  1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400284462430?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Actually it is the Ipad and tray that is the wrong way around
  2. Firstly I thought of hanging from the ceiling? .............................then I thought of suction? .............................then I thought I would try suspending it? .............................but in the end I found one of these on ebay and I can watch all my downloads in comfort!
  3. The rail is now fitted and up and running. The heat from it is subtle and dries the towels quite nicely. Despite the low wattage the rail does get quite warm to the touch and thankfully lifts the temperature in the room after a few hours. as the rail arms swivel it has worked out quite nicely as the spring loaded linen cupboard door to the right of the rail is able to open.
  4. Thanks, useful information, and it looks like I am on the right track. I am by no means a confident electrician but I was thinking about concealing a fused spur near the base of the linen cupboard. There is a 3 pin plug attached on a short lead on the heater so I will have to cut that off. My main concern was linking to an existing power outlet I didn't want that to be unsafe? I wouldn't have given it a second thought had it been house wiring. What I think I will do as an interim is try a temporary installation just to see if the rail is any good or then post my observations on here in case anyone in the future decides to go down the same path.
  5. Here is the link http://www.heatthat.co.uk/heat-that/heat-that-towel-warmer-sv21.html#sthash.Po0sBSQC.dpuf to the towel rail. They also have an ebay shop. Thanks for all the replies, the area to the right of the sink is where I plan to site the rail. What is outside of camera shot is a tilt opening for a linen cupboard/basket. I would have to lose the opening or have to redesign the cupboard to fix a conventional towel rail in the area I planned. This I am reluctant to do as I quite like the feature. The towel rail is ideal because it will swivel out of the way when I open the cupboard. I just need to consider the electrics now the nearest Power supply is in that saloon area about a metre and a half away. If I am able to thread a cable into the bathroom and spur from that socket I take it I wouldn't be breaking any electricity safety rules would I?
  6. Thanks for the response and totally agree with your comments but the bathroom is like being in the Baltic during the winter months and if it lifts the temperature just a tad then that will be of some comfort. I have plugged the rail directly into a mains socket and it heats up at a reasonable rate. It is quite warm to the touch but not enough to fetch my skin off, the output is described as 'Energy efficient' I thought that would be good if I ran it off the inverter at some point.
  7. Any chance you can recommend the external aerial as I am looking for one suitable for the E5776?
  8. I have been looking for ways to add a little heat to the bathroom in my narrow boat and I was all set for tapping into the existing Webasto heating system, extending the pipework and installing a towel rail when I realised I had issues with a cupboard opening that prohibited me from placing the rail in the only available free space. I spent a few weeks looking for alternative solutions when I stumbled across a low wattage dry heated solution. As I spend most of the time on shoreline power I splashed the cash and thought I would give one of these a go? As it has a swivel motion I can simply manoeuvre the pipe work out of the way of the cupboard opening and problem solved. I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advise regarding spuring the wiring from my nearest 230v outlet to the rail can anyone foreseeable any other issues having a mains operated towel rail installation that I may have overlooked? Incidentally the unit is only 45W
  9. Thank goodness my boat should pass with flying colours then as we have one above the bed, one above the sofa and one above the dinette.
  10. We don't have any fairleads on the roof of our boat and it has been suggested that we should get some to avoid paint damage caused by the centre ropes. I have been to the Midland Swindlers and although they have quite a selection of styles and types they don't appear to be particularly knowledgeable when it comes to fixings. I need brass fittings to be in keeping with the rest of the boat but have been told to avoid brass screws with the material being so soft. Any tips/advice would be gratefully received.
  11. Hi can anyone tell me if the mushrooms have to be a certain height in order to vent correctly? We have one that is annoyingly above our bed and when it rains our mattress gets a little wet. can I just screw them down a little and can I also fill the gap with some filter type material to keep the spiders out or will it fail its BSS?
  12. Ours is a very simple boat but is quite modern. We looked at loads of styles from traditional to modern before we bought the boat. In the end it was just a case of walking through the door and sensing a feeling that this is the one, a bit like buying houses I think?
  13. You may be right but I cannot see any sign of a boss in the middle of the tank. The hole in the top feels like it is threaded. I might have to peel away some of the foam for a closer look but you have to be a contortionist to get to the tank.
  14. yes, but my life is far from simple. I accept that last year I made a mistake. I picked up the boat in December but the licence was started in November and the reminder should have gone out in October but didn't. Without reaping this all up again ( I know I started it) just put yourself in my shoes for one moment. I have to balance a manic work life, a short but hectic home life and I unfortunately don't get to visit my boat as often as I would like so reminders for me are a necessity.
  15. please don't take this the wrong way but lets hope for consistencies sake that C&RT don't offer you the discount. I was refused last year when I should have noticed that my boat Licence was on the verge of expiry and that you too get a barrage of replies reminding you of how its "your responsibility to ensure your boat is fully licensed". Yes I am being sarcastic, Yes I am still smarting that I wasn't reminded last year and Yes it still goes to prove that nearly a year on all the electronic reminders that C&RT promised would be in place to stop this sort of thing happening again are not in place. http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=62553&hl=
  16. without peeling off the insulation from around the tank can anyone tell me if what appears to be a small bung between the pipework is the entry point for an electric immersion element please? one end tother
  17. sorry I am not up on my Volvo's but it was you I saw. You were behind us as we were just having lunch back at the car and wondering whether we should leave early as a few vehicles in front of you were getting rather bogged down?
  18. Is this the throaty v40 I heard and saw get stuck on the way out on Sunday?
  19. Hi all I spotted this post hoping I might find some help in identifying if I am able to install an immersion heater for the calorifier I have fitted in my boat . If any eagle eyed person could advise from the pictures below I would be grateful
  20. I am really pleased it is free now as an app but I have far more functionality on my ipad than on my iPhone?
  21. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  22. No, flatly refused to although I can follow the escalation process and complain to higher management if I want to? If I chose to, perhaps they will give me a formal response by post then it can get lost again? I wonder also if people would be less sarcastic and more empathetic if C&RT had the capabilities of impounding and crushing my boat like they would an unlicensed, uninsured car? At least I get a reminder for both of these. Thanks to Black Rose BTW for your words of wisdom.
  23. Funny ..............but anyway I had a response today from C&RT and here is an extract that some of you may be interested in? "We encourage boaters to keep their renewal date in mind, and to contact us in plenty of time if they do not hear from us for any reason – licence fees (and other information) are available at any time from our Customer Service team. We are also working on an improved online system, which will allow boaters to do much more over the internet, such as view their previous and upcoming renewals, purchase licences and update their details. As you will imagine, this is a large project which has been a considerable time in planning and development, but we now hope to begin implementing some aspects of this in the New Year. Therefore, at the time of your next renewal you should see a much-improved facility available to you".
  24. Thanks for all the replies guys I enjoyed reading all of the varied responses. I do agree that I am ultimately responsible for the licencing of the boat (as the C&RT email I received this evening was quick to point out) but I was led to believe that not only had the renewal notice been sent to me but also a subsequent reminder. One lost letter I can accept but two The licence did indeed expire at the end of November but we are only two weeks into December and C&RT are a relatively new organisation. I didn't have any issues last year when it was BW nor the year before that when they were quick to start my licence before I even had purchased the boat. That aside, I telephoned them this morning and was quick to hand over my credit card details (at additional expense I might add) as I am not the sort of person that likes to owe anyone money and always pay my bills promptly. Perhaps I should have been awkward, got my monies worth and asked them to set up a monthly Direct Debit instead?
