  1. Edited to delete my reply because I am responding whilst I am still angry and that is never a good thing to do.
  2. I have just spotted another post with someone in a similar position to myself. I did not receive the renewal notice for my boat licence nor any form of reminder from C&RT this year. I have been patiently waiting for it to drop through the post box but nothing arrived so I gave them a call today for them to inform me the reminder went out some time ago and now I have to pay more as a result (no prompt payment discount for me this year). I am steaming at this as I always pay on time and have no issues with my mail as far as I am aware of? Can anyone tell me if I can challenge their decision in anyway? I have contacted their customer services but failed to get the response I had hoped for. I don't feel like letting this go as I don't regard it as my fault.
  3. We have a set of Philips Imageo's, they are rechargeable and give a nice ambience.
  4. Not if H&S have anything to do with it they won't. Manual handling regulations are 25kg limit for a singleton isn't it?
  5. Reasonable prices for the trips given that this will be the only way to navigate the Cromford via narrowboat in most of our lifetimes. Prices are £6 with some concessions for OAP's etc. The trip will take about an hour and a half but have been delayed because of nesting coots in the winding area. Now due to start taking trips in September. There is a half tonne of batteries powering that thing and with the full weight of the passengers and crew I hope it doesn't ground. Although recent dredging has taken place the canal still doesn't look that deep in parts to me? edited to add a hyperlink to the Friends of CC http://www.cromfordcanal.info/boat/boat.htm] website A chappy was telling me that it would cost them £300 a day for a horse so probably won't happen that often but if it does I will be there with my camera. Well worth a day out. The mills across the road have been given a lottery grant for restoration too and are also worth a look at. The building behind the boat has a small free exhibition of model railways and the cafe opposite was doing a roaring trade for a mid week. The food portions looked quite large.
  6. I somehow thought they were going to pull this by horse but turns out it has a hydraulic drive.
  7. We had a pleasant surprise today as we wandered along the Cromford (on foot).

  11. Is it normal to have to leave a door or window open whilst using an oven on a boat? ours is a Thetford Spinflo Caprice, its new and it gives off fumes and chokes us to use it.

  13. This year was much busier than last year, no doubt helped by the much better weather, and not having to compete with thousands of Jubilee events. Judging by the size of the show this year (I thought it was a lot smaller, and many people who've regularly been there were missing) I suspect quite a few traders had a bad time last year and decided not to come back. A shame, because the weather was fantastic and the footfall seemed pretty good. Certainly the traders I spoke to seemed to be doing quite well this year. There certainly was a lot less traders there which I think might cause numbers to shrink next year? I went this year for specific items and was a little disappointed that I have come away without them.
  14. Is that what I heard the fellow saying he could turn canal water into drinking water?

  16. Stuff we paid for: A Marco Brass Trumpet 12v Horn from Kingslock Chandlery (I've been wanting one of those for ages) Two Bath towels (we didn't really need but got talked into) A front cratch cover from Wilsons. Another tin of Le Tonkinois varnish and some magic potion to dull down the shine a bit. A jar of Brass mate. A bottle of Gel mate. Stuff we got for free: Wife won top prize in a raffle, a free trip through Dudley Tunnel for 2 adults and 2 children. A bit sun burnt and one or two nice piccies of the lovely Julia Bradbury.
  17. Gorgeous day at Crick boat show and saw the lovely Julia Bradbury what more can a man wish for.
  18. yeah me, I have given up trying. I use Internet Explorer 10 and thought it was that because it causes me no end of grief.
  19. One chem is a good cleaner, foams like crazy with as little as 5mm of solution in a bucket of water and is fish friendly? Bullet polish is amazing stuff for polishing and contains carnauba.
  20. Similar maybe but not so strict as you cannot have a drink on a boat that is moored eh?
  21. Don't you just hate it when that happens? I hope they all asked permission to cum aboard?
  22. I have been meaning to post ths now for a few weeks just to say what great service I received atshobnall boat services. I can thoroughly recommend the workshop and all of the friendly helpful people that I met there, oh and the great value cafe too.
