  1. however, small sub section or not they exist, like them or not they exist your view or my view doesn’t matter they exist, and they would/will exist regardless of the NBTA, there is an existence of boating communities and whether you or I belong is irrelevant, whether you or I like it or agree with it matters not a jot, they exist,
  2. Having seen what I’ve seen crossing London over the weekend, I’d say boaters’ communities do exist. Whether good or bad, positive or negative, like it or not, whatever. In fact there’s probably quite a number of communities mingling together. It’s a proper eye opener down there. In many ways I like it. In other ways I don’t. Trouble with me and you Arthur we like our own space and wouldn’t dream of being in ‘the thick of it’ (for want of a better description) and neither would we (I think) want to be part of a community. Hackney Wick looks interesting enough to stop over for a week or so on my return journey. I think it was St Pancreas that looked interesting too.
  3. Today, Stanstead Abbotts, Lee Navigation. No boating today but a rest with ESB instead 😋
  4. Here’s me thinking that’s exactly why I pay for a license, Always considered paying a license covered mooring up, amongst other things, As you say how will any further charging be policed?
  5. Nice to see they’ve smartened up the bank and moorings along that pound 👍
  6. This is a tricky one, prices can vary and quality can too, but if you buy from marinas it’s all pretty much of a muchness and of course you’ll pay a couple of quid a bag more (maybe) I’ve been budgeting £160 for the month, and that’s worked for me, We’ve not had a very cold winter, if we had had then I might have had to spend another £40 on that cold month, but it’s felt quite mild at times and I’ve let the fire out at night and not relit until following evening, where as when it’s really cold you keep the fire on 24 hours a day. past years I’ve scavenged wood here and there but didn’t bother this year, in a nutshell: expect to double your budget for fuel, oh, you used to able to set light to proper coal easily with a rizzla paper and a twig, now nothing wants to burn!

  8. Got them to look forward tomorrow, when I did the Stockton flight this morning I stepped off boat and left it to drift in as usual but didn’t bother with a rope/line and the boat came up lovely and gentle hugging the side, I retrieved a rope as soon as the cabin was high enough, Just a little thing, but not having to faff with stepping off with a rope, trotting up the steps flicking the rope over the gate and wrapping it around a bollard made work just that little bit lighter, only opening one paddle of course and waiting til the boat had drifted up to the top gates so it weren’t drawn forward with a bang from the open paddle, Im sure I did the Hatton flight like that last time I went up, and I doubt very much I’m the first to do it,

  10. not so sure about that, last two full time jobs I’ve had employers have readily accepted family address, an address no where near the county of work, the important one is the correct Bank details and address so you get paid on time, talk it over with your employer, tell them what you’re up to,

  14. I don’t know, all this thinking and over thinking makes me head hurt, I’m kinda glad I’m able to move about and not care, Nothing makes sense
  15. Exactly so, nor is to do with usage, it’s simply a way to scam/grab/demand a bit of easy money off an easy target because the shysters (CRT) have not succeeded. Only just realised one can greenie oneself or looove oneself
  16. It’s dead amusing, kind of, there are folk out there who know how to swizzle the tax man and whoever but are getting really stumped looking for the ‘angle’ on this surcharge. A surcharge which is Fk all in their scheme of things. I feel for the fat boats mind.
  17. I’m not sure where you’re coming from with this, but with myself, if I have bought a year license no home mooring, and then took on a mooring for the winter, say less than 6 month, whether it be end of garden or marina I’d just have to suck it up and pay, wouldn’t I?
  18. Push start ? 🤡
  19. and the rest frittered away Who said that? (or similar words)
  20. all good fun, I’m sure after using the water point today the wind will try to pin me to the pub on the otherside. I’ll try my best but might have to give in to it 🤷‍♀️
