  1. Not a lot you can do on top of engine & gearbox oil & filter apart from telling them to fix the drip and bilge pump.

  3. Zopa is where I keep my stash. They have a max of 5 years currently at 4.8% which is £187 per 10k. All done online and not secured. Actual mortgages seem to be non existant these days whith Royal Scot Larch packing up that part of their lending.
  4. Cannot believe you need A.C in France in December. I'm in southern Spain and we need heating not a/c.
  5. Been looking at boats recently with a view to buying and something occurred to me which I don't have an obvious answer for. When looking at hull thicknesses I see the common one is 10mm but there are others ranging from 6mm right up to 12mm or even 15mm. Sides are nearly all 6mm with very few being 6mm. Now somebody will tell me I'm wrong in thinking that the most wearable part is the waterline. If that's the case why is the side the thinnest part. From what I've found out over the years, a boat is replated usually because the sides are badly rusted along with the counter. I would think a 10mm base is a good selling point against a 6mm base, but is it a false sense of security. Surely it's not the base we should be bothered about, more like the sides which are nearly all 6mm.
  6. Premier inn or travel lodge at east midlands airport. Very central with some big sales pitches not far away.
  7. Not familiar with your setup but at 30 years old or more it gives me a thought. Does your starter have a bendix arrangement in order to engage. i.e. is the engagement done by inertia? That could be your problem. If it is it will be worn out teeth and easily fixed. If your teeth are always engaged then you don't have a bendix type starter. If you want to see a bendix type starter look here LINK Lots for sale or repair on ebay. P.S. Don't anyone come back and tell me they have false teeth and they take them out at night so they are not always engaged and must be a bendix type. LOL
  8. Have had one or two that had to be formatted by the device you record from (TV or Satellite Box etc) before they would work. If you record using the TV menu then format it from the same menu, likewise for any other device.
  9. I don't think anything is faulty, just not as it should be. Is your TV an older one? I suspect the formatting of your stick is not as the TV likes it. i.e. it could be ntsf or fat 32 etc. Best solution would be to reformat it using the TV's own menu. Hope that helps.

  16. It can but if you have much mail or parcels you could easily upset the marina manager. Freelance Gigalo might fit the box. lol
  17. Having been a maintenance fitter for many years and coming across many belt and pulley situations I know the feeling. I suspect your alternator is one of the high output ones rather than a smaller 45 amp job. The problem with powerful alternators is they needs lots of power to turn them when there is a big load on. I suspect also that you have a standard vee belt. In the past where lots of torque is needed I have changed to a different type of belt, like a flat multi grooved belt or a double vee belt. Obviously you would need to change both pulley wheels and this may not be possible but for what it's worth I try for a double vee. If you can take both pulley wheels off and take them with the belt along to a stockist of belts like Bearing Services Ltd they will sort you out with the pulley wheels and belts. If you do go that way you should always buy the belts as matched pairs.

    Horny :)

    Here you are. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Fog-Horn
  19. I use zopa. Over 5% and as safe as I need. Money is easy to get out given about 3 or 4 days. Best thing I ever done. Also handy if you need a boat loan at a really good interest rate. I think they go up to 7 years but not sure on that.
  20. You'd have to be very short sighted to miss the Asland lamp. Time to give up boating if you are that short sighted. LOL
  21. Don't think you'll get up to date info by using an app. I have a couple of the apps you refer to and some of the stuff is years out of date.
  22. People on here are sceptical and rightly so due to so many dodgey ads. I think this one is genuine. It is advertised by someone not into narrowboats but certainly into yachts and that's what is throwing people off.
  23. Always found it pretty near instant.
