  2. Afraid I have had the "Internal Server Error" 3 or 4 times this afternoon. Arthur
  3. One additional thought. Whilst your Craftinsure policy may not have alternative accommodation cover it may well have legal expenses cover (lots of policies have this as an add on). If so you may well be able to use this to pursue the matter. Arthur
  4. Looks like one of these http://uk.farnell.com/welwyn/wh50-2r2-ji/resistor-50w-5-2r2/dp/9508295
  5. Sounds as though this may be a job for Bizzard - telescopic boat pole???
  6. Not sure that's a good idea Bazza - the note says : Note - The handrail has to be cut it cannot go straight through the bracket.
  7. Don't know if this is acceptable for BSS but there should still be some of these around - they were an Aldi special buy a week ago. http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_24576.htm Arthur

  11. Morning Ange, Yell says nearest one to you is at 4 Glenthorne Drive in Walsall WS6 7BZ - just over 3 miles away. Wish we were there! Arthur
  12. Barge Vulcan Goole worked for me Peter and this is where a lot of the info appears http://www.clydesite.co.uk/clydebuilt/viewship.asp?id=22726
  13. I booked my VHF course today and was speaking to the instructor at the time and mentioned that my understanding was that it was illegal to use the radio until such time as I obtained the certificate and he said that is so "unless it is an emergency when anyone can use the radio". I would have thought, therefore, that you should be safe to listen in and if an emergency arises use the radio. Arthur

  15. I'm also on VM and had the same problem for ages Martyn but was never able to get to the bottom of it (it was always working fine when I got through to the VM callcentre) until one day they eventually agreed to send out an engineer. He took one look at the old cable modem I had, swapped it straight out for a new "superhub" and I've had no problems since - I recommend insisting on a visit from an engineer. Good luck! Arthur
  16. Well today was the day Google's new privacy policy came into force - could that have something to do with it?
  17. Sounds as if your best bet would be some sort of aquarium pump - they're designed to run 24/7.
  18. As I'm new to this can I watch? (tee hee)
  19. OK - need to show even more ignorance now! Should we specify/ask for a particular type of blacking?
  20. Thanks Mr Smelly - any and all info/advice helps. Next question then is this - how long can we expect the blacking to last? Impressed with the speed of reply - nice to know there is someone out there ready to help a newbie with little knowledge. Arthur
  21. Hello all, New to the forum having been scrutinising posts for a week or two but now need some help/opinions from the experts! Looks as though we are about to buy our first nb - it was surveyed today and the verbal report from the surveyor is "OK but there are definite signs of rust, needs blacking; nothing serious noted but wait for my written report". We are under pressure from the yard where it has been surveyed to give instructions to them to have the boat blacked whilst it is out of the water to save ourselves the cost of a future lift - the following questions spring to mind: 1. How can we instruct anyone to carry out work on a boat that does not, as yet, belong to us? 2. Is it normal for the purchaser to pay for the blacking? 3. What would be the expected/average cost of the blacking (it's a 57' boat)? 4. Should we insist on waiting till we see the written survey report? Any advice gratefully received. Arthur
