  1. With all the talk of bonuses, whether you think they are a good idea or not, & pensions tax free or not, lump sums etc... it's kind of not relevant. An e-petition needs to make 100,000 signiatures in 3 months, if it achieves this then the government MAY decide to look into it, but they dont have to. More likely if it doesnt get the required number in the target time they most definitely wont look into it. I thought I read somewhere there are 35,000 people living on the canals, so even if everyone signs it, it isnt going to get the required number of signiatures... However with all of that said, maybe I'm missing the point completely, but I was under the impression that this is about the directors bonus... The renumeration board took the decision that the directors must not be paid a bonus, but apparently the directors have paid themselves a bonus anyway & surely that is wrong (along with them breaking the law by ignoring FOI requests on the same subject)
  2. Congratulations. I am so jealous. Looks like we joined this forum around the same time. Just when I thought I had got my money sorted out everything went boobies up. I now have no idea if I'm even going to get any of my money, let alone enough for a boat. But like I said, congratualtions, very pleased for you.
  3. I use Sky ISP, but I'm pretty sure I changed the DNS, unfortunately I'm a bit drunk atm & cant remember who I use & cba to look it up
  4. Well if it helps... No I'm not a horse... (perhaps summat else ending in the same 3 letters) I did get expelled from 1 boarding school for smoking in school holidays (so not fair) & I got expelled from another 1 when I got caught sneaking back in after going to a gig, cant remember who, but I was on a final warning after getting caught sneaking back in after going to see the Clash at Brixton Academy aged 15 1 Christmas 1984 (which got me a years detention)... I was the coolest kid in school for that
  5. I must admit I do the same on bikes, I'll nod to other bikers, even when they are on L plates on some crappy little 50cc motorbike, but not to Scooters & mopeds.
  6. Lol thanks, actually I was thinking I would probably lose the amp, seeing as it's a bit big, the speakers are even bigger, I dread to think how much electric it would use, & I rarely use it... usually when I come in drunk & crank up the volume (just to point out I live in a big old mansion house in the middle of the park so I'm not disturbing anyone). Most of the time my music comes from my computer speakers which cant go very loud at all.
  7. New marina in the centre of town Northampton Beckets Park, has pleny of moorings. I think I got the last residential, but am waiting for paperwork. They do 11 month moorings but any time away counts... so going off at weekends, soon adds up to 1 month a year
  8. Wow, as an outsider reading this it seems lots of you boat peeps are just as horrible as any other walk of life, despite hearing about how friendly everyone is. What I got from this thread, the OP wasnt happy that said boat club took over all the moorings despite them being 1st come 1st serve... as long as you are 1 of them & if you are not 1 of them then 1st come 1st serve doesnt count. Then a member of said boat club seemed to be a bit embarrassed by the behaviour of said boat club, but not being an official couldnt really comment. Then someone else (anything to do with the club? certainly reads as tho he/she is)came on saying blah blah you dont like it jog on, its 1st come 1st serve, we got there 1st so you cant park there even tho there is enough room to do so, we can break the rules you cant... Then "bit embarrased" blokey came back on giving it rah rah we can do it you cant... perhaps had a ticking off from the club for not being aggresive enough? & as for the other chap who mentioned about having his boat untied if he didnt move (yes I realise nothing to do with this) well that would be like a red rag to a bull for me, as in go on try it & see what happens. I succesfully ran a bike club for over 10 years (Vice Chairman... official pompous title), whe didnt have a problem with anyone. When the Hells Angels moved into the area & shut all the other clubs down, we was "asked" to do the same & then for some reason we was allowed to carry on as before, then when the Outlaws tried to move into the nearby area, other nearby clubs were also shut down or given the opportunity to join them, once again we were left alone. I would suggest that anyone running a 'respectful' club of any sort (after all I assume you're presumably not a bunch of council estate chavs competing over postcodes) would do well to think about this NCCC - National Chronic Constipation Club?
  9. I forgot to add, cant wait to go cruising down the river with my 400W amp blasting out "get yer motor running" (to drown out the sound of the engine)... ok not the last bit, it would probably be my phone with headphones... but I would also have a suitably placed & sized (respectful) tribute to my Dad painted from a photo of his face, & properly traditional style (imo) registered at my home mooring with the registration number. Edit. & magnetic L plates both sides front & back.
  10. Funny thread. I guess I might upset the OP when (if) I ever manage to get my boat. Being a biker & an aging punk rocker, & according to others virtually no taste, I intend to have this image on the side where you would have 1 of those fake carrying co things surrounded by traditional-style boxes around the edge, as well as Harley Davidson-style go-faster-flames starting at the front & going along the length, as well as some (fake) 1970s style high rise chopper motorbike exhausts on a cruiser stern (acting as supports for where you would sit) & with various skulls on the inside of side hatches (instead of the pretyy flowers n stuff)
  11. LOOL, Ive been riding bikes for over 15 years... & wrote a bike off every year (always in February) for the 1st 10 years. So I guess from that, if I ever get my boat, I'll probably be falling in every year for god knows how long... I just hope all the bits of metal holding me together don't weigh me down too much when I do fall in! 1 of my bike vids
  12. Just found this on the Environmental Agency website (it's only just gone up) http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/boating/132472.aspx
  13. I didnt mean to confuse anyone. This is a brand new marina (not quite finished) in the centre of town (Northampton Becketts Park), built by 1.Northampton Borough Council 2.WNDC West Northampton Developement Council (a government quango) 3.Environment Agency & it is being run by the EA. There are 80 moorings in total. They have a residential mooring which allows you to live there on your boat permanently all year. They have 6 of these. for a 57 foot boat it is £2300 per year + council tax (a one sixth share of a band A house) & I get an address can vote, doctors, etc... Then they have a bunch of visitor moorings. Then they have the "permanent" moorings, maybe they have a different name. These your boat can stay there all year, but you cant live on it all year, but you can live on it for a bit, in fact quite a bit & they have no rules about consecutive nights. You have to be not living on your boat there for 1 month a year (which they said any time away counts, they said weekends away count towards the 1 month - their rules). For a 57 foot boat this is £1685 & no council tax, no address. (A caravan park nothing to do with the above, a few miles down the river & also has a marina, lets you stay as long as you want, but you have to be not there for 1 month a year, but they close the park for this... so even if you hadnt been there for 11 months, if its the month they close tough luck!)
