  1. wishing you the best of luck with the survey and the baptism by total immersion. Google my name (if you can be arsed) I hit the water last January! And have cruised ever since. If you pass scrutiny have a pint at The Wharf for me and another at the Bridge 111 at Napton.

  2. Been reading your posts on canalworld. You have now got as far as thinking about Lee/Stort? Think "Hazlemere" but shhhh! I'm there at the mo but passing through. Join the Lee&Stort group on facebook or contact LadyMuck on here by private message to ask for contacts and/or advice. Hazlemere has ready access to M25J25 via A121. The peeps along the Lea are the salt of the earth.

  3. Sorry no greenies left today! absolutely adore your observation "I was at that Tring CaRT meeting and noticed an odd fact. That number - 267 - was also precisely the number of trees identified as dangerous in the Southern region." Stats are like that.

I'm sorry I missed both Tring AND Barby/Crick as I was in the wrong place at the right time or vv. All the high numbe...

  4. To change you password, click on your own name (guelrose) in the top right corner of the screen This will drop downa menu with "my settings" as the second option. Click on "my settings" and when the new page comes up chack the options on the LEFT of the page where you will find "Change Password". As long as youknow the opld one you're in LOL

  5. Right! Welcome to this madhouse. I'm a nobody but last year I did what you have done now and signed up here. It's great forum as long as you can seperate the dross from the nuggets.

  6. Read you post ref lady who wanted tobecome a liveaboard. Rock of sense. Your reply should be cast in stone!

On the water you pay for everything, licence to float and move, permit to moor, to empty the bog tank - everything.

  7. "establishment press tapping phones of the establishment politicians and the police who are now through a formal enquiry by the establishment against the establishment of the press trying to create a new stablishment blimey I've had too much red wine already. I prefer to think that on the basis of the truth never got in the way of a good story .. " BRILLIANT OBS. BRILLIANTLY PUT. I...

  8. Amazing how some boaters know how many miles how many locks how many days they've done. Me I amble along if I like a place or the people therein may stop a day or a week explore the hinterland. 3Locks 3Days. Fenny Stratford a week, landlord of The Red Lion is a great Guy. "The Canal Junction" at Bulbourne for amazing food, staff AND clientele. Blakes of Berkhamstead amazing hardware...

  9. Fudd if boat complies with BSS your bottles will be outside main cabin and no risk. If outside (in a dedicated holding area) there will be holes at the bottom to outside of boat so any gas which leaks off at the connection will fall into the cut. You can buy proprietary sprays for leak checking. I use a simple domestic spraygun which once held window cleaner but now holds fairy liquid and water

  10. I'm not DRIVING to Tring good buddy. I'm sailing there on Pentargon, having previously toured down from Barby. That's what canal users do isn't it?

  11. Wot's the Lea like as a hiding place in Winter. Is it inclined to freeze over in Winters? Or change levels excessively in the rainy seasons. I'm gravitating south from Norton Junction and was thing of holing up there for the "Winter" as my home base is in Furrock.

  12. Put "Jim Shead" into google and on his boat listing site put in either the name or the number of the boat you are looking at. It's not entirely reliable Pentargon is REALLY 1973 but is shown on the listing as 1976.

  13. How are things with you? I'm moving slowly south now that the oil impics are drawing to a close.

  14. Ally I was up to my gunnels getting Pentargon ship-shape when I got a bit ill and had to leave off a lot of things for a while. So I missed your friend request til now. Still not sure how much time I'll have until life settles down about mid-sept.

  15. How long does it take to get a 36' Springer bottomed? From start to finish? 6weeks? Luckily I'm allowed to overnight on her so for time being my pillow is at Hillmorton. There is brilliant work being done dough (I know good welding when I see it) but at less than snail's pace. Good news is I may get to see steamer "President" pass through tomorrow Tue24Apr enroute Stoke Brue...

  16. The sense of urgency at boatyards has to be experienced to be dis-believed. I've spent a leap-year-month hanging around Rugby waiting for a berth at Grantham's Bridge to have a whole new bottom fitted. Having said that, Rugby people of all ages are among the friendliest I've met in England to date. Had some great chats, enjoyed the month immensively. Now let's hope that bottom g...

Crikey five weeks have passed and I'm at Uxbridge. Car out of action near 'Hampton didn't help. Also the very nice ales and company at The Red Lion. The climb to Tring Top was a bastard but the celebratory dinner at The Canal Junction went down a treat.

Early Nov. sees me through London having overnighted at such exotic locations as Alperton Sainsbury, the tube station at Paddington, Noel Street Islington and the Olympic Park in Stratford. When does the cruising season end for CCers?

  18. i'm still trying to figure out this site. i got your message but truncated as you exceeded the maximum number of characters allowed! BTW, if you need experience and training there is a terrific charity in Harlow called the Canal Boat Project which only asks in return that you give ten days to them in a year and they will in return trainyou on a fleet of four one of which is 68' long...

  19. Just noticed you hope to be on the cut in the next month. I hope to add to the water level myself before the end of the month. Welcome to this madhouse and unless you've been a lurker here and know the form take eveything with a [considerable] grain of salt. enjoy

  20. 1.1.12. Found my boat (or more correctly she found me and allowed me to put a deposit on her, got moorings sorted for 2012, insured, survey due (12thJan), paid for survey slip AND blacking, did my CCC, got time on 5 boats from a 25'dayboat to a 68'barge via a 36' Springer, learned heaps from canalworldforum. Now if she passes that survey on 1oth I have a cheque in my back pocket for...

  21. Hiya Lady Muck and thank you for adding me as a friend at canalworld. So what do I do now? Mostly I'm interested in learning about canal boating and touching base with users esp.36' Springer owners.

  22. I've dived in to a full lock by developing a relationship with a 36' Springer. Now I'm treading water and hoping to avoid liver fluke and Weil's disease.

  23. I'm new to canals, new to narrowboats and know very little, so please be gentle with me?
