Link .....Are you SURE lumpy water is for you..... ENJOY..
  2. For what its worth, I have recently ordered a oil conversation kit for my Rayburn No 1. For years I have had solid fuel for the Rayburn, but the glamour of wood cutting, coal heaving and dusting is wearing thin.. Hope to have it installed before end of summer.
  3. Mack. Check with Arnie, he's going down around that time,..
  4. I agree, 4 hrs with a single crew member working the locks is not possible in todays "maintenance free" regime. More like 5-6 hrs.
  5. I did the flight single handed last time. At lock 3 I called CaRT out to assist in opening the gates, with two of the top gate paddles open, plus one ground paddle ( the second ground paddle was inoperative ) The leak on the bottom gate was such that it was impossible to open a gate.. By the time CaRT's stalwarts arrived, I had enlisted the assistance of a team of Rugby players, and with four stout men on the beam, they just managed to open a gate. Have fun. P.s. Lock 3 is NOT the worse.!!!!
  6. Last time I came down (10 days ago) the flight was not locked.. You will need a handcuff key, a lot of patience and even more strength than Charles Atlas.. Take great care as several of the lock " self empty". Providing you can fill them !!! Enjoy.
  7. I could be wrong Patrick, but I think the River Douglas was accessed close to Deans Lock, not Apperly.
  8. I have some knowledge regarding the latest incident of this type on the L&L . It had little to do with the boaters, but rather more to do with the fact that the bottom gates could not. And did not hold water. CaRT had been made aware of this particular problem weeks prior, but.. Damming as it seems, they did nothing..
  9. I'm surprised that with your ATTITUDE you managed over 500 posts.
  10. There are locks on the Lancaster, they run from the main line to Glasson Dock... If you "miss" locking, you also " missed" those..
  11. mervyn1234. Are you sorted for assistance with the flight? I will be taking my boat down around the same time, perhaps we can share the locks and locking.. PM me if interested. Trento (Riley Green Marina)
  12. Just to clarify and for my knowledge. Martin. Are you not the man who while irritated, is not bothered by the irritation? Or is that also a load of bollocks.?
  13. I for one hope not.. Having met Tree, I can assure those with "proper" grammar thats she' one of the most natural, genuine and kind hearted people you could wish to meet. And if her scribbles offend... Dont read.. End off..
  14. Me....????? And I'm handy... Next boat along...
  15. As I understand the situation, May Gurneys base contract with CaRT does not include debris removal, removal can be effected as a priced option. Information given in good faith.
  16. I have it on good authority, its for the fisher folk...
  17. I assume the cables in question are burried in a loom with just two free ends available.Check thst the earth cable from the battery is connested to the boats steel work. Lightly stroke one of the free cables on a clean steel area. If there is no effect, you have the negative wire. However, if there is a spark, you have the positive wire.. We are talking about a stroking action with the wires on bare steel.. And NOT prolonged contact with the steel.
  18. Come up to RG.. for a practical demo on my boat.
  19. By far the easiest way, would be to go to CaRT office in Wigan. The booking and any alternative travel dates can be completed over the counter.
