  1. Yoda - which one? Sorry - I'm being lazy, better go look at the links above!
  2. Many of the electrical threads have taught me how little I know, which could be the mst valuable lesson. I've enjoyed following them with a (very) lttle bit of comrehension. What I really don't understand though is why some people seem to try and find personal insults in others posts so they can reply in kind. If you don't like something read another thread, don't insult the poster. I'm with the "come back Chris" brigade.

  4. When I had a dog, admittedly a few years ago, I never had any problem taking the dog on buses or trains. Except she liked sitting on strangers knees after a swim
  5. Perhaps Tim could post a picture here - if it's really bad perhaps some peole on here would have more sympathy.
  6. Does this mean I couldtake 10 passengers and 50crew?
  7. In the circumstances you seem to have two choices - fix it yourself or move(and probablypay more). It does not seem to beBW resposibility as it';s effectively a private mooring. May be tough but that's what you get for private (cheaper) moorings.
  8. Like Bottle I am selling the house to live on a boat. Several years, hopefully, of enjoying life instead of the daily drudgery is well worth the risk to me. I know it wouldn't suit everyone but it's a sailor's life me. Please don't mention 'burning my boats' -too close to home
  9. 15 to 1 then - oh, and me. 16 to 1!
  10. The latest news is that a body has been found near where the empty boat was. Not confirmed but it seems like the chap fell overboard. The boat is a cruiser stern with low railings arond the back. Perhaps another case of railings making a fall worse - i.e. fatal.
  11. The only disused canal in the Halifax area is the Halifax arm of the Calder and Hebble which is filled in and having walked the route I have seen no sign of any past tunnel (except a long bridge under the road at Salterhebble). The old route of the canal is built over in some places which may hide the remains of a tunnel. Just a question - why ask?
  12. I agree with fuzzyduck, provided the company make it plain who they are. The input could be useful. I thought that was reasoable comment from craftinsure.
  13. I am planning the fitting out of a sailaway, and the plan includes a boatmans cabin sort of space even though it will be on a cruiser stern. But this is not an attempt to follow tradition. As I will be living aboard as soon as I get it, I think I can fit out a stern cabin as basic living space quickly, before spending a year or so on the rest of the boat. Once fully fitted the cabin will become a day room and ocasional guest room, which I hope will prove good use of the space. Colin
  14. Signed, but have you sen how many people want the ice cream juggling?

  16. I'm with Bottle. Sell up and sail. So there's no way back into the property market, but how many threads on this forum have said living on a narrowboat is more expensive than renting a flat. OK so if your bothered about the kids inheritance (I've not got any ) you will be spending some of it but if you have to give up the boat - rent a flat (or crawl into the nursing home!)

  21. I have read somewhere recently, though having searched I cannot find it, (perhaps I read too much), that a certain engine - 43hp if I remeber right, has a problem with faulty pulleys destroying belts. Could this be the problem and can anyone else find the thread - I think it was on this forum. (Daniel - you seem able to find any thread needed - help).
  22. I had a similar problem a few years ago when I reported a local copper for abusive behaviour. Three in the morning outside my house, he appeared to be arresting a young lad but the copper was shouting and swearing. After 15 minutes I got dressed and went out not expecting the noise to be from the police, waking up the whole street. After I made a complaint, I was stopped and breathalysed almost every time I went out in the car - seven times one week. I was lucky, a friend of mine was a local inspector and I went to him. The harrassment stopped. John, take it to the top at once. Don't trust them not to find something to get you for. They stick together and care little for your rights if they think they can get away with it.