  14. I think you are misunderstanding. The residential mooring doesnt require you to be away, but the permanent mooring does require you to be away... 2 different moorings.
  15. Well the good news is, the EA got in touch with me, it seems 1 of my messages made it through to the right person. They had 1 resi mooring left. I get the impression I have booked it, will have to wait for the paperwork to arrive, & by charging for my zero length boat seeing as I dont have 1 yet, it has only cost me £6.30 until end of March, or until I get a boat. But the better news is, for their permanent moorings, they only require you to be away for 1 month a year, & that is done cumulatively, in other words I can go off Friday & Saturday nights & that counts towards my time away... So I'm now pulling out all the stops to actually get a boat. The tenant is in for a shock when an eviction letter drops through her door... serves her right for not paying her rent
  16. I cannot say for your area. However I use a 3 dongle, I currently live in a house, my dongle is 3.6 Mbps & I rarely get above dial-up speeds (0.56 Mbps). If I go to the pub (1 mile away) I get about 3 Mbps. My GF has a 7.2 Mbps dongle from the same place & gets the same speeds as me. By their (3) own admisson most people will get about 1.1 Mbps... along the 17 locks into Northampton on the GUC there is an area where I get no reception, close to a village, yet there is also an area where I get good reception in the middle of no where. 3 dongle claim to have the best mobile broadband dongle network thingy, & although I have never used any other networks dongle, from the people I have spoken to, their claim is probably correct (IMO). I would also think that if they were lying then their competitors would have something to say about it Edit. I am not trying to promote 3, I think they are rubbish, but I also get the impression other networks are more rubbish. The Marina I am trying to get into claims to have wifi, but I cannot detect a wifi signal there, & my laptop is good at getting wifi signals. PAYG is £10 for 1Gb & lasts 30 days
  17. FCUK them... I guess I cant say that... but seriously at work & at college, means they are old enough. I love my kids but they can find their own life. My parents kicked me out when I was 17 (cuz I got expelled from boarding school) & it never did me any harm. I have been a high flyer at Prada, a traffic warden, & on the dole, & a world tour on a motorbike (lasted 1 year & which means Scotland, France, & 2 weeks in the USA. had to ring my dad to borrow air fare home when I ran out of money!)
  18. Thanks for that. I just wish the EA would actually answer me instead of keep sending me auto replies & phone numbers that say "This line is now closed", or giving me dead links. The marina I wan to get a spot in is gradually filling up with more & more boats, the office isnt open as they havent finished building it yet, & I havent managed to speak to a single boater (is that the correct term?) who has actually got a boat there.
  19. My GF uses these, she's a cleaner at the local hospital, & in my opinion it does a perfectly good job on collars 'n cuffs (which are white). Certainly some food stains didnt come out, more importantly grease from food... but with that said I think they are supposed to be used in a hot wash, but my washing machine runs from a cold water supply only, & the heater element hasnt worked for years. She is perfectly happy with the results & doesnt buy detergent any more. All my clothes are black & I dont get that dirty, & I still use detergent! It is my opinion that they are perfectly good enough for "light soil", but if you get really mucky, oil & grease etc, then use detergent.
  20. 1st post for me. I'm thinking of getting a narrowboat to live on. Getting a residential mooring seems to be a hassle. There is only 1 place suitable for me, & that is in a new marina close to where I work, but the office isnt open yet (as it's not built). I went on a guided tour of the place, but their leaflet giving website address, e-mail & telephone contacts was no good. At the moment they remain uncontactable, so I dont even know if they have any residential berths left (they have 6 residential in total of which I think 3 are definately gone)& 80 moorings in total. Anyway I was wondering if I would be allowed to get a permanent mooring, as well as travel. A friend used to live on a caravan park. For 1 month a year he had to leave as it wasnt residential, so he would stay with me for that 1 month. then he would be back in his caravan. Presumably the same thing applies to the permanent mooring, in that I cant live there due to planning permission (it not being residential)& would need to vacate for 1 month a year. I know the boat could be moored there permanently if I'm not living on it. But if I was to travel each weekend, so Friday night after work, chug up the river a bit perhaps travel Saturday, & return to the Marin Sunday night. Also go off on a trip when me & the GF get a week or 2 together... hopefully adding up to 1 month away from the marina. The Marina itself I think is run by EA, but I cannot seem to provoke a response from them in any way. I personally would be happy to moor for 2 weeks in 1 place (central to work) then 2 weeks time move to point B 6 miles away, then 2 weeks later move to point C 6 miles in the other direction, then 2 weeks later back to the original point A. But obviously some peeps wouldnt like this & would see it as not CCing & also trying shirk paying my way. I dont particularly want a residential mooring, but I do want secure mooring for while I'm at work away from the boat, hencce thinking of getting a permanent mooring at the new Marina. I just wondered if those of you who do live on a boat think this is even doable?
