  2. We are remodelling our kitchen and have bought a shoreline 12v fridge/ freezer, we were very lucky to bid and win it on eBay,it was bought for use in a beach hut but never used, it cost us £300. We were going to get another 240 one but just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
  3. We had a Kipor IG3000, great generator but very heavy and took up too much room in the back cabin, we sold it and will be getting a smaller one, sticking with Kipor as we were very pleased with it.
  4. We love living on our boat, when we lived in our house, we could not wait to get on the boat ( at the time I worked four days on,four days off) the four days off were spent on the boat, and we were always reluctant to go home to the house. When OH dissolved his company we made the decision to make a new start, sold the house, moved on to the boat full time and have not regretted it for one second.
  5. It is horrible that in this sad sorry world we live in, nothing is safe anymore. When we go up on the cut for our break we do not leave our boat unattended in remote places. On our break last year, we moored at Yelvertoft and were visited by the local police who were looking for a person who had broken into three boats in a matter of two weeks along a short length of towpath( between the three bridges which all have roads ) We had not seen anything untoward, but it did make us nervous. We went on to Market Harborough and stayed at the VM so were happy to leave the boat while we went into town. When we go up on the cut this year I will not be working for the six weeks, so that we can at least relax and not worry about leaving the boat unattended in remote areas or any dodgy looking places. One year on a trip to Banbury from Rugby, we passed two boats that had been broken into, we informed CRT ( was then BW) who said they would inform the owners. Unfortunately these kind of things happen and can only hope the victims do not suffer too much damage or loss.
  6. Hopefully on its way to Thrapston!! I walked the dogs to higham lock yesterday, didn't see it then, We had offered to drop some camping gear off to him as we felt sorry for him, but by the time we got to Wellingborough and the amount of texts, that gesture went out of the window.. When we go up on the cut, we plan to leave our mooring at first light so hopefully will be up on the cut by the end of day 1 and hopefully miss him. Can understand how they feel uncomfortable, we certainly will be wary of him now.
  7. We will help anyone in need.we gave him £70 and was hoping that he would spend it wisely, what he spent it on is his business, but he kept text me, first with jokes, then asking for help, when I text back to say that we did not expect to keep in touch on a personal basis and that we exchanged numbers so that we could get him to help us up the locks in the spring. He started getting nasty and threatening violence ( as he likes a drink I know people with a drink problem can turn) I asked him not to text anymore, he then started saying he was going to kill himself. I ignored his texts The last text he said he was in hospital with a heart attack, which I assume was not true. My friend and I were upset at his texts as he was so pleasant on the flight down. I got a text just before Xmas quite out of the blue from him asking how we were, I ignored it. Once bitten twice shy ....
  8. He told us the same last May, I wish I had been as sensible as you and not given him any money, and we gave him a windlass too :-)

  10. Yes that is the same one, he did a good job taking us down, however I made the big mistake of giving him my phone number... Won't go into details, just crossing fingers we don't see him on our way up to the cut in the spring...
  11. Must be another one doing this, we were locked down the Rothersthorpe flight by a Leon who was/ is a homeless person and "likes" a drink
  12. River here at Ditchford has risen sharply overnight and yes red flag up again
  13. We saw a narrow boat go through Ditchford lock this afternoon, hopefully the first of many, quite miss the cheery waves and taking photos of the different boats going along the river
  14. Good afternoon can anyone recommend a gas cooker fitter please, the new one is being repositioned slightly, thank you ILMN,
  15. How very sad, this is the chap we used to talk to in Banbury. My condolences to his family.
  16. We love it here on the River Nene, have a great mooring spot where no cars go passed, only shop is the Farm Shop owned by our landlord and provides fresh veg, eggs coal, wood etc. quiet and peaceful, there are only 3 boats in our corner and one pending arrival. It floods but does not cause that much trouble, we were flooded heavily 2012 and needed our row boat to get to the car park, we lost some plants, nothing compared to all the people who lost their homes in the floods. The only downside is the numerous locks to navigate to get to the canal for our holiday.
  17. Stealing bags of coal!!!!! Jeez the brass neck of some scumbags.. I can top that though :-) I had 2 bags of John Innes horse manure stolen out of my garden when we lived on land :-) . I was gobsmacked, I would have given it to them if they were that desperate .
  18. I remember as a child a visitor to our house brought along his ferrets, he was trying to get us three children to stroke them.... " look "" he says " they are really tame" and promptly kisses it.... And oh yes the little creature grabbed onto his bottom lip and was not letting go... We three children running round the front room screaming at the sight of this grown man with a ferret stuck on his lip and blood everywhere.. Still makes me laugh my socks off now.. I still say to this day... Drink and ferrets do not go together .. People seem to find bravado when they have had a few :-)
  19. :-) Thank you xx I just hope I never get senile dementia and forget my boy, have to hold on to all the wonderful memories that I have xx
  20. Think you Stewart people have been so kind, I talk to him every day while walking my dogs and I say to him " for once Carl mum does have the last word " makes me smile and brightens my dark days :-( xx
